  • What an experience! Going down the Baja peninsula to race the famous Baja 1000, was amazing! Although faced with challenges every step of building the race car, we still managed to get down and across the starting line. I’m grateful for the friends I got to share this trip with and with you for watching!

It was fascinating to see the Baja1000 like that. No course markers, no closed roads. That is insane and I now understand why it is considered so grueling with deaths almost every race.
Great video Rudy. Thanks for letting us participate even for just 1 day.

We finished the 50th anniversary but dnf the next 2 races with overheating issues as well and cracked crank! There is the mint 400 that's in the states you guys should do if you want to get a shakedown of the jeep next time and then go back and conquer the Baja 1000!!!

Since you guys are based out of Utah check out the Bonneville Off-road series! It’s a desert racing series with most races in utah (wendover, knolls, and vernal) also with races in Nevada and western Colorado! It’s a small series that’s absolutely mint for getting seat time. I’ve raced it for years in a class one car and our jeepspeed unlimited truck(it’s how I learned the ropes when I first started). I think it would be great for your team! Keep up the great work and best of luck

I have to admit, when I saw this video was over an hour long, I was going to skip it. BUT.... Because I have always had a fascination with the Baja 1000 (and Paris Dakar Rally) I said lets see what this is about. Hands down your best video yet! I was hooked and would have watched another hour of it. Sorry you guys didn't even last one day but honestly, many new teams go through this. Now you know what to focus on to repair the Jeep. Get out and do some more local events. Fine tune it and get back out there next year with one goal... make it to the end. It doesn't make a difference where you wind up in placing or how many hours behind you are, just make it to the end. I look forward to seeing the future progress of this.

25 years ago me and a couple of friends built a dessert racer. Our primary concern was to eliminate as much electrical needs as possible. When all said and done, our truck had 27 individual pieces of wire. I used a Borg-Warner T-20 trans, with a 205 transfer. Rockwell axles with manual steering. This vid shows why I made every one of those choices. The truck still races today, it's had one more auxillary power system routed since then, for lighting and navigation.
I've always thought the KISS principal was the king when it comes to racing.
I can easily maintain 90 mph with my 400 horse power coming out of my normally aspirated small block chevy.
But hey, if you're into breaking down, use your modern stuff. I won't, I like finishing races.
    Have fun all.

    Bummer! Sucks about the overheating!
Loved the race footage! It's great to see authentic footage and not just highlights like everyone else. That grille looks awfully narrow for the amount of air it needs to flow. Hit up the editor of The Autopian, David Tracy. He was a cooling system engineer for Jeep in a previous life.

It's a shame you guys had so many issues out there. I'm sure it was a blast to participate in it regardless. What a dream come true! I hope you guys put that rig through some rigorous testing, go back out there, compete, and finish in a following year. Best of luck!

Too bad everyone didn’t get a turn at driving but I’m certain you learned a lot and will be stronger next year. Thanks for taking us along for the adventure .
