Nice job! I just tried this for something to do, I pulled a putter grip and reinstalled it on a different putter, worked great. I have installed new grips on many full sets, putters, wedges and drivers. Always did it the old way, cut the grip off, installed using solvent. Using air to pull the old grip was fast and easy. Thanks for the detailed information.

talk about turning a simple operation into rocket science with expensive equipment. I use the air compressor I keep in the trunk of my car with no other equipment. I also use this method to remove the old grip so no need for a hook blade.

Why wouldn't you use the air to remove the old grips and keep them intact for another club?

It is ten times faster then re applying tape and using solvent. However you should never pull a knife blade towards yourself and you can also save the grip that is on the club with the tool.

Never cut towards yourself, especially with the hook blade. I understand this might be for the beginner and trying to not damage the shaft but if you do that, keep your body out of the way. Sometimes, the hook blade can slip since you are not use to the angle or the type of grip or the sharpness of the blade.
Instead, try putting the golf shaft under your left arm with the golf club head behind you. The grip will face the floor. Insert the hook blade, into the tip of the grip and slowly let it cut through. Do not ever cut towards yourself!

Kudos for the Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (do a search on google)? It is an awesome one off guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got amazing success with it.

considering in my profession i frequently use solvents and different types of adhesives i can say without any doubt-
NOT using some type of solvent will prevent the tape from adhering properly to the rubber.
personally i use an " adhesive promoter " ie 3m 94 adhesive primer on the shaft before applying tape.
then i use the same- 3m 94 instead of the mineral base adhesive solvent when installing the grip.
my grips are on so firmly you can't possibly re use neither the tape nor the grip ever again. they are both destroyed during the removal process as they were once bonded as 1 piece. it's a little extra work during cleanup, but you can really feel the difference during play.

These grips are designed to not use solvent or tape. At this point their grips have proven themselves. I usually use golf pride but I have to re grip another set I have and will use these grips.

You can do it that way, yeah. As said in the video, you can remove all the tape and slide it on. Leaving old tape on or adding masking tape is just an option to build up the grip and make it thicker

Bmx and mountain bike grips go on without tape just air or a quick drying lubricant like alcohol. The friction of rubber holds plenty tight. Only downside is once they get worn and allow moisture to get in they start slipping like crazy. I imagine this is also much more efficient if you're puting on hundreds of grips a day like this guy. Plus you can use your clubs as soon as you're done

I just installed a pure grip with no tape at all. I did use solvent however. I can't see it coming off. One thing I will note however is that the end of the shaft could be sharp. Tape can make it less sharp. That could matter if you have a hard time getting it on or you do like I did and give it a final floor wack. All that did was make it a hole puncher:)

Great question! You can, provided it's a PURE Grip installed using our installation method. If a grip is installed with tape and solvent, it has to be cut off and any tape residue removed before regripping.

Im failing to see the benefit here over solvent to be honest. its not like the tool helped you save the old grip, avoid stripping damaged tape or even made the method "tapeless" as advertised. You just used air to slip a new grip over old tape that hasn't been reactivated with the solvent.
Are your grips designed specifically to adhere or grip to old tape or no tape ? would the method truly work with no tape ?

    • @PkGam
      @PkGam 7 років тому

After taking off the old grip like you'd do when changing grips, you can then change grips at will. So you could try different grips on your clubs without wasting any, nor using any solvent or tape. You could even change grips at will to change the feel of your clubs for whatever you're looking for on a given day if you have different grips.
Dunno' if their grips are specifically made to do it without tape/solvent though. I presume not because I seen others use a similar air method on Golf Pride grips among other brands. So I guess rubber has a tremendous amount of friction in general to the point when it's on, the tension and the grip on the inside keeps it on.

I have re-gripped the traditional way for years. I'm sorry to say that I don't see such a MAJOR breakthrough regarding the installation process with PUREGRIPS. What percentage of Americans own the correct specified and required air compressor? Then you need adapter fittings. A great deal of the labor in re-gripping a golf club occurs in the removal of the old grips and possibly the tape. Obviously, you still must execute that part. You still need a vice and the often overlooked yet crucial "pick tool". Then once set up, basically the air compressor will give you a boost (I GUESS) from the sliding method without it. Honestly, picking up a container of mineral spirits and a roll of double sided tape is WAY cheaper than this PURE GRIPS system with all of its necessities. Don't believe me? Watch the video. This system is good to sell consumers with no re-gripping experience as they will be seeking the easiest method. However, the truth is that this system isn't much of an improvement at all.

+John Rambo I believe he did it slowly so you can see. In my shop i use a standard air compressor (not the fancy installer tool he had) to install grips via air in about 15 seconds. I prefer the standard double sided tape when stretching a grip, however, because it adds more friction. I've had some in the past that have retracted after stretching when no double sided tape is used. Quality over quantity.

But removal tool requires a lot of force if tape is old and tend to leave residual tape inside grip. Not easy for many people to use.
