Slight correction, Kyoshi wasn’t misidentified because she didn’t pass the relics test, she actually chose 4 correct toys, she was overlooked for being bigger then other kids her age and with no parents to verify her age they believed her to be too old to be the new avatar and she fled believing the kindness of picking 4 toys to be a trick. So actually the relic test was spot on
No, she just ran out of the room in fear after selecting one toy, and didn't complete the test. As for why the Earth Kingdom's geomancy test wasn't working, it's because that particular test was designed on the premise that an Earth Kingdom Avatar would be living in a fixed position; Kyoshi's parents were thieves, and her mother was a former Air Nomad with a sky bison, so they were constantly on the move.
I kinda hate how they made jinoras character😐 She was more spiritually connected to everything than korra and they could've made Korra like that I hate how the made jinora honestly she took Korras place
I thought almost the same exact things - Even in the future of Avatar, documenting the lives of the entire global population will, more or less, be on par with our real world, making finding the next Avatar's easier. The next element of the avatar may not even be born in its nation of origin. However, I believe that by that point, the world will be so globalized and interconnected that everyone will have some earth bender heritage in their background. I think nearly everyone will have some degree of each element in their lineage. I think that would make finding the Avatar, even in modern time / the future, more difficult.
I think they should have the first season be about finding the next Avatar who is desperately needed because of global conflict or incoming instability...But they can't easily find them and even giving up when the warfare starts. Proceed to the warfare years in the making and not only is one Avatar found but another is presented as well (Fake Puppet for political reasons or a Reborn Dark Avatar destined to bring about further chaos). Leading to confusion from both candidates and the entire world...Then to further create drama and tension have it be unclear which is the Light and which is the Dark/Fake because they're both aggressive and war hungry being loyal to different competing powers in the world. But instead of ending with them condemning or killing one another as the world leaders demand or either of them being in the wrong...By the second season have them both being shown as in the right and slowly but surely come together to bring about true peace and balance to the world. The new moral theme being about how it's no longer possible for a single Avatar to preserve the delicate balance but that at least two are needed. With a further twist being they're both Real Avatars as Twins who were separated at birth and each of them has a piece of Raava and Vaatu in them. Or that yes one of them is the Dark Avatar or Fake Avatar but it doesn't matter because they reject destiny and Vaatu's or the corrupt governments influence to be a good person.
@@flamesofchaos13 that's a very cool idea. Book 2 of Korra was weak, not bc of the "dark avatar" but bc the otherwise impeccable writing of Avatar was reduced to "evil for evils sake". Many many modern anime and even live action series and movies have played with anti heros and the themes of "no one is truly good or evil. It's all gray. It's all perspective. It's all misunderstanding and fear of the others". The dark avatar returning but not being "pure evil for evil sake" would redeem the entire concept imo. As well as bending evolving to the point where it's easier than ever to take on the avatar/s. Ordinary benders have fought and won against many past avatars. And during Korra's time, non bender could take on the avatar. Give bending and technology another century of development, and even the avatars raw power won't be as god like in comparison anymore. That's how I always thought the avatar series should end. Not with one powerful demigod always patrolling the earth in new vessels, but each individual alive having a form of that power in their own hands.
Well, it is someone who is born in the Earth Kingdom and an Earthbender or could it be any Earthbender/whatever element is next? The specifics of this was not clear to me. But it would be cool if he/she next Avatar was living somewhere not in the Earth Kingdom, maybe.
Here’s the thing, what if the new Earth Avatar is born in somewhere far removed from the modern cities of the Earth Kingdom, like for example the Si Wong Desert? It’s possible that the Sandbender Tribes don’t exactly have precise paperwork’s like everyone else. I know, I know but I just can’t move past Legend of Genji, I was fully invested in it. I mean they could have at least had Genji find out he was the Avatar before they cancelled it.
But it could also happen that the creators bought the Legend of Genji off because of its popularity and concept. Who knows. I'm not into thhe Legend of Genji because he seems like a more rebellious type of person, worse than Kyoshi and Korra, but that's just me and my conservative thoughts.
Genji was the Avatar? Wait, the guy that everyone said was the Avatar was actually not the Avatar!?!? And they got it wrong?? Genji would actually be the Avatar!!! No way that's so cool. When I read it I was confused at first because the main character wasn't who everyone was saying the Avatar was. But a Sandbending Avatar is the best idea no way. Darn, I can't believe the Legend of Genji creators came up with such great ideas! I loved all the characters!
I sorta hope that the one theory that Avatars are cyclical in such a way that they fix the past incarnation's mistake while suffering their own tragedy is something that comes to fruition. The Earth Avatar could eventually fix the connection with their past lives or something with the harmonic convergence but have a failing that echoes down to their successor in the likes of Roku not being able to stop Sozin.
That all being said, I also feel that it might be better if we got more on past Avatars. Might just be personal taste, but the modernized elements never really sat right with me, but maybe that was the point?
They could easily do sth similar to the legend of Genji and the Kyoshi novels and have the Avatar misidentified. You know the clocks are the biggest allies but also the biggest enemies. A sheer coincidence could lead to someone else be named the next Avatar because of their time of birth, while the real Avatar was just born in a non-advanced village (maybe even a sand tribe or sth)
Well, another Earth Avatar who gets misidentified... Genji was fanmade and after Korra, but Kyoshi is canon and the previous Earthbending Avatar [who was also misidentified]. It would be cool but perhaps would imply that the Earth Kingdom isn't very good at properly identifying the Avatar, which would be fine I guess if that was established.
My ideas for the next Avatar Show: 1. An overall main villain. Each season can definitely be focused on a smaller villain but it should all lead up to one big bad. 2. Have the avatar be able to do the op special bending techniques WITH EASE. This would allow an entire season to be about everybody questioning if they should kill the avatar or not due to the fact that they're too dangerously powerful. Blood bending is illegal, lightning & lava could easily destroy the walls of ba sing sei, you wouldn't even need to with flying, & everything gets amped up with the avatar state. That would honestly be a really good season. 3. Explore the fact that the people with the avatar are overshadowed. How do you not feel useless when there's an avatar around? And if this avatar is really OP, well, there's no way you're not getting overshadowed.
Ahhh, people or a person being jealous of the Avatar is definitely a very interesting thing too tap into. A lot of people believe that the place they're in is okay and they're good to accept where they are and not being the Avatar, but not everybody will have the same thoughts... Someone might be very jealous of the Avatar for being able to bend multiple elements in general, even if he isn't OP. I can imagine the possibility that most people would be afraid of the power that the Avatar has or feel safe because of it. But I dunno really lol Of course feeling overshadowed might be a bit different from someone being jealous. ?
I liked the idea of Korra's successor being a sandbender. I hope Avatar Studios takes that idea from Legend Of Genji. I also wonder if a dark avatar will be born at the same time as Korra's successor. Rava was pulled out of Unavatu after being destroyed, so it only makes sense that Vatu would regenerate out of Rava at some point. The soonest time where Rava will be without a human body to stop that from happening is while traveling from Korra's body to the body of her successor. Sure, that happens insanely fast, but Vatu regenerating from within Rava might slow it down a bit.
To counter that, because people are typically not confined to their usual nations AND the Earth Kingdom is already bigger than usual, it's going to be even harder to find the next Avatar.
i think the cyberpunk setting would be more fitting for an fire avatar, since he could perfect the art of lighning bending to hack into electronic devices.
Genji could still do that, the whole shtick of being the avatar is being able to bend all four elements. Plus Kora proves sub elements aren't off limits when she becomes a metal bender.
Yeah, but the Avatar can learn Lightningbending at some point and do that, only it wouldn't be something he or she does before finding out he/she is the Avatar, which would be interesting. But it would be cool if one of the main characters was a Lightningbender who used it to mess up/hack electronic devices, or some other character role. Maybe there's a group of people who do this and one of them separates, or perhaps he/she figured this out on their own and uses it keeping their identity a secret.
Even in modern times there's also cases of babies being switched at birth which could be interesting to happen to an Avatar. Imagine finding out that not only is your biological kid not your biological kid and that someone swapped them but also your kid is (or isn't) the Avatar! Unrelated but something i'd love to see in an avatar series is an avatar with siblings. I wonder if they might be jealous or supportive if their sibling turned out to be an avatar. Also, an Avatar series set in a post-apocalyptic world like Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind might be a way to eventually keep the timeline moving forward without going too "in" on the tech and returning to those more earthy/natural roots.

