This video was recorded with High-definition. Use the Settings "gear" in the bottom right hand corner of the video to change the quality to 1080p for the best video quality. Remember, this suturing technique is not great for lacerations or incision that are under tension. The skin edges should already be well approximated before you start this stitch. I used the tension base in the video for instructional purposes only- So you could see what I was doing a little easier.

Thank you for all of your work here. I’m not a Health Care Professional but I am a surgical sales representative and these videos are very helpful in learning theatre techniques which help me to better understand how my products can help. I work for a company who is very focused on quality patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. Your videos are simply excellent.
Wishing you all the best for 2020 and beyond.

Where can I get this silicon suturing model?
*Remembers this for when I’m on a stranded island with someone who has a cut*
Funny thing, I just wrecked on a same island and happen to have my ER-sewing kit with me! PHEW, what a relief!

You cant use that technique though as it would be very unlikely you would have stitching thread that melts. So you would have to do it the most common technique.
only reason why I watched it!
Im watching this like I’m an actual surgeon or something....I haven’t even graduated from high school yet :/ y’all wish me luck because I lowkey want to become a surgical technician
EDIT: a year later and I just got into the surgical program!!! I REALLY MADE IT😭

I just imagine a surgeon sitting on the floor in the corner of the theater YouTubing how to close up their patient..
I'm a medical student and i love these videos 😂
imagine waking up mid surgery cause the anesthesia has worn off because he's only 1/2 way through the video.
if one has such a large cut, would adrenaline make it painless to sew within 5 minutes or how long after it wouldn't be numb any more ?
@@Choice777 I dont know. I'm a hairstylist. 😂😂
@@Choice777 what if that particular person is just so calm and it doesn't numb him
not gonna lie....im using thins video to sew my mattress ......
MaggieWongg love it, im watching because ive watched to much walking dead lol and i now value survival skills 😜
MaggieWongg -too funny but it should work! Get some fabric glue too, so that the top edge will stay approximated and not rip open.
Please tell me when u reap mattresses would love some pic
I'd recommend a mattress stitch for that instead.
Bahahahaha
My dad is a surgeon, he is already retired but I saw him do this once because of a family emergency and it was amazing, but he was working quite fast so I didn’t get to appreciate the technique. I’m loving this.
I was always the “nurse” because growing with a very passionate doctor is quite interesting and fear of blood or gore is not something you develop.
@L F o.0
@L F What’s the logic behind that? 🤔
I think you made your POINT. Subcutaneous sutures are KNOT as easy as people think. Kill me.
Haha, love the play on words! :)
You're killing me with the puns. I'm in stitches!
Al P could you explain the joke? I'm sew lost
I might burst a seam.
hahaha good one
Ive watched about 5 other videos on subcuticular running sutures and could not figure out the anchoring suture. Thank you for clearly explaining and showing how its done! The only video I've been able to find that clearly shows and explains the technique with a material that I can actually see
Of all the suture demos on youtube, yours is the most comprehensive!!
thankyou :) 👍
Thanks for the comment!
This was a very comprehensive demo... but why was this in my recommended? I don't even want to pursue a medical course...Nonetheless! Great video though!
Same, haha! I was considering a medical career at one point but I wouldn’t be able to handle the needles and stuff lmao
I have no idea why it came up in your recommended (LOL), but thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed!

I am studying to become an SA...this is the best subcuticular tutorial I have watched. Thank you
Thank you!
Anybody remember when Dr.Yang was competing with chief while doing this is greys anatomy 😂😂
30+ years ago, I was a graphic designer in Atlanta and my biggest client was a vet, an exclusively feline practitioner. I had the privilege of watching several of the doctor’s surgeries and one in particular sticks in my mind. The cat had bladder surgery and when the vet closed the incision, he used this very type of suture. It impressed me because he could have closed the wound with a much simpler (and stronger) suture method. The wound would never be seen, yet he used this subcuticular running suture even though the cat’s fur would grow back and it would cover the scar. I suspect he might have been showing off a bit; nonetheless, I’ve always remembered that.
You could close the surface with tape butterfly strips if its a non-tension location. This was really good and clear. Thank you for sharing your expert knowledge!
manthasagittarius1 thanks for watching and commenting!
Can’t wait to cut my friend and try this on them!!
Happiest Chip I’m glad we’re not friends. No offense.

