Seems to be the consensus among the older generations. They think because they’re older, they know more than you regardless of how many years of experience you have when they have zero
Had the three birch bunch with one about to touch house power line. HIRED A PROFESSIONAL (imagine that). Came with a crane and the largest residential chipper. They took each tree whole and fed it directly into the chipper. One hour and they had setup, chopped, chipped, swept, and evac'd. Best $1400 I ever spent. It was an amazing thing to watch and the speed with which it was done.

A bucket truck would allow a Sawyer to make a cut from below about 30 feet up the trunk. That cut would cause the tree to buckle at a point above the nearby blocking g tree removing g the block. The long part of the tree would drop and swing into the stand of pine where it would either stand or fall all the way to the ground or could be recut to fall away from the power lines

I yelled at him to go away, so loud that my sister could hear it half a mile away, but he kept coming, slowly, and all the time I could hear the three settling. Then, when he had almost reache me, he turned around and walked back, still slowly!!! He was safe though, the three didn't fall till I had hit the wedges a few times.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video 😂😂😂 First of all, you sir have a miraculous amount of patience! 😳. I would have told the people to shut up and stay out of the way or I am quickly leaving this circus... Second, documenting this kind of thing the way you did was epic. Third, i think if the owners were your only driver option... the wife would have been my choice 😂 Good job! Not a full proof plan, but it was probably the best course of action with the limited time you had. I’m still blown away by your patience with the guy hahaha!
I agree with that. I become hostile in these situations when people don't listen. My insurance won't cover their stupidity. Also to keep in mind, if its not a document written by an attorney, a release of liability will likely not work- your insurance would still be liable
Patience has wonderful rewards, and often when you least expect them. I've seen it often in these kinds of circumstances, though I used to seriously struggle with that in my younger days. Sad, but for some folks, and sometimes only "at times", not always, it's just like a monkey wrench has been dropped into the works, and a little bit of kindness can help clear it up faster and easier than a lost temper. But a lost temper can make Everything go much much worse and for far longer, with deep chain reactions. The Kinder way used to drive me up a wall. It could have been far worse, this time. The older man COULD have been a whole lot more like Lucille Ball! LOL! I thought most of the way through the video that it WAS going to be like having her there, and something truly awful was about to happen. This man has to have had a lot of experience with that, for him to trust the old man with his own truck, that way. Real gutsy move.
I had a friend ask for help putting in a fence, well I get there and the neighbor had dropped a maple 90 degrees to the cut. I hope you charged the customer a piss pot of money for that Emergency Job. He would have paid a lot of money to repair the power lines & his fence. This is the problem with big trees on your property. They keep growing bigger to the point where they become hazards
Yep, charge one customer a shit ton of money just because they screwed up in some amature way and you will get your name speared all around town for life for it thusly making many others not want to hire you for anything then ultimately leading to more ammature level mistakes being done by others who would have hired you before, but know better now, for your actions. Believe me, there are countless guys out there including myself who love few things more than calling out greedy SOB contractors for what they are regardless of what happened justified or otherwise. Also why I charge flat rate time regardless of what I am doing for who and why whether its an emergency or not. It's the only honest, fair and friendly way to do business. People make mistakes, don't get stupid and greedy towards them because of it or you will pay for it later.
@@tcmtech7515 I agree that the "idiot tax" is generally not a good way to do business, but there's a difference between "I need it done in a week, let's schedule a time" and "I need it done yesterday". Fast, Good, Cheap pick any two. If I worked in the trades, I'd charge like this: Pre-scheduled work done from 9AM to 5PM is done at a flat rate. Emergency work I'm available 24/7 unless I'm already on another job, but the minimum bill is $150, unless it's a national holiday in which case it's $300 minimum fee. Scheduled or not, if it's not during normal business hours I would charge flat rate +50%. This isn't done because I want to make more money, it's done because you're gonna have to pay me extra to disrupt my normal life. Basically, you wouldn't ask a plumber to unclog a toilet for you, but you would if the house was flooding.
Good work! I'd love to have you in my area if I need a tree guy. This reminded me of interactions I've had with homeowners when I fix their electrical installations. It makes me cringe when they put faith in youtube and their ability to get lucky when they could potentially sell their dangerous house to an innocent family before it ever has a chance to burn down. It's good to see you keep God with you. Thank you for the quality content.
This was a great demonstration of skill and planning! I came across this video by luck but as soon as you said you will split the money with God... im subscribed for life!
I love these modern suburban woodsmen who claim they have “felled timber” since their early days. Until they have to call a professional and then they still act like they are the expert.
These modern, suburbans, think they are everything. I mean they really tough it trying to keep deer out of there yards and stuff, and it's really tough when you gotta drive ten minutes to walmart.
Lmao, right, because ole August here has NEVER made a mistake. He is perfect, just like Jesus. Seems all you "tree fellers" are perfect. I don't think I've ever run into a profession with so many "know it alls" and egotistical pricks. For some reason, tree fellers think what they do is some sort of sorcery and only they, and they alone, have the ability to cut a tree down properly. What is most hilarious about it is the rest of us sit around laughing about how hard you think a job that would take less than a month to master is!
I've felled a lot of trees, pretty fair at putting them down where I want them. When it came to the large maple next to the street corner with lines passing in both directions across the corner from it, I never hesitated in calling the pros. There is a time and place to recognize your limits. Nice work!
Good grief, man, where's your sense of adventure? If I chickened out and called for the paid help every time things got a little dicey, I would .......still have an undamaged garage, a square house and the love of my neighbors!

