I've owned three of them. They've all been reliable as a claw hammer, easy to service, and make repairs on. Had a few Stihls mixed in there too, can't say the same of them.
I have enough Stihl equipment to call myself a 'Stihl guy', but my Stihl saws never like to start so it's all Dolmar/Husqy in my world. I ran an 024 and an 064 at work for a few years and I'd rather have a 346XP and a 394XP any day.
I got a 15 year old 372XP with a knackered piston and cylinder for nothing. The previous owners had someone use it twice, ran it without oil in the mix twice. I bought a Chinese piston and cylinder for £120 pounds, runs great!! I'm surprised the guy didn't use the decompressor for starting, just less strain on the cord, the pulley and the arm.
@@georgedoorley5628 To save weight on professional saws, they put a smaller pulley and mechanism, this allows with the use of a high compression engine an easier pull and less strain on the parts. This is what a Husqvarna sales guy told me at one of the shows, makes sense!! A design feature put in to make starting easier, maybe some people don't want this or maybe need to show how tough they are. If you have a car or van maybe you can disconnect the power steering assistance as well!!!!
Why would you not want spiked dogs on thin bark trees? It looks like they are for kept distance from the muffler or if you wanted to remove spikes for milling (as rusty says) if the mill set up would otherwise put contact too close. Saws ran by idiots can start fires. I've seen the aftermath of a pinched bar (no wedges used) and the user trying to still cut their way out. It was during flush cutting of a stump.
No they don't, i've never had any saw be it Stihl or Husvqarna stick in thin bark trees like beech, you'd have to push it with serious force to get it stuck tight.
Rusty- A buckin monkey beats just being a swamper. Scott- I assumed dogs were for biting while pivoting during cuts, I don't know how one could get them stuck in an undesirable way. Pulling the powerhead away from the tree should unstick any stuck dogs. Maybe its a low CC with oversized dogs that would cause bogging? Erik- Dolmars don't have that issue either... maybe it's a safety feature in modern Homelites and Polans with bar tip caps?
Make sure and keep the rpm's to around 12,800 on the saw. The oreginal 372 was a phenomenal saw, but the heavy piston in the Xtorque version is really hard on the big end bearing. Running 40:1 or even better 32:1 in these saws is a must if you plan on keeping it around. I'm honestly not fond of the 372XT for the reasons I mentioned above. The true replacement to the 372, the 572xp is do out in August, the crank bearings are the size of the 395 bearings, so it looks to be a overbuilt durable saw, time will tell.
bobe8888 COME ON no way would I run 32:1 you talking about a mistake for long life clean burn is very important you would have so much oil residue on piston in muffler. Probly why you dont have luck. Thats why you do what someone that spends millions building and designing a saw recomends. I use stihl synthetic oil only. 50:1. Been running saws all my life. i own several that I run every day not one issue yet besides kill switch. In 2016 bought new one just to see how it hold up compared to my older ones that I have had for years. I cut 1800 rick of HICKORY firewood that year where i bought out handle mill culls solely with that saw. I still use it today and it still looks and runs like new saw. Have bought 2 others sence.
George Stepp With the proper tune and good oil the engine will burn just as clean, and in most cases cleaner than 50:1. I personally have not had problems, the people's saws that I have had to repaire were ran on 50:1, there were not getting a year of use out of their 390's or 372's after switching to 32:1 the issues vanished. 50:1 was created by the EPA to reduce emissions, not by the manufacturers, in fact most manufacturers will recommend more oil in extreme conditions. When I take a saw that was ran on 50:1 the botom ends are always bone dry, not so with 40:1 or 32:1. If you do a little research you will understand my advice is not half baked or created from thin air, like most who post on the internet.
James Miller Unfortunately it properly best he keeps the saw tuned about where it is, too many rpm's will kill the 372XT. I don't get involved in back and forth conversations on YT I just try and offer good sound information, and try and prevent the spread of the poor information.

Some loggers up here in the NE run the smooth dogs to cut faster through the trees without resetting the log dogs as they bite into the tree bark. It's all preference.
I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
Been waiting for this video! This is by far my favorite saw. I was stoked when you got one at Hansen's, but bummed that it was clapped out.... Hopefully you will enjoy this new one as much as I do!