Lol!
Was watching Greys Anatomy clips then seen this video recommended to me. Lol this reminds me of when Christina was suturing a banana 😂
Well the YT algorithm really helped this guy out
I’m 14 and I can say that I’ve subcutaneously sutured my own dermal laceration on my leg. Great job me! (Yes it should have hurt but I’m on pain meds for CRPS so I felt nothing. ) I’m seeing my doc for a checkup tomorrow, and I am asking him how he thinks I did.
Edit: he literally asked me “who sutured this? I’ve never seen this style before but it’s really well done! I thought it was just a project from your makeup class” (I’m in a makeup class for school)
no one asked

Thanks for making these videos! Awesome as always, keep up the great work. I love the way you explain each step. Not overwhelming amounts of details but lots to think about!
I misread the title as “sculpture step by step tutorial or whatever” and half way through the video I realized this is about stitches lmao
Thank you so much for making this! May I ask...in an emergency situation where you are without a numbing cream, how painful would getting stitches be?
MusicSavedMyLife i Love how i found an army in this HIIII
Okay so this is grim but on the odd occasion self harm patients have been forced to get stitches without pain relief and on another note I once helped my Dad stitch his eyelid. It's definitely painful but the level of pain depends on where needs stitching, whether the person still has natural painkillers surging through them, and the skill of the person doing it, etc. You might get the shakes from the pain and if it wasn't done well the pain might be long lasting due to nerve damage, but you'd survive. The pain ranges from anywhere from a 5/10 to a 9/10 I would say. 10 being the worst pain you can imagine and 0 being no pain at all. Also in this video he's showing a relatively easy wound to stitch. So if you genuinely want to know for emergency situations check out everything you could possibly need to know about wounds and sutures including cleaning procedures and army and bushcraft medicine.
No painkillers? Simple use alcohol. A lot of alcohol until they are blacked out drunk
I imagine the wound itself to overshadow the little needle
Ive gotten them removed without that on my head and it hurt i screamed and shoved his hand away it was so intense
I don’t do anything in the medical field and I watched the entire video 🤷🏼♂️
This guy would make beautiful reappoloster furniture possibly heavy canvas sewing

Exciting and dangerous is in my blood... hehe. My whole family is in medical field, different levels. Nurse, doctor, vet, and rescuer (paramedic)..
Where did you get that model from? Been using pig paws my whole life hehe
I've done pig feet as well, but this model is nice because it doesn't go bad. :) This is the SurgiReal suturing trainer. I have no financial relationships with the company but do use it with my students. It's a great trainer. www.surgireal.com/our-products/suture-training/
Daniel V you use what now?!
I learned something new today. Thank you.
I had a whole bunch of destiny videos and asmr videos on my recommended and then out of nowhere this was on it.
Doctor in Egypt the medicine students use a sloughted animal feet ( cows , buffalos, camil and even porks ) to start training on it and it really work
That's a tough one. I would be sweating bullets 😓😓😓
It's a little more technical than other techniques, that's for sure! But with practice, it's doable and can become a favorite for certain lacerations/incisions. Find yourself a good practice model like the one I use to teach and then just practice. :)
MiniMedLectures thanks for the advice! Will do.
Wow I love this video thank you for posting this
Thanks!
I have no reason to watch it but I CAN'T STOP
How do you get the anchor out during removal if the skin has sealed up and healed up around it?
This suture technique is only used with absorbable suture, such as Monocryl. So they dissolve over several weeks rather than getting removed.
Suburban Preparedness well my question is answered

Does this apply to all types of deep cuts?
I'm a highschooler and I've seen many stitching cases including one on my own foot 😂 and always wanted to know more for survival. Never know when your foot might get ripped open again someday right?
This is the suture I think the dr used on my open heart surgery and it looked just like your model except they used glue as well. Which was extra fun cuz I'm allergic to adhesives. My scar itches all the time and considering it's been over 2 years now it's probably not the healing itch yay mcas 😑.
excellent.. thanks!
how did you make the suture pad? or where did you buy it from? thanks!

You should see the scars on my head.
I tried to stich all them up as best as I could throughout the years.
Now , at my age, I'm into pulling my own teeth.
Getting really good at that too.
I felt all of this
In my mother's time medical doctors used to use dogs, pigs and mouses. Now you use synthetics. What happened?
(Granted I am 31, and my mom began medical school 9 years before I was born)
The synthetics are so much better than dead tissue these days!