So they'd be raising the biological child of the parents that ended up with the Avatar but when they found out the children had been swapped, the Avatar couldn't go to their biological parents, staying with the parents they grew up with and having the other child be part of their family too? Then it could be like the Avatar and the child that got swapped and raised by the Avatar's biological parents are siblings? I'm not sure how good of idea this is or if it's too much tho heheh... Hey antoine, great content as always.I've always thought that since there is so much spiritual energy maybe there could be energybenders in the new avatar series or we could see that when wan closed the portals there were still people there and they lived with the spirits for 10,000 years and developed energybending but not blasting it but rather bending the energy with substances like wood or trees or crystals or platinum. And they would need to meditate on it and have a true heart and true mind to be able to have deep understand their own energy to connect with that of the substance they wish to bend and when they are connected they will be able to bend it rather than energy bending being a laser light show 😂. It would also coincide with what the lion turtle told Aang about energy bending. Maybe we could even have an energybender avatar after the earth avatar since Aang got energybending from the lion turtle thus making energy the 5th element in the cycle after Earth. I've thought about this idea for so long and would love if you talked about it.
And it would be cool to see how the spirit world energybenders who are basically their own nation at this point react and go along with the rest of the world after the creation of the new spirit portal. It would be so cool
Energy wouldn't be the "5th Element". If anything; it's more like Element 0. Or the Precursor to the Elements. Having Energy as the 5th Element would mean only the Avatar and those of a Nation of Energy could Energybend. Which wouldn't be the case.
@@joesunday199 I don't think anyone apart from the avatar has been seen energybending, it might have been lost with time so my idea was since korra created a new portal we see there have been people living there for as long as the avatar has been a thing(10,000 years), so in this case these were probably the OG benders who can actually manipulate original energy and not the element.
@@joesunday199 if anything, Void, the lack of any bendable thing, being the 5th element type and could be much more mental, causing those it's used against to suffer from false memories, permanent psychosis things like that. would be cool for a more morally grey/ruthless (not to mean evil but just doing what's best regardless of the cost in lives it takes, a true the needs of the many mentality avatar) avatar to use, and even have it where it was only discovered in the modern era as more technology becomes available ultimately ending it it's discovery being from a Space Program created in the time between Korra and the new avatar. could even have it be a split off/merger of earth and water bending in terms of techniques to use it as a way of the 2 elements that can't create their needed thing from nothing (like fire and air benders can in some way) and even make it the true neutral, an element of limitless creation but also limitless destruction, if it had to absolutely do things to the physical world
Is it weird that I’m more concerned about the villain than the new avatar?! I feel like all of Korra missed out on giving us a non-bender main villain that was more terrifying than anyone that came before. I’m talking Lex Luthor/Viktor Von Doom types.
well, in a futuristic cyber-punk kinda world, non benders would only become more and more dangerous than in the previous eras. A skilled hacker or even just a insane guy with a modern gun could do a significant number without the avatar being able to do anything about it. The Avatars may be be incredibly skilled in terms of reaction time and phsyical ability but I doubt they can bend faster than a bullet can hit them and they certainly can't just stop a hacker by bending unless they can somehow either lightning or metal bend the computing systems without destroying them in their entirety.
I was thinking more along the lines of a villain similar to Amanda Waller or a villainous Nick Fury. The Avatar would be considered a risk to mankind and the organization would be there to keep him in check and destroy him if he ever ‘disagreed’ with the status quo.

Avatar Cycle doesn’t care about national and geopolitical boundaries. It’s purely spiritual. That’s why the next Earth Avatar can be born pretty much anywhere. Though it seems like the Fire Nation is still isolationist to some degree. The others are more diverse. Particularly the Western Coast of the former Earth Kingdom.

Though then again with the Earth Kingdom having a history of tradition and corruption it could just repeat itself. Siblings and Sandbender should be done they're fascinating ideas for an Avatar of the Earth element. Poverty should indeed be a theme as that is quite a big deal in a more modern world. I agree a Cyberpunk setting would fit the next Fire Avatar...That just makes perfect sense. The Earth Avatar should be in a Cold War type era. They just have to set up that Korra died young...Which could be a plotline in it of itself.

I may have an idea on how to find the next avatar. As we all know when the avatar dies he or she will reincarnate into the next nation in the cycle and Aang was born a few moments after Ruko died. So the easiest way to find the next avatar is to every parent in the earth kingdom bring their new born babies who were born moments after the passing of Korra, and have the elders along with the white Lotus to look and check with one baby at a time to figure which baby is the avatar.
Since they would have more detailed birth certificates and death certificates, they could just check all the entries of people who were born right after Korra died in a more modern way.
7:00 That is an interesting thought, perhaps the Earth Avatar will be born somewhere rural he or she will have grown up somewhere far from a modern city and thus there's no paperwork involved. A cool twist would be the Avatar being discovered when he or she is well of age and an adult having to strive to become the world's new Avatar in contrast to Aang and Korra who were kids when they were discovered.