Just bought my second 372. I just help clear a 2 acre lot of nothing but oak. That 372 went through that stuff like butter. Nice powerful machine. No struggle. I love it
OMG my dream saw. I want one so badly. Just waiting on the right deal on a nice used one. Can't justify throwing out over $1200 for one. But man, that thing is about the coolest saw ever built. That and the 562xp (which I do have).
372xp almost 15 Year’s old, double wrap pro anti vibe handle. Thousands of cuts with a 32 inch blade (largest recommended size when I bought mine), if I ever find the occasional need for a 40 inch blade I wouldn’t be afraid to put it on my machine. Piece of advice, some Loctite on the the pull cover screws especially the one that also retains the brake guard, it likes to vibrate out.
Kill switch like my old jonsered won't break like those toggles. Have to be careful tossing saw into the truck because choke pull is a little vulnerable. I prefer the husky/ Jonny sound to the stihls
One of the first thing to do with new saws is to always take of exhaust and look for a metal screen they come in most or all saws these days they gum up and overheat the saw if left there.
One of my favorite worldly possessions, kinda creepy when I actually see that statement in text instead of saying it in my head. Upside if some one buys one, you won't leave the house without a tiny screw driver
been watching you for awhile, finally subscribed today. also I have that same floor jack. Armstrong, strongarm! local body shop was gonna scrap it, wouldn't work. got it for $40 from a friend that works there, filled it up with oil and works great
I made this same purchase little over a year ago and you will not be disappointed. That saw frickin screams and always starts. I would like to have another but I thought they quit selling em?
Just watch local auctions. Around here there is chainsaws in all of them plus the Facebook marketplace. I just bought a 365 this week but it had a 372 top end on it. I guess maybe he bought a 365 and really wanted a 372 I don't know saw looked brand new and I got the OE top end and it wasn't scored or anything but I paid $400 for it I think I got a pretty good deal. I bought another awesome saw last week a Makita DCS6421 for $250 from another guy off the FB marketplace. He bought it as a Home Depot rental saw which I figured before he told me because the bar had orange paint on it. I bought a Stihl 066 too from another guy for $400 and an 026pro for $50. See tons of them on the marketplace but at auction some guys go nuts. I wanted an 046 a few weeks ago I figured I could buy for $300-$600 that didn't look like the owner had ever used, all his other saws were well used Stihls from the 60s-70s. One guy started bidding against me when I thought I owned it and I ran him to $800 lol probably could have got a new saw whatever the new model is MS461 whatever it is for a couple hundred more then he paid then he had 10% auction fees after paying $800 plus taxes lol. I bought a Stihl 009L, 017, and Husqvarna 142 all for around $80 know they are all homeowner saws but for that cheap. I had to replace plugs and fuel filters and lines in all of them but that was all pretty cheap to have a saw I can throw in the back of my Can Am SxS or one of my ATVs and not worry about if I lost it or hurt it. Could probably sell them for $75-$125 each especially since we have a hurricane heading our way right now. There was just a Husqvarna 395 for $450 on the marketplace here too but I think he sold it before I could buy that too there is 2 more though but one guy wants $1200 for his the other $600. I don't know what they cost but $1200 seems pretty steep for a used saw even if it has the heated handle and all I can't imagine its more then $1400-$1600 new.
Just got one brand new, exactly bar don't stay on the taper bolt for shit. I've got 2 problems. My saw bogged when hammer throttle and bogged in the cut, to it to a dealer to tune , got back was worse. Played with it myself and it's close but cannot dial it in. When almost through the log its like the chain binds up and stops. Don't know why especially when looks fine but did it numerous times today. Does your drive sprocket move on shaft in and out like 3/16" At the moment my 460 blows the doors off the 372 got to figure this out.
I've got a 390xp and it's got terrible dogging teeth, I need them like the ones on my 3120xp. Can you make a video on dogging teeth please. I'm sure it will help a lot of people. Great video as always. Thankyou, it's a great milling saw as well as for felling.
Smooth dog is because some people like it that way. And nylon caged bearings comes with huskies. Not steel caged bearings. This is why they don't last as long which people will argue but there's a reason saw guys and people like brad snelling and afleetcommand replace the stock bearings and why professional loggers burn them up aft 1-5 years.
ian martin Almost all new Stihl saws have nylon cage bearings as well. The issue with the 372 Xtorque is the heavy piston is too much for the big end rod bearing not the crank bearings, thoes are fine. Keeping the rpm's down and running good oil at a more appropriate ratio like 40:1 or 32:1 helps these saws.