I’m in nursing school 😂 Doubt that I’ll ever need this, but thanks UA-cam
Please, show me how to sutur episiotomy!!
thats cool- i used to anchor on the outside edges- which essentially creates an additional entrance. worked though and never had any scar problems- lol i was thinking the same thing about steri-strip
I’m going to practice this on my dog tonight.

Fantastic steeching

Wow this is so cool❤️
This model is commercially available or is made at the university specifically for academic purposes?
This model is available from SurgiReal and you can buy them online. I have not financial ties with the company, just a fan. :)

Thank you for sharing!❤️
Also please share the site or company name you are aware of, which makes such models for teaching students.
Like the IV boards and limbs or jugular models and phantom models for dystocia relieving in large animals.
Its better to understand and practice on a model and then get a hands-on on the animal, to minimize error
I use a technique similar to this to close holes in clothing 😂 Very interesting!
Buen video de alli es donde se preparan las personas que les interesa aprender.
So the thread that you use it stays in the skin? Won't the skin heal over the thread? How does one take out the thread once the cut is completely healed?
Holy moley!!!!!! Moley moley moley.....
youtube recommendation wants me to be a doctor. should i take this as a sign? i am a biology graduate 😂
Can you do another video on subcuticular suture?
Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, I’m planning at least two more subcuticular suturing videos. In one, I plan to do running subcuticular like in this video, but then finish it with the Aberdeen knot. The other one will be about interrupted subcuticular sutures. How does that sound? Make sure you’re subscribed and have notifications on so you get notified when I post those!
In sewing and fiber arts this stich is called a matress stich. It litterly works the same. I feel like my value in the zombie apocalypse has increased 🤣
I broke my collarbone last month and it required a surgery. My doctor did a fantastic job and the stitches are not visible at all! I kept thinking how the heck did he do that. Suddenly youtube recommended this vid to me 😧
I clicked cause I thought it might be satisfying
Not sure how I ended up here as I'm not involved in healthcare in any way shape or form but I found this very interesting.
When I cut my thigh a year ago the doctors did this suture but my cut was wide. Now, I've got a big scar. Is there a reason why that happened?
Супер-клеем такие раны заклеиваю за две секунды)))
Now I’m further prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse!
I wonder why this was in my recommended today, I did watch the whole thing tho lol
I’m from the U.K. and all my sutures have been “dissolvable”. Had 33 knee ops, 1 on my spine and one on my belly. Only 1 set of arthroscopy sutures were not dissolvable.
can your incision grow over the stitches after there was some
swelling the first 3 days after the surgery? what will the Dr have to do
if that happens to remove the sutures?
Thanks. Now I can do my own suturing instead of getting a medical professional .
One question: in what case do you Stich through the epidermis ?
so your stitching the inside before you stitch the outside/skin?
very nice.
I definitely want to learn to sew
Where should we get that skin like thing to practice
This is a SurgiReal pad. www.surgireal.com. I have no financial connections to their company. :)
*Now I know what to do when the apocalypse start.*
This is going to sound really dumb, but I wish I had seen this before I stood on my head one summer working out how to make invisible seams on double-faced surfaces in my knitting.
Это нитки которые сами рассасываются???, т.к.нет узелков, которые снимают на 5-7дн.
Me on the way to the OR to take the surgeons job
Thanks for the great video! Question: What artificial skin device are you using in the video?
UA-cam needs to hire someone to suggest videos in the recommendations. so random!
Thank you .
Thanks sooo much
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I thought stitches had to be removed?? How do you remove the stitching if it's under the skin?
With techniques like this where we place the suture under the skin surface, we use dissolvable material. Most of these types of sutures dissolve through normal physiologic processes within 4-8 weeks. No stitch removal required! It's can't be done on some types of lacerations, however.
i dont know why the fuck this was in my recommended but im glad cuz im gonna study medicine
does that thread stay there for life?
Thanks for watching! It dissolves after several weeks, long after the skin has healed.
@@minimedlessons thx for the reply!
Thanks info
Thank you !
Good jobs ...
then how you close the skin? just use bandagge after tied like that or other methode for closing the skin?
Once we close the dermis using the subcuticular technique, it should be further secured with reinforcing steri strips glued down. Then a bandage over top.
What is that thing called? The skin he practices on
This one is a SurgiReal pad.
