Pastel chalks from an art supply store. Softer than blackboard chalk, and works very good.

What do you recommend to secure the wall to the track if I am using just a long piece of primed trim from Home Depot? There is no way to insert the wall between the pit lane track and the other straights on the main section.

You can use dabs of silicon caulk...

You can also add a few pins between the track and embed them into the wood.
