    hey Jamie. Those are pretty vibrant shorts there. Not often does the saturation go off the scale from someone's shorts. In that case with something like that - there is an OFX called the Gamut Limiter that would pull something like that in for you. Not sure when you are going that fast that using sharpness on a still is a good judgement call. The motion blur is a big part of it feeling filmic. It actually should be pretty blurry. I haven't had anyone give me GoPro 10 footage, so can't add anything to the actual grade, except that the finished grade looks good.
    The challenge for me with GoPro in the past, is matching it up to normal footage. There has always been a sharpness on the edges that looked kind of videoy ( not a word ). Anyway short and concise as usual. Looks like you are coming close to 100k subs - congrats. You deserve it.

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  2 роки тому

      True. I tried to stop the clip where there wasn’t too much motion blur. I find the in camera sharpening to be terrible so I like to do it in post. The gamut limiter is a great idea didn’t think about it. I would either key it or adjust the sat curve to help and balance it. And yes almost at 100k!!! That means a lot thank you so much. Almost there 😃

    Jamie, I watched a number of videos on how to grade GoPro footage and all of the results I got were horrible, and the process to get to horrible was convoluted and drawn-out. Ah man, just that little Pivot adjustment made a huge difference for me! Had been struggling with getting a good image in higher dynamic range shots where the highlights get blown out. It makes sense now that I've done more research on it after your video, but wanted to come back and thank you for the info, my grades look so much better, can't wait to post the new results! 😁

    Great knowledge on the bright and dark spots on a trail, as a MTB UA-camr those are the Bain of my existence. Do you notice a difference when you add sharpening in post vs setting sharp to High on the GoPro?

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  2 роки тому +2

      Yea sometimes its tough to control the highlights on the Gopro in shots like this. I totally understand... I think turning the sharpening to high in camera is a bad idea because it looks way to sharp in my opinion. Leaving it on low lets you control the overall look in post and I would rather have the flexibly to add the amount I like rather than a baked in sharpness.

    Thanks for the tips, is there reason why you set WB to native instead of 5k in camera? Also is there a difference between the way you adjusted the highlights in HDR or in curves vs the the highlight box below the wheels?

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  2 роки тому +1

      Native seems to be the best WB for all around. (I have found it works best over the last couple years) And the HDR pallet helps fine tune different luminance ranges) I just wanted to show a couple options on how I control the highlights.

    • @PicturesofNewYork
      @PicturesofNewYork 2 роки тому +1

      @@JamieFenn Thanks as the GoPro WB always drives me nuts. I started with Native then started using 5k then 5.5k. Now I'll give Native another try. What is the difference between all the ways you can control highlights in Resolve? Is there one method better than others? Or just different ways to do the same thing.

    • @JamieFenn

    you say white balance native, but why put most of the FPV Pilots the White balance all to, 5500k most of the time? Is there any benefit that you could explain for keeping it Native? Thank you so much!

    • @JamieFenn
      @JamieFenn  Рік тому

      The "Native" white balance is actually more to do with the Color Gamut. The other "White Balance" settings use a Rec.709 Color Space whereas Native uses what is "visible" to the sensor and hence covers a wider spectrum.
