In addition to the maker we also photographed the only remaining building from that era. The area has mostly returned to forest now. Florida has many small towns still entact that can be enjoyed to this day. It's a deep tragedy for the entire state that this place was obliterated by racist mob violence.
The fact that there was a story like this in the Stephen King novel "IT" and then they took it out of the movie version really pisses me off (along with the fact that they pretty much relegated Mike to a background character). This is why reparations must be paid. No “minority” group has been treated this way, yet the others are quick to flaunt how easily they establish their communities and prosper. In fact, that only fuels the claim for reparations further. When Black Americans did attempt to prosper, their communities were burned out of hatred and spite. There are many here in Florida. Trust me. There are places you just dont go to day or night. You pass right on through & keep going. 💯
So why don't they want the population to know about these horrible atrocities..
Tuskegee, Black wall street, and the list goes on and on. Why are they so afraid of the past....
Because this history will show the whole world who the real criminals are and that racism is alive and well and has always been
Ego. Illusion. Comfort.
My wife and I visited and photographed the Historic Marker at Rosewood last year on our way to Cedar Key. Our photos are on Google Maps.
It definitely added to the horror that was always baked into the existence of the town, that it was a place that was always haunted by evil. Why you would remove horror from a horror movie makes zero sense to me.
Wow! Thanks for informing us as I love the 'It' movie. I'll check with my daughter as she had read the original book.
Cuz that kind of horror was real

This is why reparations must be paid. No “minority” group has been treated this way, yet the others are quick to flaunt how easily they establish their communities and prosper. In fact, that only fuels the claim for reparations further. When Black Americans did attempt to prosper, their communities were burned out of hatred and spite. No white mobs burned down Chinatown, Little El Salvador, or Filipinotown. They exclusively targeted Black neighborhoods, and through hyper-policing, redlining, and home devaluation, they still do.

“The truth will set us free,” said Sonia Johnson, “but first it will make us miserable”. Hopefully, this adds context to understanding generational poverty in the black community. It's never been about the lack of initiative, lack of imagination, lack of a good work ethic, or the lack of a desire to build. Further disservice is done by not acknowledging the psychological trauma visited upon the community stemming from centuries of sanctioned domestic terror and shameless scapegoating.

I think Black Americans who refuse to tell those stories are doing a disservice not only to their descendants but also to America as well as the world. Black American elders seem to bear a lot of shame for what happened to them or their parents back in those days but they shouldn't. Reparations for the descendants of the Black people who survived this horrific massacre and racial injustice and for the descendants of the Black people who didn't survive are long overdue. What happened to Rosewood happened to many Black towns and communities across the U.S. post-slavery. The government on all levels (federal, state, and local) failed to protect those Black towns and communities and failed to compensate them immediately following these horrific massacres and racial injustices to help them rebuild was only because the people adversely impacted were Black.

Blaming the patriarchy is shortsighted. Rightfully pointing the finger at white supremacy is technically correct because white women were just as complicity
in perpetuating inequality for nonWhites and specifically targeting Black men and women for injustice and racial violence
And capitalism. Capitalism was the reason why they needed slaves.
