The numbers were adjusted so cannons do more consistent damage over their range. Practically then means less lethal at close range than they were, but much more effective at longer ranges than they were. The rules are included in the rule book in the starter set and they’re available for free download at Firelock’s website.

This scenario is in the Raise the Black expansion and you will need the core rulebook to get started. So, yes, I guess so!