At the least they know what land they are from but with people moving from location to location since the world has been unified makes it a lot more difficult. Imagine the next earth bending avatar is located in republic city or the fire nation hell even the water tribes. But hey technology makes it easier for both the sages and potential threats like Zaheer.
If there were 100 births when korra dies about half will be nonbenders so there will be 50 benders dividing that by 4 for each type of bender then there will be twelve or thirteen potential avatars
Remember that the temples are still working, and when Korra may rip all these temples would shine, and therefore sages can take note of the time it happened, so they have a slightly better chance of contribute to follow the time a child is born, and even the parents would take time of when their son is born, unless they are very poor and dont have any chance of giving birth on a casual place like a hospital or a house
Earth avatar to be a slave kid who works for a tyrant Earth bender.would make an interesting story. He activates his abilities due to bulit up stress and at the time of his parents or someone he cares about dies .
I don't think straight cyberpunk avatar will be a thing. There could be some elements of cb, but I think they'll want to keep most of the steampunk LoK had. I'd guess the main aesthetic will be smth of the 90's mixed with our current technology, in 2020's.
Certainly can be a possibility. But some inside sources claim the early direction right now is cb. But we must keep in mind that this is early development. So concepts such as settings change all the time.
Re: Clocks. In our world, mechanical clocks have existed since around 1300 AD. Water clocks date back to 1500 BC. Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place sometime between what would be our 1830 or our 1870 (they don't run on our time, but that roughly matches with tech that they're playing with. So they've had the tech for mechanical clocks for 500 years at that point. Roughly. And had other time measuring devices for several thousand years. I don't think clocks should be as instrumental as you're making it sound.

the avatar is always born roughly one week after the last one dies. All dependant on raava's ability to bond with the soul of a fetus the same could be said with vaatu's dark avatar.

My source is the shows themselves but the bit about vaatu's dark avatar is an assumption given the harmonic convergence is a thing but the avatar and the dark avatar would do the song and dance for balance every 10,000 years though.
Raava never makes a one-week claim to Korra in the show. Aang doesn't even comment on the statues in Season 1, Katara does. And she (nor he) make any such claims. Roku and Kyoshi never say anything like that either. 10,000 years between Harmonic Convergence is well established though and outwardly stated in Korra Book 2.
@@AntoineBandele raava does make such a claim though to Korra when lorra asks about the avatar cycle it's within the explanation of the first avatar how he broke the ancient oath that was agreed upon by raava and vaatu at the dawn of all things.

It would still be cool to have a Twin Avatar state, where Raava was still reincarnating the Avatar, but Vaatu also was reincarnated as the twin of the Avatar. They both showed powers of being the Avatar, but as they grew, one became started to grow darker and the good avatar had to save their brother.
Just had this idea from what you were saying about the hospital records; what if there were a case of the Avatar accidently being switched at birth with another baby that was born around the same time? I mean, even today with all the progress they've made in hospitals in real life, it's still been known to happen.
I feel like that follows too closely with the Kyoshi novels. Those are considered canon so having a case of a mixed up earth bending avatar might be over done
@@rachelgray7133 Well in this case it wouldn't be the Avatar being misidentified again, just a case of them going with a completely different family. For example, imagine being born to say a family of Firebenders and, since there might be no evidence of Firebending potential as seen with the test Kyoshi went through in the novels, they grow up thinking they're a nonbender when suddenly they do Earthbending. It would raise some questions.
They advanced the series pretty far into the future. They were basically in the industrial age. Assuming korra lives to at least 50. I think it’s safe to say the new avatar is going to be in modern times. And if that series does well they will end the avatar cycle with fire nomad technically the same nomad it started with
4:10 The small scale of the world of Avatar is not based on the asiatic populations of today… there’s no reason that would even correlate to the fictional world the show takes place in. The small scale of the world was determined by fans based on the amount of time it took to travel location to location in the original series, especially in Book III, where characters seem to traverse halfway across the globe in the matter of a couple days.
This isn't a theory or anything, just my own jumbled ideas. Each avatar seems to have their own struggles when mastering the elements, and I think the next avatar should follow suit. But to contrast the previous two avatars, I think it'd be interesting to have an avatar who isn't well versed in martial arts. Instead, the avatar relies on weapons such as specialized bending guns. The avatar more easily learns all 4 elements. But can not properly control/master any of them due to the lack of bending forms (martial arts). On the plus side, the avatar also learns side abilities relatively quickly (sand, lava, ice, lightning, etc..). With minimal bending ability, this avatar instead focuses on letting the technologies do all the heavy lifting when it comes to bending. For this kind of plot, I think it'd be best for the avatar to not be discovered.. No one knowing who the avatar is could be interesting. People hunting the avatar, and the avatar keeping it a secret. Perhaps, the avatar is born in the slums (cyberpunk). Every avatar should have a team avatar.. for this avatar, one of the team members could be a chi blocker. Just a random idea. Some ideas for the cyberpunk technologies.. I was thinking maybe involving the spirits, spirit portals, etc.. maybe some kind of spirit energy (like with the spirit energy cannon), could be used in some/most of the technologies. Maybe with spirits being more common, people could have spirit companions even. Could even have a plot where some evil organisation is exploiting spirits to produce spirit energy packaged up to be sold. Along with the technologies that run off of it. There are so many possible ideas.
Imagine the next Avatar is a member of the Beifong family I only day this cause in the image of the next avatar if you look closely at his Sillowet you can see metal shoulder plates so he might be a metal bender
Yeah I thought of this idea upon rewatch...Toph trained two twinkle toes it would be funny if her bloodline birthed another. Also it would be interesting if it's Bolin's and Opal's grandkid...Having Metal, Lava, Fire and Air within the tree. Really diverse background and direct connection to Korra and Aang being extended family.
I honestly wouldn't mind if the next Avatar series was like in Legend Of Genji, which was cancelled right at the start unfortunately. Finding the avatar is going to be a challenge because of how huge the earth kingdom is. I just don't think a cyberpunk setting would fit, there won't even be the need for an Avatar when every country has tech that compensates for bending all 4 elements.

An example is how Sokka (the Non Bender) was Water Tribe and focused on weapons (Boomerang and Space Sword). That is what I mean.

Kinda excited about avatar being from the Earth Kingdom. Like the Earth Kingdom is in a mess right now in fact it's not really a kingdom anymore and it's now a bunch of countless independent cities and states. Also hopefully they bring back the dark avatar since both of them will be earth benders would be cool if they are friends or siblings.

