URGHH i need this 😭 im auditioning on the 21st for my schools musical, and this is my forst time auditioning for this school! its an arts school so i know expectations are very high so i need to perfect it lol
@d4ngerousw0man the cast list went up a day early. However, I did not end up getting the part I wanted, I did get double casted as my backup option. But, due to my other commitments I have (that I was willing to pu aside if I got a bigger part), being a character (who I wasn’t even guaranteed to perform at all), made no sense to do. But, I was offered to be a part-time choreographer to help with some of the numbers!
@ Proud of you!! don't give up tho, this builds experience and character and you can always try other auditions for other things! I hope the choreo goes well if you do it though and don't forget to practice acting like the character you've been double casted for just in case♡ :)
thank ya! i sooonly will be auditioning for my school musical for the first time, and im really damn anxious about it because i dont really know how the process goes 😭😭 im also a nervous wreck so its good to know that it is important to not let it show
hii! i’ve actually just wrapped up filming with a crew a few days ago. i initially auditioned for one of their main roles, but i was casted as an extra instead. nevertheless i want to take what i can from that audition and see what i can do better next time ^^ when you mentioned to not make anyone on the panel my scene partner, i recalled what i did that day. there were two people on the panel, and because i’m supposedly having a conversation with another character during the scene, one of them was reading the lines of that character for me. was it right for me to look at that person on the panel as if she was the character i was conversing with, or should i have looked somewhere else?
Oh such a good point!!! I should've clarified. Yes - that was the right call. I meant monologues and songs in this video. For sides, you should always look at your reader unless directed to do something otherwise 😊
HIIIIIII, thanks for all the advice but I have a question, where I’m a supposed to look when singing? To their faces?, the wall?, the pianist?, the air….. PLEASE HELP ❤
I have a question. So im auditioning for a theather high school soon but one of my monolouges i have to point at someone and say YOU! So who do i point at I have a chair as my prop, do i use that??
Typically you pick one eyeline just above the casting directors heads (assuming you're not speaking to an animal on the floor or a tiny child - then it may vary) and treat it like the person you're talking to is standing there. From the sounds of it, that's who you'd say "you" to :)
Great question! I didn't ask every director this question, but one of the ones I asked said "I personally do not mind" 😊 He is the artistic director of a semi-professional company. I have a faint memory asking another director but I can't remember what she said. I wish I asked more people ;)
Thx so much this was amazing!! I never thought that all these little mistakes I made could effect my audition! Also can u just grab your stuff and leave at the end. Or do u have to wait a bit so that u are not rude? And what are good songs from musicals to sing?
I've never struggled to know when the directors were done with me because they usually say something like "well... I think that's it" and they look around to the other directors to see if they oppose. And then you hop on out of there :)
thank you so much for the tips! I'll have my first audition next week. I want to ask when you sing a song in audition, should you sing like it is the musical with expression and little movement or better to just singing straight?
Sing as if you're the character! Think about what the character is trying to achieve during the song, and do everything you can as the actor to get it!
praying you get to my question..so im soon audituing for matilda! when it comes to playing her, do you think you have any tips that could help me? this is my first ever audtion and i want to bring in the audience as best as i can!!
Hey! Im auditioning for Alice By Heart with my musical company and Im having a really hard time picking a song that is similar to the style of the song but I don't want to use Spring Awakening. Do you have any song ideas!?
@ they gave me a commercial script I need to read out, but like I have no idea what I should be doing with my hands and stuff 😭 any tips, I can be awkward and put my hands to my sides and be standing there like a robot 😭
@@stay5028 Make sure you're chasing an objective at all times when you're acting, and the movement will come along with that. For example: I am saying these words to get this person to love me. Slap me. Untie my shoe. Be my friend. And do as much as you can to achieve that objective. Tactics :)
Ok when i think i am done with an audition, I normally just say like “am I good to go?” And they’ll normally say like “your good” anyways I just didn’t know if this was ok for an audition or if I should just kind of walk out.
does anyone have any tips on just being less anxious at an audition? for me auditioning is the hardest part in theater, i’m never anxious on stage but always in auditions 😭
thank you! im auditioning for my schools version of hadestown. this would be my first musical. i have a question about the monologue portion. ive been told to pick something that relates to the musical by friends. does it matter at all?
Ooo! My best suggestion based on what I've learned in my schooling is to find a monologue that SPEAKS TO YOU and has a similar feel to the show or character you're auditioning for. So for example, if you were auditioning for Gertrude in Seussical, I would definitely avoid a monologue that's overly dramatic such as something touching on a heavy topic, but instead I would pick a comedic monologue that's maybe even a bit quirky. So overall: "pick to suggest" and pay attention to the themes of the monologue compared to the themes of the play and your character 😊
Guys i need advice,i have to audition for a school i really want to go to,i have to do a monologue and this is the most life changing thing i will ever do,send help 😔

Generally recommended to look above them, to an imaginary audience that would be sitting behind them.
@ THAAAANKS
Somewhere on the wall, just above the casting directors' heads is the most typical. But different pieces can require different eyelines :)
Thanks so much for this!
Thank you! Do you have any tips on acting out monologue?

can i ask- does it bother casting directors if the actor picks a song from the musical or show they are auditioning for?

Aweee FUN! Pick material you're passionate about when auditioning :)