You have to replace the carb, intake boot, ignition coil and a few other bits as well, but it has been done many times. The good thing about the Xtorque it does make good low end grunt, but most still prefer the non XT 372's.
Vedran Stepančič I was just in the same spot a few days ago when my 590 went out. I run a 461 at work and it's a great saw, lots of power. I personally for my firewood business got the 372. It's an excellent saw as well. I'm not felling as many trees on my own so the power to weight ratio was what did it for me.
Vedran Stepančič no worries. Both are great saws as mentioned. In my area you can get the 372 for 900 with a 24inch bar while the 461 is 1100 with a 25 inch bar. Price, weight, and power are your variables to work with based on your needs
I need a new saw my 460 rancher has been good but I want something better. i would love to buy myself a new professional saw I just don't know anything about them. what do yaw think about the 562xp in price it seems to be the next step up from the rancher.
Can I get a how to for the chain brake lock and replacing the spring for this model (372xp). I can not find one anywhere :( chain is stuck so I reset the chain lock and cleaned it out. While doing so the spring popped out and when I got it back in it got stuck again. So i took the spring out to try again. Am I missing something??
Smooth bar spikes are for people who don’t want it to bite into the wood they want it to slide down the log more or less,my grandfather grinds his down on his 562 but on his 373 he has the smooth one
Hey human I'm looking to buy a new pro saw I'm looking at the 372xp or the ms462 cm. And I'm looking for a powerful saw can you give me your point of view please and thank you
Hey dude did i see a gold nugget underneath your table you did the review on. Let me find out you are messing around with the PRO MAC 10-10. Thats my baby!
A couple things....#1.The choke placement is terrible. My echo 620 has the choke in the same spot and it's easy to push it back in with your leg when you go to start it. #2. I can't believe that with 5.6 HP they say a max bar length of 28 inches. I would think it could go 32" easy. My 620 is 4.5 HP and it's rated for up to 27".
I need a 60-75 cc saw that's more pro then amateur, considering 562xp but damn the dues to be in that club are expert level. Any thoughts? Handled a fake MS880 yet? Shit I'd pull the trigger on one of those but I refuse to be a poser I'd hafta paint it Chinese smog gray or something
Jax Turner the newer saws in that range prices are ridiculous most of the older good saws in that range are hard or next to Impossible to get anymore such as a 362 365 and the 372xpw which actually was 75 cc's you can still get the 372xp X torque for around $900
can you tell me if the 372xp has dual ring design around the piston or a single piston ring design arround the piston. I am trying to decide betwwen a stihl ms 461 and husqvarna 372xp
After watching your review, I'll stick with Stihl. I'm glad it has an inboard clutch, but other than than, I can't find anything redeeming about that saw. The mish-mash of fasteners, the punie choke lever, the vertical air filter that allows gravity to funnel particulates into the carb every time you clean it, tapered bar posts, no captured bar nuts, etc... . I'm sure it cuts fine and Husky guys will tell me how great it is, but no thanks.
moaski I have a 372 and a 461 the only thing the stihl has more of is power. Vibes from husky are half as much and air injection keeps filter almost perfect. At the same time the stihl has never been worked on and it's a full year of tree services and firewood now.
moaski Besides that though I do trust Stihl saws more, they just work. For a crew I have Stihls but for myself I run my 372, but the t540 has been an excellent top handle for about 4 years now have not touched that at all besides air filters.
I just bought a 365 that had a 372 top end on it. I got the 365 top end with it too and it wasn't scored or anything looks like the guy bought a 365 and really wanted a 372 I don't know but the saw looks like its been babied and I paid $375 for it. Think I got a pretty good deal. Also bought a Makita DCS6421 the other day that was a Home Depot rental for $250 think I really got a good deal on that and $50 for a Stihl 026pro.
I've owned three of them. They've all been reliable as a claw hammer, easy to service, and make repairs on. Had a few Stihls mixed in there too, can't say the same of them.

Not really, don't want to spend the money on something I'd have to take to the dealer to have sharpend.
Very nice video! I'm in the market for a new saw and can't decide between 372xp and MS 461. What would you suggest?
Vedran Stepančič I was just in the same spot a few days ago when my 590 went out. I run a 461 at work and it's a great saw, lots of power. I personally for my firewood business got the 372. It's an excellent saw as well. I'm not felling as many trees on my own so the power to weight ratio was what did it for me.
kryz cpak Thanks for the feedback!
