HUGOGamer 115 Welp, Logitech is out of the question, because their keyboards are trash. If you have the money, go for the Apex Pro because being able to adjust actuation makes it useful for typing and gaming alike. The Razer Huntsman TE is a good option if you can't spend $170 or more, but the light actuation means I suggest you have a backup keyboard and you only use the Huntsman TE for gaming, not typing
This has genuinely been the most helpful video I've seen since it's so simple and easy to understand for someone like me who's getting a mechanical keyboard for the first time. And also including those terms at the end was actually so helpful since I did not know a single thing about what they meant when looking online, thanks so much!
There are two main kinds of mx type clicky switches click jacket which tend to be more rattely switches and Click bar click bar having a sharper click that is both downstroke and upstroke
Very helpful video! They all sounded equally loud while listening to this at work. I'd like a cool keyboard for my new assignment but don't want to annoy my coworker neighbors. lol
Man, I wish I saw this video before buying one. The only reason why I bought a mechanical keyboard was for the clicky clacky sound. I bought the one with red switches.

Great vid.. thx.. I'm trying to locate a nice usb 3.0 keyboard with at least 2 usb 3.0 pass-through ports for mice & other peripherals.. The speed of the usb 3 over usb 1 or 2 is the reason.. I know most folks don't have this requirement, but for me its important... This seems to be a Unicorn of sorts.. Any advice here would be great!!
no because Corsair has trash quality control and their keyboards fail right after the warranty expires and it chatters really badly and the stabilizers and keycaps suck
I'm not super big on Corsair right now. They were doing really well a few years ago but haven't done much to improve since then. I don't like their rattly stabilizers and the diamond plate texture on the spacebar for me is bleh. Better values out there atm.
Does cherry mx red automatically mean linear? Or is there such thing as a "tactile" cherry mx red? Shopping for my first Mechanical and I seem to prefer between tactile and linear (gaming in mind)
I'm currently shopping around for a new Razer keyboard and one thing that I'm quite picky about (for reasons that I don't fully understand myself) is that I prefer keyboards with the bigger enter key (I've looked through Google and I think the kind I'm talking about is the ISO/JIS enter key?). I'm considering getting the Ornata V2 and I wasn't sure if that has the enter key I'd prefer? When I purchased the keyboard I have currently back in 2018 the display picture had the smaller enter key, but when it arrived it had the ISO/JIS key instead, so I'm still just as confused haha. Any answer would be greatly appreciated :)
If anyone is like me and researching the hell out of keyboards before trying to buy the "perfect" one, this video is an excellent starting point for learning about mechanical keyboards and the things you'll need to know to understand the information you're seeing on review sites.
I can’t tell you how helpful this video was. I’ve been looking to get into mechanical keyboards for a month and starting with no knowledge this is the first video that’s broken down the barrier for me.
For me personally, it's all about getting used to it. I've tried different kind of keycaps and at the end of the day I choose blue switch because I have a habit to put my finger on my keyboard and always end up pressing it accidentally. The blue switch is very tactile (and loud) but I never press the keycaps accidently when I'm using it. yes, it is very loud but I've befriend the noise of the blue switch and I end up licking the noise it's produce :D
I recently bought a mechanical keyboard (for the first time) without knowing that it is a blue switch and I'm at the point of wearing earplugs while using it. So I decided to find something more silent but didn't know there was a lot of stuff to learn... This video covered all that up. Thanks a lot.
@@anonymoose8020 I didn't. There's a high pitch clicking sound coming from the switches even with the slightest touch, so, bottoming down the keys was never the issue. I got a new keyboard with Gateron Browns BTW. It is damn silent, yet I miss the clicky feedback of the blues...
You, my friend, have a lifelong sub. I'm also a massive fan of The Amory Wars and the Claudio Sanchez's Tetrology. The albums become so much more significant when you understand the cryptic story Coheed performs. Very concise and informative video that doesn't use a lot of terminology that I find really annoying in the keeb world. Keyboard enthusiasts are always describing boards and switches as being "sloppy" or "sketchy" as if that tells us remotely anything about them. Fry's Electronics... RIP

There's an approachable and relieving attitude in this video, as if to say "don't stress too much over it.", which is exactly what I'd been finding myself doing trying to understand mechanical keyboards. And, it's topped off with appropriately easy-going music.
Btw if you are super used to membrane seitches you will be more natural with blues and browns. Though zealios reminds mebrsne keyboard the most. Linears are for people who are more used to. You want long mm bottom out and fast actuation

Fun fact: Kailh Box switches aren’t called box because of the frame around the stem. This is a common misconception. They are actually called box switches because the metal contact inside the switch is encased in a box which is what makes it dust-proof and water resistant and also the reason why you can’t lube box switches
Do not buy browns they are just scratchy linears. Browns are the least tactile "tactile" switch. Well if you want a red switch filled with sand (that's how they feel in my opinion).