Problem with this theory is the mixing. Mix couples are having kids now. So an earth bender avatar can be born from a water bender mom and earth bender dad for example. So it will be pretty hard. Child could be born in any nation.
idk if the people (even the sages) in the world of Avatar are aware of the fact that a new Avatar is born at the same moment the previous one dies. Maybe that's not even the case. Or has it been confirmed at some point ?
I hope it doesn't jump from 2nd industrial revolution in LoK all the way to cyberpunk, while I find the science of bending really interesting (if bending is genetic, could there be a future where children are genetically modified to be benders of more than one element? Could an avatar be genetically engineered?) I think the Avatar series would benefit from a modern world (post WW) , rather than a postmodern, contemporarry, or even futuristic world.
so if we equate korra's time with basically the industrial revolution then we might get a digital revolution for the next avatar for the age of discovery and such.
I don't know if 'the avatar and the firelord' actually confirms that the next avatar is born asap after the death of the previous one. It is just as likely that that cut from death to birth was just a flash-forward, to make the connection obvious, 'cinematically' speaking. It could jut as well have been that there's weeks if not months in-between those 2 moments, but considering that there was just kind of a pause in their consciousness due to non-existence that period of time was just jumped over because why would you need to show that. I hope what i typed here makes sense to anyone else but tl;dr I don't think the show actually implies that the birth of the next avatar happens instantaneously after the death of the previous one, and I haven't seen any good evidence for that beyond a cut that could just as easily been for cinematic convenience.

@@The_Magman yea but she's merged with Wan's soul specifically. From what we understand she doesn't 'choose' someone to become the next avatar, she just hitches a ride with the same soul every time as that soul reincarnates into it's next lifetime.
I'm personally not a fan of a modern day setting for Avatar just yet. I think a 1960s, 70s or even 80s (preferable not that far but it's better than 2000s or 2010s). As far as futuristic Avatar; again, I'd rather it not just yet. But, I would like to see a Sandbender Avatar (preferably more suitable to the series than Legend of Genji). I also would like them to actually be living in a Sandbender Commune when we meet them. If not that, I'd like to see an Avatar born in Zaofu. I personally don't feel like I got my fill of Zaofu.
I still don't get how korra can live so long, if it's set 100 years after LOK that means that she lived till 105 which doesn't make sense considering All the stuff she went through should have taken a huge chucnck of her life.
Yeah the Earth should be like Cold War Era at most (literally the world divided between rival political ideologies across the globe that started with the drifting apart Earth Kingdoms). The next Fire Avatar should be in the Modern/Future with Lightning really coming in handy (plus they've always associated the Fire Nation with Tech and Progress).
@@JewDevelopedWisdom450 The longest lived Avatar was 230 years old (Kyoshi) and the shortest was 33 (Kuruk)...Though they weren't natural lifespans each had unique circumstances causing those outcomes. Then Aang was 60 something but technically 160 counting the time frozen in ice. Really what time we see is literally just based on when Korra dies and how old the Earth Avatar will be. She could die young...She loves to fight and is certainly the kind of person to sacrifice her life to save others. Or she could die of old age something around 70 to 90 which would make it a modern day setting. I think she should die young...Assassinated to create a plotline for the next Avatar to solve. Then they're a Young Adult...So inspired by the 50's or 60's.
What about the possibility of them being an orphan and the earthbender avatar being soutside of the earth kingdom, thus the bending they learn is different, and they are shocked in thinking the cycle is out of whack lol
The only problem is you don’t really know the next avatar is born shortly after the death of the previous one. Even though we see it happening that way on screen I don’t think it actually happens that way in real time, since it doesn’t take into account the pregnancy’s 9-month period. The soul would have to transfer prior to the birth since the baby is technically alive prior to the actual birth (not getting into a political or religious thing but since we’re talking about spirits here…). Also if we’re considering actual eastern beliefs about reincarnation there can absolutely be an in between period between incarnations. I don’t see this method actually working, sorry.
The new avatar wouldn't be set in a modern cyberpunk world but rather a world that coexists with spirits as Korra had opened and left the portals open between the spirit and human world. This would effect the course of technological development in society, They'd have more of a holistic and spiritual approach to healing and medicine rather than pharmaceuticals and modern medicine than that of what we have today in real life.
The moment roukou died the avatar spirit transfered into the new born baby Aaang , regardless of rokou dying aang would have still existed as a person who was already alive so how is this considered as rokou being re-born when aang was already conceieved and was already developing inside his mother when rokou was still alive .

How about an earth avatar whose earth kingdom mom/ dad died when they were young, and they are totally raised in an water or fire government, they could either not be found by the white lotus until they re adults or they cannot connect with their ,,born“ Element due to rejecting the entire nation and culture because it would be to painful for them remembering their deceased parent

Impossible for them to be evil as their soul is literally the representation of Light and Order. At worst they could be a Misguided/Well-Intentioned Extremist fighting in the name of stability. Morally Grey is the worst case scenario. It was said in LoK that there were 12 Lion Turtles...We only saw one for each known element including Energy. So there's 7 unknown turtles who could potentially gift other powers or already did.
Well, eventually one of them would manifest other bending abilities. But it could be that the twins are both trained under the White Lotus until the other is “discarded” and becomes jealous.

The other without anyone noticing eventually joins an organization like the red lotus revivalist organization (I don't know what happened to that organization after the main 4 were taken out). Everything you do meaning nothing with most reactions being passive.
Even more interesting is if they're weak in every bending style...Because of Korra being poisoned in the Avatar State and not being connected to any Avatar but Korra. Or just because of some personal reason. It would be a balance thing too as Earth represents Strength and Korra was so physically strong...But Ironically the Earth Avatar is weak and perceived as powerless. Then perhaps because of that they're overlooked with the world believing there is no next Avatar or the masters give up training them. Then go through the series and they start slowly learning they're only weak with base elements but somehow powerful in sub-bendings like Sand, Lightning or Combustion, Lava or Metal...Then for a dark and further ironic twist Blood or if not for ethical reasons than Plant/Swamp (who live in the borders of the former Earth Kingdom). Becoming a Fully Realized Avatar that is one of if not the most powerful one when they're needed the most. Before then it's all about being powerless in an empowered world (like Non-Benders) that no longer even wants an Avatar...Mentally and Emotionally breaking down the current Avatar but they just don't give up showcasing what real Strength is.
What if, after Korra, the spiritual energy leads to the creation of an information network: the Avatar became a thread and thus, after Korra we have the next Avatar dying young. People are desperately searching for a new Earth Avatar, everybody knows about the ancient tests and those could be faked. The children who displays two kinds of bending is declared the next avatar After the harmonic convergence random people became masters, a girl born in the fire nation (daughter of a earth bender and a powerful politician from the fire nation) she develops two powers: fire and earth. She is ready to become the Avatar, she was trained. The new avatar coming from the fire nation is a concern; but she is not the avatar, the real one is a fire Bender from the South Fire Nation (the nation of the tribe of the sun)
The creators seem to be keen to keeping the elements separate genetically but I totally think with greater diversity they SHOULD deal with crossover elemental powers.

