Nah, operating heavy equipment is all about dexterity. Women are more dexterous than men. The guys who told you that are gumpy old fossils who will be gone in the coming years. I know a few female mining equipment operators and they're on the same level as male operators.
Biggest tip is roll blade full forward and as your coming to the end of your row begin to feather the blade by rowing the blade up and as it comes to full up you should be out of material and ready to back up. Only use that for when your moving small amounts of material. Also jamming both joysticks full forward puts the blade in float. Good way to put the blade down when parking and not lifting the machine having a constant load on the hydraulics
Best way to look at it is 'a finishing dozer' with a LOT of extra blade controls (and better viewpoint)...at least, with the new ones. Old ones still had more adjustments...but I don't really think the viewports were any better (especially when you had to have as spotter just to guide and direct you)... Good intro...LOT of experience required...and it's really easiest if you come 'off the seat of a dozer' (as a career) to start working graders...cuts the 'learn time' way down (versus being an excavator or roller or loader operator, first).

Hi, Folks. Wotta LOTTA people will never tell you about graders 'cos they have never 'figgered' it out for themselves is that graders work on the law of the lever. If one front wheel runs over a rock or a bump a foot high, by the time that movement gets to the center of the front axle, it is reduced to 6 inches. By the time it gets back to the blade, 1/2-way to the rear of the machine, the movement is only 3 inches - even if you don't touch the controls. Come back and make another pass in that same track, the movement over the remaining bumps will be halved twice again, leaving you with a bump maybe 3/4 of an inch high. Let the machine do what it was designed and built to do and do what you can to help it do that. The REAL art of operating a grader is being able to set your blade to take the material from where it needs to be taken to where it needs to be placed in the condition that it needs to be in - moisture content, etc. - in the least possible number of passes. There is a lot of skill and experience needed to be able to now how to handle all the different types of materials that will be encountered as well. I grew up in Central NY and knew Diane Ruston, the daughter of the wealthy family the owned the company, along w/ their fantastical 25 acre lake-front estate on Syracuse-area Skaneateles Lake, “LakeLand”… Diane was a beautiful blonde young lady and a group of us all attended Syracuse University, back in the mid-80s. You said and its agreed that everything takes practice, but as a new operator, what is your advice on getting better at a motor grader getting on your first job site.
that's a tough one....I have very little stick time on a motor grader but know that they are the toughest machine to master. As with anything I'm the biggest proponent of just stick time...it's the best way to learn. Otherwise, find a seasoned motor grader vet and see if they will teach you any tips/tricks!
everybody always says the grader is the hardest to master and its true but not because of the actual piece of equipment its because of the operator. First you need to have patience final grading is a very slow and precise task you cannot rush otherwise youll fuck up the grade completely, and thats the second thing is actually knowing your grade knowing how things are supposed to look and transition.
@@alexthomas4329 it is also patience with the team from tippers to water carts to rollers. As a grader operator you are the be all and end all it is your name put on the job,so not only are you to operate the most crucial machine but you are the co-ordinator of all other machines on site.
I am not an expert nor am I experienced however I will say that the number one mistake operators make is making contact between the tandems and the heel of the blade.
It's easy to do if you're not careful and mindful of where that blade is when you're articulating your turn, swinging the blade from your last pass and sliding the board to get set for the next one at once. I always stay mindful of where the blade is when I'm moving it, though also keeping an eye out for any hazards, especially while turning around after a pass. When I was still very new to the Cat 140M3, I had a guy in a Cat 420F TLB who kept zooming up right in front of me to dump into the material pile as I was turning around and getting configured to take a bite out of the pile. He thought that I'd definitely see him, and while I did see him, him suddenly backing up or turning close caused me to slam on the brakes more than once that shift. We had words about it during lunch time, and worked it out. He didn't do that again after.

I like seeing a cat in blue color
First check fluids and machine before operating
Learning how to operate a leeboy and Nor am 65e finishing small parking lots
Isn't the clutch called the inching pedal??
Yes...I have heard it called that as well. Thanks for the comment!
It is an inching pedal. Not a clutch. No need to press to stop, shift, or even shift from forward to reverse.
beat me to it
Another name for it in some CAT manuals is "transmission modulator."
Thanks for sharing another great vid
You’re welcome...thanks for the comment!
Yep, I need one
Agreed
Wtf!? Why this cat blue?

Can you do a video on a gradall operation
Never been in one, but I’ll see if we can find one.
Would like to see a seasoned grader pro give some video lessons
Thanks for amizing video...kp it up
I see a lot of graders in my area ploughing snow I was to say to myself I want to buy one and get contracts to plough snow in the winter and then drive it from place to place where they need me
I am an operator for Front End loader and Excavator but want to upgrade myself to the Motor Grader.
Am looking for that in my life where can I find you ,
You said and its agreed that everything takes practice, but as a new operator, what is your advice on getting better at a motor grader getting on your first job site.
that's a tough one....I have very little stick time on a motor grader but know that they are the toughest machine to master.
When is the 201 coming out?? Great video for young ones like myself.
You are an operator too ? Hello !
thanks guys for these amazing videos. keep it up.
Love my 160m. Funny they call the clutch pedal the inching pedal
8F 6R for gears
I am not an expert nor am I experienced however I will say that the number one mistake operators make is making contact between the tandems and the heel of the blade.
Thanks for the comment!
@@Jamesbrown-xi5ih Safety comes first.
@@adelarsen9776 I agree. That's why I shared the story about the TLB cutting off my Grader and how we resolved it.

Hello
I'm a big fan.
Can I ask you a question?
Can you find me a jop in Saudi Arabia?
. thanks for everything
Tevery first thing you said was three points of contact; Then youlet go with both hands when climbing up into the cab, Tut, Tut. Tut.
why do you fire up the machine without letting it start the systems? you are supposed to let the system fire up and then check for errors if there are non start the machine.
This great machine has a lot of functionality.. hopefully I could own one for funny purposes
