Although it is once again the "person does things nobody in their right mind would do and it leads to a cascade of other things nobody in their right mind would do" trope (like so many horror movies), what sold it for me was the camera work and the soundscape. Especially the beginning, when you get a nice shot of the lookout in this beautiful sundown, and you know, this is all the peace you will get, its going down from here on out. *spoilers* I also just love how you at first dont notice it, but then just realize how claustrophobic the building is with all the pitch black around it, and 360 degrees glass windows with nowhere to hide. The way the atmosphere changes from "great, I can watch everything from here" to "oh no, I can be watched from everywhere" is just awesome. Its sooo sneaky, and when you notice it, it is already too late. Its been a while since a horror movie gave me shivers. Brilliant.
lots if these crap tropey films are just student films where they don't care about avoiding tropes or making a good story, they just want to practice camera work, editing, and general film making
The film was great, but holy LORD was the MC suicidal. Like, something crawls onto your roof, you hear a woman say there is something out here and not even a minute later you hear her DEATH SCREAM and you go and investigate? And not only near you, into the forest and don't turn back when you see a sketchy spider-web that is wayy bigger then it should be, even your radio is telling you "something isn't right here"... Yeah, if you die after all of that it is on YOU. I would fortify my lookout, hide under the bed and pray to the Lord that I make it out alive, thank you very much
They have a duty of care though...so even if t he other woman was killed (even though you hear her again at the end so I've a hunch it was the monster or skinwalker with giant spider tentacles hybrid fkn with her (mind)& mimicking her or something or someone else...probably its previous victim most likely
This reminds me of the horror game "do you copy" same concept as this with the park ranger in a tower trying to help a survivor who is lost only to find a monster mimicking their voice.
She’s not out there just for fun, it’s literally her job to keep an eye on things and help people. Any ranger would go outside and try to locate the lost person and source of the distress call. The most unrealistic part to me was that she didn’t report it immediately, as calling in more resources is typical protocol. She’s familiar with the usual dangers of being in the mountains at night-the lost person being exposed to the elements, wandering off a bluff in the dark, or dying from dehydration, depending how long they’re out there. Even the sound on the roof is most likely a harmless animal. The last thing you’d expect is to run into w*ndigo Tom Holland on meth
I've lived on top of a mountain in the middle of the forest for over forty years. There's nothing to be afraid of except mountain lions, bears and wolves.
@@prantickghosh7589I used to visit friends in a mountaintop town called Silver Plume high up in the Rockies, only 150 people in the town, only thing to be afraid of is the other people. You'd be surprised what people do when there's no law close by. 😮😮😮😮

This is definetly one of the best horror shorts I've watched here on UA-cam! Even though it follows the usual plot-pattern (strange thing happens -> Girl wants to find out what it is -> things are getting more strange -> jumpscare -> end), it has that creepy and dark atmosphere that most horror short films lack. Great music, great acting and really atmospheric pictures (the dark lookout from that perspective for example (3:05) is enough to give me chills)!
This is the best short horror I have seen yet...very scary...and very well made. Have shared with all my friends and watched it several times. The eeriness is so addictive. Just wow !!
Why do people facing a creepy situation in a horror movie always do the exact opposite of what any rational person in real life would do?? Most of us would've locked and barricaded the doors and found a place to hide after waking up to sumthin creeping up the stairs of a fire look out in the middle of nowhere. But this woman (alone by herself) decides its a swell idea to not only go out to have a look-see, but venture out into the dark surrounding forest armed with only a damn flashlight!🤪
Her best bet was to get out of her cabin and pull out her radio like a make believe weapon and walk out into the open jungle to make sure the monster had his lunch asap.
This is a great video. You did an exceptional job with the sound and sound effects. That's one area that others miss the mark with. You guys really nailed it. Makes the movie so much more enjoyable.
So glad it drew you in so much that you want more! Probably not a part 2, but we have a feature script that we're hoping gets picked up! That one is even more wonderfully spooky!
That was fun! I actually wish it was longer, the atmosphere filled with menace the way I like it. I'm glad she didn't have a weapon going out in the darkness like that despite the creepy situation. Leveling the playing field is just unacceptable in horror! ;)
"Hello. Please, anybody I need help." -- What an idiot protagonist. I was cheering for the creature as soon as she stepped out the Lookout blazing her FLASHLIGHT with the light in the Lookout.
Always thought those towers should have a way to make them more secure at night for the people who work there ... Maybe lockable gates on the stairs, or the ability to pull some of the stairs up to create a blocked gap. No way could I stay in one without more security.
This was pretty cool, finally something different from other horror films. Apart from the end. I think it would be 1000× more effective if we did not see the (very humanoid) creature but instead only the woman reacting. Until that very moment, I was convinced a giant spider would appear. What makes classics like _Alien_ and _Blair Witch Project_ so effective is that one never sees the entire monster, respectively never actually sees it at all.
This gives me the goatman vibes. There's even a game based on goatman called "Do you copy" that is similar to this film though this film is about some weird creature that produces spider webs.