The Earth Kingdom had already chosen the wrong avatar, so the could be cautious about the choosing of the new one; the tests could be easily tainted (in an information era Avatar’s world) so the one and only real test is bending two elements. If the Earth avatar died young, that is the worst Aang scenario, so the fire Avatar should handle a world divided and tainted by power 👀

Hmm...great theories. Personally, I had hoped the "new" earthbender would be one of the ones before Yangchen. Yes the modern setting would be interesting, but I feel like Korra already went that direction. I know it's already been confirmed etc that the story would be after Korra's timeline, so this is just wishful thinking on my part.

Nope. What I'm referring to is the Avatar Spirit. Raava was unnamed in the original but she was referred to as the "Avatar Spirit" as early as Book 1, Episode 3 of the original show and then brought up again in the Library episode in Book 2.
@AntoineBandele My man the "avatar spirit" at that point was just that a spirit, it wasn't a God that had to hold down another God of evil that became one with a human spirit, it was just the avatars spirit that was a bridge between both worlds. You'd need alot of drugs and leaps in logic to go from book 2s interpretation of "special spirit" to GOD OF ALL THAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD IS INFUSED WITH YOUR SOULLLLL. And taken from the later Buddhist philosophy and the like, that would later be reinforced it'd probably of been a better idea for the first avatar to have fully gained a higher Enlightenment and instead of doing in Buddhist culture what would be severing ones spirit from the cycle to stop reincarnation and ascend, to willingly choose to reincarnate again and again to guide humanity and spirits to be better and find balance NOT have the God of good be inside our mc
Slight correction, Kyoshi wasn’t misidentified because she didn’t pass the relics test, she actually chose 4 correct toys, she was overlooked for being bigger then other kids her age and with no parents to verify her age they believed her to be too old to be the new avatar and she fled believing the kindness of picking 4 toys to be a trick. So actually the relic test was spot on

No, she just ran out of the room in fear after selecting one toy, and didn't complete the test.
As for why the Earth Kingdom's geomancy test wasn't working, it's because that particular test was designed on the premise that an Earth Kingdom Avatar would be living in a fixed position; Kyoshi's parents were thieves, and her mother was a former Air Nomad with a sky bison, so they were constantly on the move.
What will also make it easier is if Jinora is still alive when korra dies she can sense raava's energy.

I thought almost the same exact things - Even in the future of Avatar, documenting the lives of the entire global population will, more or less, be on par with our real world, making finding the next Avatar's easier. The next element of the avatar may not even be born in its nation of origin.
However, I believe that by that point, the world will be so globalized and interconnected that everyone will have some earth bender heritage in their background. I think nearly everyone will have some degree of each element in their lineage.
I think that would make finding the Avatar, even in modern time / the future, more difficult.
I think they should have the first season be about finding the next Avatar who is desperately needed because of global conflict or incoming instability...But they can't easily find them and even giving up when the warfare starts. Proceed to the warfare years in the making and not only is one Avatar found but another is presented as well (Fake Puppet for political reasons or a Reborn Dark Avatar destined to bring about further chaos). Leading to confusion from both candidates and the entire world...Then to further create drama and tension have it be unclear which is the Light and which is the Dark/Fake because they're both aggressive and war hungry being loyal to different competing powers in the world.
But instead of ending with them condemning or killing one another as the world leaders demand or either of them being in the wrong...By the second season have them both being shown as in the right and slowly but surely come together to bring about true peace and balance to the world. The new moral theme being about how it's no longer possible for a single Avatar to preserve the delicate balance but that at least two are needed. With a further twist being they're both Real Avatars as Twins who were separated at birth and each of them has a piece of Raava and Vaatu in them. Or that yes one of them is the Dark Avatar or Fake Avatar but it doesn't matter because they reject destiny and Vaatu's or the corrupt governments influence to be a good person.

Many many modern anime and even live action series and movies have played with anti heros and the themes of "no one is truly good or evil. It's all gray. It's all perspective. It's all misunderstanding and fear of the others".
The dark avatar returning but not being "pure evil for evil sake" would redeem the entire concept imo. As well as bending evolving to the point where it's easier than ever to take on the avatar/s.
Ordinary benders have fought and won against many past avatars. And during Korra's time, non bender could take on the avatar. Give bending and technology another century of development, and even the avatars raw power won't be as god like in comparison anymore.
That's how I always thought the avatar series should end. Not with one powerful demigod always patrolling the earth in new vessels, but each individual alive having a form of that power in their own hands.

Here’s the thing, what if the new Earth Avatar is born in somewhere far removed from the modern cities of the Earth Kingdom, like for example the Si Wong Desert? It’s possible that the Sandbender Tribes don’t exactly have precise paperwork’s like everyone else.
I know, I know but I just can’t move past Legend of Genji, I was fully invested in it. I mean they could have at least had Genji find out he was the Avatar before they cancelled it.

I liked the idea of an Avatar from the Si Wong Tribe but that (and the "Sand Box") were the few things I liked.
But it could also happen that the creators bought the Legend of Genji off because of its popularity and concept. Who knows. I'm not into thhe Legend of Genji because he seems like a more rebellious type of person, worse than Kyoshi and Korra, but that's just me and my conservative thoughts.

Wait, the guy that everyone said was the Avatar was actually not the Avatar!?!? And they got it wrong?? Genji would actually be the Avatar!!! No way that's so cool. When I read it I was confused at first because the main character wasn't who everyone was saying the Avatar was.
But a Sandbending Avatar is the best idea no way. Darn, I can't believe the Legend of Genji creators came up with such great ideas! I loved all the characters!
I sorta hope that the one theory that Avatars are cyclical in such a way that they fix the past incarnation's mistake while suffering their own tragedy is something that comes to fruition. The Earth Avatar could eventually fix the connection with their past lives or something with the harmonic convergence but have a failing that echoes down to their successor in the likes of Roku not being able to stop Sozin.
That all being said, I also feel that it might be better if we got more on past Avatars. Might just be personal taste, but the modernized elements never really sat right with me, but maybe that was the point?

