  • The way in which schools discipline students varies and unfortunately it can mean harsher treatment for students who are already facing adversity. A recent study found Black students in Ohio were four to six times more likely to be disciplined with suspension or expulsion than their white peers. Students with special needs and lower income students were disproportionately impacted by school discipline.
    This hour, we're going to talk about a new Ideastream Public Media produced documentary focused on Akron Public Schools, as the district attempts to deal with inequities in how students are treated and attempts to foster a better school environment.
    Later in the program, a look at a mental health fair being put on at Bolton Elementary School in Cleveland's Fairfax neighborhood. (Air date: May 13, 2024).
