Hi Emma! Thanks for featuring cacti/succulents in pon. Do you let the pon completely dry out between waterings or do you maintain a reservoir? Good luck with the new cabinet!
My goto succulent and cacti mix I use combination of cactus soil, perlite, grit and bit of orchid bark and they all do fantastic. Perfect drainage. Once you start doing well with them you'll get hooked like me, got over 100 now! Preferring them to my tropicals.
I've just gotten my first succulent and cactus, and find your pon results encouraging. Though will still struggle to not water them too often. Maybe put in the top shelf rather than the bottom one? Then you could have the little cacti dotted around instead of being all squashed together on the tiny shelves.
@@GoodGrowing The glas should let enough light through, you can "dot" strategically to not block the lower plants completely. I just think it's a a pity that you can't really see the small plants.
yess that's what I had in mind for dehumidifier but honestly it's in the 40-50% range now which is similar to what it was in the old spot so I think it may be alright?
My mum accidentally grew about 30 of these outdoors by scattering seeds around thinking they were a different plant 😂 they really thrived in soggy Northern England!
Indeed. I hate seeing that! Like just water them instead of allowing them to get to that stage. Succulents need more water than we've all been led to believe. Sure they are tolerant, but that doesn't mean they are happy same with snake plants.
I have the same lights on my rudsta and i use it for my tropicals as well. However due to the intensity of the light i keept the glass shelf at the top and the only thing that i have in that shelf, against the left side of the cabinet is my philodendron Florida ghost, it dries pretty quickly but it has been loving the light! I got the same magnetic shelves around 30cm down from the top glass shelve and i have my hoyas there and a couple of syngoniums. The rest of my plants live in the bottom of the cabinet and they are all doing every well, they are mainly philodendrons.
Hello. Not sure how I have missed you watering your cacti. Do you use the shower method? Do you have any snake plant, would you treat that the same as cacti?
It's mostly been in plant chores videos. I do it over the sink & let them drain out And yes I've got a few snake plants and I water them more often than I do my cacti maybe twice a month instead of once
A tip you probably don't need but just in case, If the light is too strong for the small ones, you can flip the magnetic shelves upside down and place them just under the ledge of the cabinet. That way they can be a little lower but not too far. I have the same cabinet and same shelves. Mine are flipped so that I can fit bigger pots. 💚
Some jungle cacti like epiphyllums need the sun to harden off stems, so basically, your growlight is just doing nature's job 😊 It's so sad to see your snake scale going to an early grave. I was so looking forward to seeing that grow and shingle 😢
The egg shape of the Lobivia is due to the lack of light 😕 Maybe you have the ids but just in case, the third tiny one looks like a Gymnocalycium baldianum
oh lol I was so excited though! Maybe being in this brighter spot will help it round back out! thanks! And no I've not got ID's for those little cacti cuz they were sold without them. So thanks for that too!
No such poor advice on watering. They can become hydrophobic and not accept water if they wrinkle too much. I missed one of mine and it luckily only lost a leaf, but if there are signs of new growth watering can help boost the leaves and promote the growth. Leaving it to wrinkle can also stunt new leaf growth.
ooh okay interesting. I didn't mean like wrinkle up fully more just feel a bit less plump 🤷♀️ I'll keep that in mind though as I'm defo not great at succulents still
@@GoodGrowing Everyone claims they don't need much watering and can just be left to their own devices, but I have found this not to be the case at all.
Please more of the 🌵💚

I let it totally dry out. They don't sit in a reservoir how I would keep something like an alocasia in semi-hydro.
They look great in it,👍

ooh interesting! I'm defo still figuring mine out but I think they're loving the semi-hydro life!
I think you cacti & succulents will love their new home. Thanks for sharing Emma!
lets hope 🤞

True true! But then the big ones wouldn’t get the light directly?

I just think it's a a pity that you can't really see the small plants.
You could use one of those moisture trap box things you get in B&m and the like for window cills and wardrobes..

On the bottom you can put some Haworthia or Gasteria, they do not need to much light
oooooh good shout! Gotta get myself some more now!
You should put a desert style on the back wall of the cabinet - it would really look awesome.
haha omg yes! like a little dessert mural!
@@GoodGrowing Just what I was thinking.
So interesting to see someone growing senecio angel wing indoors! I've always known it to be an outside plant that def didn't like to dry out
My mum accidentally grew about 30 of these outdoors by scattering seeds around thinking they were a different plant 😂 they really thrived in soggy Northern England!
yeah I didn't realise its mostly and outdoor plant... maybe I should put it in my window boxes!
Awesome 🤩
Love the idea of a cactus/succulent cabinet! ❤ I know what i want for Christmas 😂
right! I never would have thought but this feel like the perfect setup for them!
No, no, no, do not wait for them to wrinkle!

ah yeah that makes a lot of sense. The light is just far too bright to keep anything close to the top! thanks for sharing 🥰
Love this! 🌱

ooh that makes sense! good idea! I'll be sure to keep an eye on them for the first while! thanks!
Would a new light fix the problem?
I like❤️
Keep an eye on your pickle plant! While they’re a succulent they can burn in very direct light.
oooh okay thanks! maybe I'll move it lower down

I was just coming to say this. 😊 Holiday cacti will do the same thing.
omg I know i was sooooo sad about the snake scale... alas! I can try again another time 🤷♀️
Some of my jungle cactus change texture get darker at the base with age maturity . Think it looks good and it’s flowering so should be be ok 🎉
yeah I was thinking that may be the case but it looks like it's almost too dark?? i might just leave it for a while and see if it gets worse 🤷♀️
@@GoodGrowing ohhh okk. I think I’d wait it out too
I think the baseball cactus is actually a euphorbia globosa obesa. 😀
it very well could be! thanks!! I'm so much worse at succulent & cacti names 🙃
That no ID cactus looks like a very young Golden Barrel - Echinocactus grunsonii
omg it so does!! thanks for the ID!
@@GoodGrowing no problem! I love my Golden Barrel until it comes to repotting…
On euphorbia ghost: I got me a cutting and it took me MONTHSSSS to root and more than a YEAR before it showed me new growth..
Need more videos lol
I’m working on it 💚
@@GoodGrowing I'm addicted to you and Clare. 💚

Hoya Polynuera is a thirsty one,she needs a bigger pot that retains more moist otherwise you won't be able keep it alive.
ooh good to know! thanks!