They could easily do sth similar to the legend of Genji and the Kyoshi novels and have the Avatar misidentified.
You know the clocks are the biggest allies but also the biggest enemies. A sheer coincidence could lead to someone else be named the next Avatar because of their time of birth, while the real Avatar was just born in a non-advanced village (maybe even a sand tribe or sth)
Well, another Earth Avatar who gets misidentified... Genji was fanmade and after Korra, but Kyoshi is canon and the previous Earthbending Avatar [who was also misidentified]. It would be cool but perhaps would imply that the Earth Kingdom isn't very good at properly identifying the Avatar, which would be fine I guess if that was established.
My ideas for the next Avatar Show:
1. An overall main villain. Each season can definitely be focused on a smaller villain but it should all lead up to one big bad.
2. Have the avatar be able to do the op special bending techniques WITH EASE. This would allow an entire season to be about everybody questioning if they should kill the avatar or not due to the fact that they're too dangerously powerful. Blood bending is illegal, lightning & lava could easily destroy the walls of ba sing sei, you wouldn't even need to with flying, & everything gets amped up with the avatar state. That would honestly be a really good season.
3. Explore the fact that the people with the avatar are overshadowed. How do you not feel useless when there's an avatar around? And if this avatar is really OP, well, there's no way you're not getting overshadowed.

Ahhh, people or a person being jealous of the Avatar is definitely a very interesting thing too tap into. A lot of people believe that the place they're in is okay and they're good to accept where they are and not being the Avatar, but not everybody will have the same thoughts...
Someone might be very jealous of the Avatar for being able to bend multiple elements in general, even if he isn't OP. I can imagine the possibility that most people would be afraid of the power that the Avatar has or feel safe because of it. But I dunno really lol

I liked the idea of Korra's successor being a sandbender. I hope Avatar Studios takes that idea from Legend Of Genji. I also wonder if a dark avatar will be born at the same time as Korra's successor. Rava was pulled out of Unavatu after being destroyed, so it only makes sense that Vatu would regenerate out of Rava at some point. The soonest time where Rava will be without a human body to stop that from happening is while traveling from Korra's body to the body of her successor. Sure, that happens insanely fast, but Vatu regenerating from within Rava might slow it down a bit.
The creators said that won’t happen for another 10,000 years. Do it won’t be until then that that Avatar has to deal with that situation.

To counter that, because people are typically not confined to their usual nations AND the Earth Kingdom is already bigger than usual, it's going to be even harder to find the next Avatar.
i think the cyberpunk setting would be more fitting for an fire avatar, since he could perfect the art of lighning bending to hack into electronic devices.
That could be a companion. Doesn’t necessarily have to be the Avatar main character.
Genji could still do that, the whole shtick of being the avatar is being able to bend all four elements. Plus Kora proves sub elements aren't off limits when she becomes a metal bender.
Yeah, but the Avatar can learn Lightningbending at some point and do that, only it wouldn't be something he or she does before finding out he/she is the Avatar, which would be interesting. But it would be cool if one of the main characters was a Lightningbender who used it to mess up/hack electronic devices, or some other character role.
Maybe there's a group of people who do this and one of them separates, or perhaps he/she figured this out on their own and uses it keeping their identity a secret.
The Creators should make the next Avatar be Genji, I like the kid, the idea for his story is good
Even in modern times there's also cases of babies being switched at birth which could be interesting to happen to an Avatar. Imagine finding out that not only is your biological kid not your biological kid and that someone swapped them but also your kid is (or isn't) the Avatar!
Unrelated but something i'd love to see in an avatar series is an avatar with siblings. I wonder if they might be jealous or supportive if their sibling turned out to be an avatar. Also, an Avatar series set in a post-apocalyptic world like Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind might be a way to eventually keep the timeline moving forward without going too "in" on the tech and returning to those more earthy/natural roots.

So they'd be raising the biological child of the parents that ended up with the Avatar but when they found out the children had been swapped, the Avatar couldn't go to their biological parents, staying with the parents they grew up with and having the other child be part of their family too? Then it could be like the Avatar and the child that got swapped and raised by the Avatar's biological parents are siblings?

Hey antoine, great content as always.I've always thought that since there is so much spiritual energy maybe there could be energybenders in the new avatar series or we could see that when wan closed the portals there were still people there and they lived with the spirits for 10,000 years and developed energybending but not blasting it but rather bending the energy with substances like wood or trees or crystals or platinum.
And they would need to meditate on it and have a true heart and true mind to be able to have deep understand their own energy to connect with that of the substance they wish to bend and when they are connected they will be able to bend it rather than energy bending being a laser light show 😂.
It would also coincide with what the lion turtle told Aang about energy bending.
Maybe we could even have an energybender avatar after the earth avatar since Aang got energybending from the lion turtle thus making energy the 5th element in the cycle after Earth.
I've thought about this idea for so long and would love if you talked about it.

Energy wouldn't be the "5th Element". If anything; it's more like Element 0. Or the Precursor to the Elements.
Having Energy as the 5th Element would mean only the Avatar and those of a Nation of Energy could Energybend. Which wouldn't be the case.

well, in a futuristic cyber-punk kinda world, non benders would only become more and more dangerous than in the previous eras. A skilled hacker or even just a insane guy with a modern gun could do a significant number without the avatar being able to do anything about it. The Avatars may be be incredibly skilled in terms of reaction time and phsyical ability but I doubt they can bend faster than a bullet can hit them and they certainly can't just stop a hacker by bending unless they can somehow either lightning or metal bend the computing systems without destroying them in their entirety.
I was thinking more along the lines of a villain similar to Amanda Waller or a villainous Nick Fury. The Avatar would be considered a risk to mankind and the organization would be there to keep him in check and destroy him if he ever ‘disagreed’ with the status quo.
I want the next villain to be revealed to be a hacker with no fighting prowess whatsoever. Making the economy crach and such.

Avatar Cycle doesn’t care about national and geopolitical boundaries. It’s purely spiritual. That’s why the next Earth Avatar can be born pretty much anywhere.
Though it seems like the Fire Nation is still isolationist to some degree. The others are more diverse. Particularly the Western Coast of the former Earth Kingdom.

I agree a Cyberpunk setting would fit the next Fire Avatar...That just makes perfect sense. The Earth Avatar should be in a Cold War type era. They just have to set up that Korra died young...Which could be a plotline in it of itself.