Vedran Stepančič no worries. Both are great saws as mentioned. In my area you can get the 372 for 900 with a 24inch bar while the 461 is 1100 with a 25 inch bar. Price, weight, and power are your variables to work with based on your needs
I have a stock 371. audit runs a 32inch bar just fine
U will convert. Lol. Had a 272 burnt in a fire years ago. Have an 08 372xp best saw I own so far.
I need a new saw my 460 rancher has been good but I want something better. i would love to buy myself a new professional saw I just don't know anything about them. what do yaw think about the 562xp in price it seems to be the next step up from the rancher.
Love the videos man!! Also you look like the punisher haha! Hella scary man!
Smooth replacement might be for ice cutting ?
Great saw. I have one with a 30" .050 cannon bar and chisel skip chain.
R the smooth ones for milling so u don’t scrape the wood?
Nice saw but the older non xtorq are way better
husqvarna 365 💪💪💪👍
Hey human I'm looking to buy a new pro saw I'm looking at the 372xp or the ms462 cm. And I'm looking for a powerful saw can you give me your point of view please and thank you
Hey dude did i see a gold nugget underneath your table you did the review on. Let me find out you are messing around with the PRO MAC 10-10. Thats my baby!
I have one question how cost this?pls replay
gotta 38 on 372xp. dont use it too much except on boxed in cottage trees. saving my 044 from the abuse!
to the experts.
can you use a sword of lesser Inch, in a husbarna 372 xp?
A couple things....#1.The choke placement is terrible. My echo 620 has the choke in the same spot and it's easy to push it back in with your leg when you go to start it. #2. I can't believe that with 5.6 HP they say a max bar length of 28 inches. I would think it could go 32" easy. My 620 is 4.5 HP and it's rated for up to 27".
Sthil ka asha ya hasqvarna ka
Can I ask what length of the bar are you using on this chainsaw?
Didn’t realise you could stihl get the the 372
Aaron Stiles the 572 aren't made in us yet so they still gotta make the 372 😉
Now there's a subliminal messsge for ya. For those who didn't catch it. ......"stihl"......
How does your dealer let you leave with the saws in the box.... mine won’t let me 😭😭😭😭
Might be because He used to work at his dealer so they are cool with him wanting one in a box.
“I don’t have the proper wood” lol
I need a 60-75 cc saw that's more pro then amateur, considering 562xp but damn the dues to be in that club are expert level. Any thoughts?
Handled a fake MS880 yet? Shit I'd pull the trigger on one of those but I refuse to be a poser I'd hafta paint it Chinese smog gray or something
Jax Turner the newer saws in that range prices are ridiculous most of the older good saws in that range are hard or next to Impossible to get anymore such as a 362 365 and the 372xpw which actually was 75 cc's you can still get the 372xp X torque for around $900
Im not a Husky guy but thats a very nice saw. 😎
Quality kiski Ashi hai
The 372 has always been a great saw, it's just a bit dated. I'm looking forward to the new 572.
would this saw work good with a chain saw mill
can you tell me if the 372xp has dual ring design around the piston or a single piston ring design arround the piston. I am trying to decide betwwen a stihl ms 461 and husqvarna 372xp
unsure
Go with the Stihl 100%
dual ring
Alex Matthews the Stihl HD2 air filters do leave a lot to be desired. I toss them in the parts bin and replace them with MaxFlow kits immediately.
moaski Besides that though I do trust Stihl saws more, they just work. For a crew I have Stihls but for myself I run my 372, but the t540 has been an excellent top handle for about 4 years now have not touched that at all besides air filters.
I agree
140 psi is good compression for 372xp 2003?
Is this original saw or clone?
Beasty boys hell yes. Good video
I'm so happy for you. Best news I've heard in a while. Way to go.!!!
Thumbs up for System of a Down
572 on the list ??
Sounded a bit lean on the low side brother. I'd richen it up a bit.
I must say, sir, you have excellent taste in music. At least for a human.
Id figure the smooth dawg would be for milling. Dunno for sure tho
Hello sar sar iska kya price hai

sorry ... i think title about 372xp cs.. but demo have not same
I was thinking the same thing Smooth dog alaska milling. Nice saw.
The dog is behind the rail on the mill. Take them off and you can gain an inch.
