A confident Xu Xin is a very dangerous player. Props to Kenta for always being polite and cordial whether in victory or defeat though, a true sportsman

What an artistic performance by both the players...!!! So many creative shots and the overpowering Xu-Xin in the last set is just so tough to face for any one in the TT world. Congratulations to Xu-Xin!
@@decadence8473 Yeah, but what happened next? Xu Xin went on to win this so far even game handily and started the next game 8-0. When someone steals Xu Xin's thunder, he wipes them out. Ask Lin YJ who surprised XX with a deep fast straight line serve which impressed the hell out of everybody but provoked Xu Xin to go on to win the next 4 points and the deuce from a 3 point deficit, and then the whole match. Winning the applause against Xu Xin is disrespecting and waking up the sleeping tiger. Unless you're Ma Long, then you would win Xu Xin's applause too.
@@syzygy6769 I am not downplaying Xu Xin's excellence, but matches are especially great when bright and unexpected moments happen, and 8:27 to me is the brightest piece of this game.
@@decadence8473 I am not debating the brilliance of this move. I was only pointing out my observation about Xu Xin in cases of his opponents' spectacular and memorable moves. Such moves are exciting and extremely impressive and very few will notice and remember their costs when Xu Xin is provoked. But they are certainly worth the losses of the matches as they become highlights of careers and table tennis history.
A lot of people know of Harimoto as *the* close-to-table attacker but for me Matsudaira has always been the original. Atleast when I started playing tt. Really happy with his performance in this tournament. XX too big though. Can’t stop the cloudwalker but it’s nice to see Matsudaira’s style up top
Mordecai Davidson Matsudaira indeed has a lot of kind of strokes. Almost complete. But, this time he tried to implemented Harimoto's style, strike the ball earlier, but a little bit to late.
matsudaira was more of the close to the table defender. He always had good touch close to the table, but it looks like he has gotten a lot more aggressive now and it's working well with him
Both close to table, but different style. Matsudaira is more of a technician and overall more balanced, Harimoto tends to focus heavily on offense and out-slugging the opponent.
Matsudaira is more of a blocker.Sometimes he opts for a control shot even when it's not necessary which leads to errors.Harimoto just hits off the bounce.
Xu Xin returns to world number one. Table tennis world needs him. His playing style is so sexy. I am so surprising because of his modern backhand performance in this match. May be, it is one of the first matchs, in which he really uses something, which is worthly called STABLE modern penholder backhand techniques, in rallies, even in rallies far from the table. His very noticeable improvement of backhand from his previous final match vs Liu Dingshuo in Australian Open 2018.
And suddenly XX reminded to the whole world what a hell of a player he is. Sooo many spectacular points from both players during the whole tournament, and especially in this match.
After watching many of Xu Xin's final matches, it seems there is this downhill effect on many of his opponents that will do really great in the beginning but they either run out of steam or are overly frustrated because they are playing out of their comfort zone, plus they are insanely tired physically and mentally.
Best example: 2020 German Open vs Ma Long! 1st set very close, Xu Xin Wins it with a behind the back shot, - by the fourth set it seems like Ma Long isn’t even trying anymore. Xu Xin is an incredible player. as creative as Koki Niwa but with Fan Zhendongs Power and Ma Longs Consistency. So much fun to watch! Hope he will inspire more young players to pick up Penhold again :)
It's so refreshing to see XX change his mindset and play reasonably more aggressive. I said reasonably because he's done it with calculated risks. Remember those two crucial long serves into the backhand corner. He also uses his backhand more naturally. No more disappointed face when he misses a backhand counter, and no more unnecessary steparounds. This actually saves him energy for the big shots when the time comes. Then I know he's got great confidence. And that "Come on" outburst after tough points seems to relieve him as well. These two trophies will surely boost XX's confidence to compete for 2020, but a rivalry with ML and FZD would be the last test.
@@DimaKats2 I know bruh. It was just cute to drop it then. It's a famous brand too. They had this cheap ass rubber 'Friendship' back in the days too. At least that's my recollection.

not only did they play the spectacular rally, but also they paid good respect to each other during the end of the game. kenta is really well mannered and carrying good sportmanship. congratulation to xx.
This is a total change of style on Kenta, I mean very nice job! I'm glad he is using all of his talent and touch on a more offensive style. He can improve even more!
matsudaira is one of my favourites, i wish he could show some dominance over players, he plays marvellous, but is always catching upto his opponent and never the other way round. so it already limits his chances of winning. the chinese have always some tricks up their sleeves which they show in decider final/decider sets.
just right after 8:27 , I thought Xu Xin was saying to Kenta, "you have took my role of showing entertainment...”, and he revenged in 10:39 and 10:54 .😂
Matsudaira played great 1st two games. He played nearly perfectly, caused Xu Xin many problems. He only faded in the last game when Xu Xin got much more confident after going up 3-1. And we know when Xu Xin feels confident, he can play another gear higher.
I love XX and is so happy to see him doing so well lately. It does sadden me to see how Kenta has fallen recently. I hope he is able to get back up again.
it was a very satisfactory match to watch. Matsudaira had several spectacular points, Xu Xin is great as always. I was hoping Matsudaira would win, but he turned out to slightly lack stability when put against such a skilled rival as Xu.
I only buy the Singles Final ticket. I don't know whether Matsudaira could survive until SF or not but I really hope for him to at least enter SF. I mean it will be pretty boring to see FZD or LGY at the top even though I know they will.
Great match. Not sure why Kenta.M kept feeding Xu.X's forehand, on average it looked like 70% of those feeds lost him the point as Xu.X just worked the feed back with an attack or a long push to Kenta.M's backhand and then went into auto touch shot mode until a kill shot was presented. Great to see Kenya.M back on form and doing his magic lob and smack down special we know him for, fantastic. These new balls seem to be bringing back style play and cooling down pure power play.
Speed is useless without spin in table tennis unless you use short pips or mostly punch, the spin brings the ball down, so with that in mind, a ball which cannot spin as much as the previous generation of balls will not be able to be loaded with as much speed as the spin is not there to bring it down. So, the close to the table players and defenders now have a slightly slower ball to deal with and the power loopers can't finish off the point as before and will now have to deal with the opponents who are able to use their speed and spin against them by playing close to the table and driving power loopers away from the table at nasty angles too.
xEnder, yes, you have a point there, short pimples which have a flatter trajectory could take advantage of these new balls, which in theory would be a pain for loopers as they would get even less spin to work with and very direct balls.
Yes, I agree. I noticed it too. He seemed to struggle and was playing into the lefty's forehand out of habit without making the necessary adjustment. However it must be said that Xu Xin played amazing here against an in form opponent and made him look a little out of his depth. Xu Xin looks to be the best player in the world right now to me.
2 of my fav in their prime (2nd prime for kenta?)!!! Man missed them both. When Kenta just blocks every shot and when XX just cliud walks all around the table doing impossible shots... TT is just not the same without these 2😢. Also 2018-2019 XX was just an absolute beast, its like as long as it gets to mid distance rally he almost always will win the point, only way to beat him is some flicks close to table...