I may have an idea on how to find the next avatar.
As we all know when the avatar dies he or she will reincarnate into the next nation in the cycle and Aang was born a few moments after Ruko died.
So the easiest way to find the next avatar is to every parent in the earth kingdom bring their new born babies who were born moments after the passing of Korra, and have the elders along with the white Lotus to look and check with one baby at a time to figure which baby is the avatar.
Since they would have more detailed birth certificates and death certificates, they could just check all the entries of people who were born right after Korra died in a more modern way.
7:00 That is an interesting thought, perhaps the Earth Avatar will be born somewhere rural he or she will have grown up somewhere far from a modern city and thus there's no paperwork involved. A cool twist would be the Avatar being discovered when he or she is well of age and an adult having to strive to become the world's new Avatar in contrast to Aang and Korra who were kids when they were discovered.

At the least they know what land they are from but with people moving from location to location since the world has been unified makes it a lot more difficult.

I don't think straight cyberpunk avatar will be a thing. There could be some elements of cb, but I think they'll want to keep most of the steampunk LoK had. I'd guess the main aesthetic will be smth of the 90's mixed with our current technology, in 2020's.
Certainly can be a possibility. But some inside sources claim the early direction right now is cb. But we must keep in mind that this is early development. So concepts such as settings change all the time.

Re: Clocks. In our world, mechanical clocks have existed since around 1300 AD. Water clocks date back to 1500 BC.
Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place sometime between what would be our 1830 or our 1870 (they don't run on our time, but that roughly matches with tech that they're playing with. So they've had the tech for mechanical clocks for 500 years at that point. Roughly. And had other time measuring devices for several thousand years. I don't think clocks should be as instrumental as you're making it sound.
It's not just about clocks. It's about the ubiquity of clocks. And in particular, clocks (digital clocks) in a modern hospital setting.

My source is the shows themselves but the bit about vaatu's dark avatar is an assumption given the harmonic convergence is a thing but the avatar and the dark avatar would do the song and dance for balance every 10,000 years though.
Raava never makes a one-week claim to Korra in the show. Aang doesn't even comment on the statues in Season 1, Katara does. And she (nor he) make any such claims. Roku and Kyoshi never say anything like that either. 10,000 years between Harmonic Convergence is well established though and outwardly stated in Korra Book 2.

It would still be cool to have a Twin Avatar state, where Raava was still reincarnating the Avatar, but Vaatu also was reincarnated as the twin of the Avatar. They both showed powers of being the Avatar, but as they grew, one became started to grow darker and the good avatar had to save their brother.
The creators said specifically that Vaatu will not reemerge within Raava until the next Harmonic Convergence in 10,000 years.

I think it’s safe to say the new avatar is going to be in modern times. And if that series does well they will end the avatar cycle with fire nomad technically the same nomad it started with

The small scale of the world was determined by fans based on the amount of time it took to travel location to location in the original series, especially in Book III, where characters seem to traverse halfway across the globe in the matter of a couple days.

This isn't a theory or anything, just my own jumbled ideas.
Each avatar seems to have their own struggles when mastering the elements, and I think the next avatar should follow suit. But to contrast the previous two avatars, I think it'd be interesting to have an avatar who isn't well versed in martial arts. Instead, the avatar relies on weapons such as specialized bending guns.
The avatar more easily learns all 4 elements. But can not properly control/master any of them due to the lack of bending forms (martial arts). On the plus side, the avatar also learns side abilities relatively quickly (sand, lava, ice, lightning, etc..). With minimal bending ability, this avatar instead focuses on letting the technologies do all the heavy lifting when it comes to bending.
For this kind of plot, I think it'd be best for the avatar to not be discovered.. No one knowing who the avatar is could be interesting. People hunting the avatar, and the avatar keeping it a secret. Perhaps, the avatar is born in the slums (cyberpunk).
Every avatar should have a team avatar.. for this avatar, one of the team members could be a chi blocker. Just a random idea.
Some ideas for the cyberpunk technologies.. I was thinking maybe involving the spirits, spirit portals, etc.. maybe some kind of spirit energy (like with the spirit energy cannon), could be used in some/most of the technologies. Maybe with spirits being more common, people could have spirit companions even.
Could even have a plot where some evil organisation is exploiting spirits to produce spirit energy packaged up to be sold. Along with the technologies that run off of it.
There are so many possible ideas.

Yeah I thought of this idea upon rewatch...Toph trained two twinkle toes it would be funny if her bloodline birthed another. Also it would be interesting if it's Bolin's and Opal's grandkid...Having Metal, Lava, Fire and Air within the tree. Really diverse background and direct connection to Korra and Aang being extended family.
I honestly wouldn't mind if the next Avatar series was like in Legend Of Genji, which was cancelled right at the start unfortunately. Finding the avatar is going to be a challenge because of how huge the earth kingdom is. I just don't think a cyberpunk setting would fit, there won't even be the need for an Avatar when every country has tech that compensates for bending all 4 elements.

Problem with this theory is the mixing. Mix couples are having kids now. So an earth bender avatar can be born from a water bender mom and earth bender dad for example. So it will be pretty hard. Child could be born in any nation.
idk if the people (even the sages) in the world of Avatar are aware of the fact that a new Avatar is born at the same moment the previous one dies. Maybe that's not even the case. Or has it been confirmed at some point ?
I hope it doesn't jump from 2nd industrial revolution in LoK all the way to cyberpunk, while I find the science of bending really interesting (if bending is genetic, could there be a future where children are genetically modified to be benders of more than one element? Could an avatar be genetically engineered?) I think the Avatar series would benefit from a modern world (post WW) , rather than a postmodern, contemporarry, or even futuristic world.

I don't know if 'the avatar and the firelord' actually confirms that the next avatar is born asap after the death of the previous one. It is just as likely that that cut from death to birth was just a flash-forward, to make the connection obvious, 'cinematically' speaking. It could jut as well have been that there's weeks if not months in-between those 2 moments, but considering that there was just kind of a pause in their consciousness due to non-existence that period of time was just jumped over because why would you need to show that.
I hope what i typed here makes sense to anyone else but tl;dr I don't think the show actually implies that the birth of the next avatar happens instantaneously after the death of the previous one, and I haven't seen any good evidence for that beyond a cut that could just as easily been for cinematic convenience.
With modern birth rates, it’s more likely to be instantaneous. Unless the notion is that a reincarnation happens during conception, not birth.

Genji is used as reference. There is no canon Earth Avatar after Korra yet, until that stuff gets announced.
I'm personally not a fan of a modern day setting for Avatar just yet. I think a 1960s, 70s or even 80s (preferable not that far but it's better than 2000s or 2010s). As far as futuristic Avatar; again, I'd rather it not just yet.
But, I would like to see a Sandbender Avatar (preferably more suitable to the series than Legend of Genji). I also would like them to actually be living in a Sandbender Commune when we meet them. If not that, I'd like to see an Avatar born in Zaofu. I personally don't feel like I got my fill of Zaofu.
I still don't get how korra can live so long, if it's set 100 years after LOK that means that she lived till 105 which doesn't make sense considering All the stuff she went through should have taken a huge chucnck of her life.
Yeah the Earth should be like Cold War Era at most (literally the world divided between rival political ideologies across the globe that started with the drifting apart Earth Kingdoms). The next Fire Avatar should be in the Modern/Future with Lightning really coming in handy (plus they've always associated the Fire Nation with Tech and Progress).
@@JewDevelopedWisdom450 The longest lived Avatar was 230 years old (Kyoshi) and the shortest was 33 (Kuruk)...Though they weren't natural lifespans each had unique circumstances causing those outcomes. Then Aang was 60 something but technically 160 counting the time frozen in ice. Really what time we see is literally just based on when Korra dies and how old the Earth Avatar will be. She could die young...She loves to fight and is certainly the kind of person to sacrifice her life to save others. Or she could die of old age something around 70 to 90 which would make it a modern day setting.
I think she should die young...Assassinated to create a plotline for the next Avatar to solve. Then they're a Young Adult...So inspired by the 50's or 60's.
What about the possibility of them being an orphan and the earthbender avatar being soutside of the earth kingdom, thus the bending they learn is different, and they are shocked in thinking the cycle is out of whack lol

The only problem is you don’t really know the next avatar is born shortly after the death of the previous one. Even though we see it happening that way on screen I don’t think it actually happens that way in real time, since it doesn’t take into account the pregnancy’s 9-month period. The soul would have to transfer prior to the birth since the baby is technically alive prior to the actual birth (not getting into a political or religious thing but since we’re talking about spirits here…).
Also if we’re considering actual eastern beliefs about reincarnation there can absolutely be an in between period between incarnations. I don’t see this method actually working, sorry.

The new avatar wouldn't be set in a modern cyberpunk world but rather a world that coexists with spirits as Korra had opened and left the portals open between the spirit and human world. This would effect the course of technological development in society, They'd have more of a holistic and spiritual approach to healing and medicine rather than pharmaceuticals and modern medicine than that of what we have today in real life.
The moment roukou died the avatar spirit transfered into the new born baby Aaang , regardless of rokou dying aang would have still existed as a person who was already alive so how is this considered as rokou being re-born when aang was already conceieved and was already developing inside his mother when rokou was still alive .

It was said in LoK that there were 12 Lion Turtles...We only saw one for each known element including Energy. So there's 7 unknown turtles who could potentially gift other powers or already did.

That’s a possibility. We haven’t yet seen an Avatar who struggles with their bending.
Even more interesting is if they're weak in every bending style...Because of Korra being poisoned in the Avatar State and not being connected to any Avatar but Korra. Or just because of some personal reason. It would be a balance thing too as Earth represents Strength and Korra was so physically strong...But Ironically the Earth Avatar is weak and perceived as powerless. Then perhaps because of that they're overlooked with the world believing there is no next Avatar or the masters give up training them. Leaving them to fully focus on training their mind and body then also having to rely heavily on technology like many others.
Then go through the series and they start slowly learning they're only weak with base elements but somehow powerful in sub-bendings like Sand, Lightning or Combustion, Lava or Metal...Then for a dark and further ironic twist Blood or if not for ethical reasons than Plant/Swamp (who live in the borders of the former Earth Kingdom). Becoming a Fully Realized Avatar that is one of if not the most powerful one when they're needed the most. Before then it's all about being powerless in an empowered world (like Non-Benders) that no longer even wants an Avatar...Mentally and Emotionally breaking down the current Avatar but they just don't give up showcasing what real Strength is.

What if, after Korra, the spiritual energy leads to the creation of an information network: the Avatar became a thread and thus, after Korra we have the next Avatar dying young. People are desperately searching for a new Earth Avatar, everybody knows about the ancient tests and those could be faked. The children who displays two kinds of bending is declared the next avatar
After the harmonic convergence random people became masters, a girl born in the fire nation (daughter of a earth bender and a powerful politician from the fire nation) she develops two powers: fire and earth. She is ready to become the Avatar, she was trained. The new avatar coming from the fire nation is a concern; but she is not the avatar, the real one is a fire Bender from the South Fire Nation (the nation of the tribe of the sun)
The creators seem to be keen to keeping the elements separate genetically but I totally think with greater diversity they SHOULD deal with crossover elemental powers.
@@AntoineBandele yes!!! Even if bending is not genetical but cultural, the harmonic convergence could lead to semi-avatars. The Earth Kingdom had already chosen the wrong avatar, so the could be cautious about the choosing of the new one; the tests could be easily tainted (in an information era Avatar’s world) so the one and only real test is bending two elements. If the Earth avatar died young, that is the worst Aang scenario, so the fire Avatar should handle a world divided and tainted by power 👀

When Aang died by Azula in ATLA, did Rava move to a water bender and then come back to Aang when he was brought back to life by Katara?
Surely there would be some small time frame between a new avatar being born after the old one.
When Azula briefly killed Aang, Aang was still "in limbo" so Raava never left his body quite yet. Really... it can be chalked up to plot armor.
Azula hit him while in the Avatar State, so Rava should have been dying with him and the spirit water brought both of them back.

Yes the modern setting would be interesting, but I feel like Korra already went that direction. I know it's already been confirmed etc that the story would be after Korra's timeline, so this is just wishful thinking on my part.

@AntoineBandele the idea that the representation and personification of everything "good" was not in book two what u maybe confusing is the idea that the avatar is supposed to keep balance that's it. They don't need the God of goodness in them for that at all
Nope. What I'm referring to is the Avatar Spirit. Raava was unnamed in the original but she was referred to as the "Avatar Spirit" as early as Book 1, Episode 3 of the original show and then brought up again in the Library episode in Book 2.
@AntoineBandele My man the "avatar spirit" at that point was just that a spirit, it wasn't a God that had to hold down another God of evil that became one with a human spirit, it was just the avatars spirit that was a bridge between both worlds. You'd need alot of drugs and leaps in logic to go from book 2s interpretation of "special spirit" to GOD OF ALL THAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD IS INFUSED WITH YOUR SOULLLLL.
And taken from the later Buddhist philosophy and the like, that would later be reinforced it'd probably of been a better idea for the first avatar to have fully gained a higher Enlightenment and instead of doing in Buddhist culture what would be severing ones spirit from the cycle to stop reincarnation and ascend, to willingly choose to reincarnate again and again to guide humanity and spirits to be better and find balance NOT have the God of good be inside our mc