I can see all these people saying "I have left jobs because of people like that multiple times. It hasnt affected my profit" man o man, how wrong you are! All that couple needs is a mature tradesman to show up right after the first baby leaves, act professional like you, and they will be talking about THAT tradesman and company to their friends and family WHILE putting you and your company down. Its defo affecting the business if a tradesman acts like a baby!
I was thinking along the same lines. There's a reason some businesses (like this guys) do VERY well, while others do just ok, barely scrape by or worse. I'd call this guy in a heartbeat off this video alone! In fact, I've got some trees that need to go and I live in a residential area.....
Glad you got it on video. Good stuff. "Rate his Hinge" Looks like one of those new-fangled 3D hinges. Saw on 3 sides, and let the tree decide which direction it wants to fall. 👍😁👍

Great resourceful work on a precarious situation. I swear I thought to myself right about the 3 minute mark - ""Throw a line over it and pull it" right before your verbalized the same thing. I'll admit to having done something I'm not qualified to do and screwing it up, but when I get the guy I should have called to begin with to fix it, I shut up and let him teach me what I did wrong.
I have a couple of trees I'd like to take down that are close to the neighbor's fence. This video reinforces my resolve not to be "that guy." I'll call a service when the time comes. LOL
I've managed to avoid being "that guy" and I'm not likely to be doing anything that gives me a chance to become "that guy" anymore. I have been the guy who has to fix things after "that guy" which might be why I avoided being "that guy".
wouldn't been surprised after this if the guy didn't want to pay him, and said something like "well that was simple, I don't think it warrants how much you are charging me."

Well, if the results of the 2020 election stick, then the powerful international Marxist elites will begin implementing their sweeping societal changes(ie. Had the three birch bunch with one about to touch house power line. HIRED A PROFESSIONAL (imagine that). Came with a crane and the largest residential chipper. My father did that - he heard the saw stop when I took the hammer to wedge the three over, and walked over to ask, if it had broken down.

The biggest problem I see in trying to just walk away is that he would have had to open up the gate and drive through the drop zone.
The Kinder way used to drive me up a wall.

I had a friend ask for help putting in a fence, well I get there and the neighbor had dropped a maple 90 degrees to the cut. As I look over I see a ratchet strap about 10 feet up the trunk (that’s what they’re puller). If I worked in the trades, I'd charge like this:
Pre-scheduled work done from 9AM to 5PM is done at a flat rate.

After watching a number of tree felling videos, I bought an MS311 with the intention of cutting them myself.
Nope, nada, nyet, ain’t happening.
Thanks for reminding those of us who should, to stay in our own lane.
He seems like the type that would try and talk the price down when he is handed the bill also
that is why you state the price before the job is started and get a signature.
Hey August! Great handling of both the tree and the Ole Man ... :-)
Rate his hinge 😂 what hinge is more like it, I’d give it a negative 5!
I was thinking the same thing. Amature hour for sure
I don't know what the hell you call it
That wasn't a hinge...that was a fringe 😂
Brilliant done buddy.........and handled the old guy with patience I can only dream of! I enjoyed watching this.
Really glad to hear that He's your friend!!! All the best from Canada
Im surprised he didn't floor it in all the excitement and level out his house lol....ohhh my imagination runs wild haha
Homeowners triple back cut flares explode on impact. Sick stump shot
This video turned out a lot more interesting than I thought It was lol pretty entertaining
Great resourceful work on a precarious situation. I swear I thought to myself right about the 3 minute mark - ""Throw a line over it and pull it" right before your verbalized the same thing. The big tree acting kinda like a fulcrum, and the old man got that truck pulled just enough.
30 years in the business for me and still learning-appreciate your amazing video work, commentary, techniques and insights.
Good to hear the understanding of the fulcrum 👊🏼
@@AugustHunicke yes, thank you.
gracious of you to come and save the day - and you involved the homeowner who caused the fail - that's great
We’ve all been that guy at some point ... lol
Uh no
And the one that answers no don’t worry you just haven’t had your day yet. Lol
Love how big bad Tree Man rolls with a pink balloon in the backseat... lmbo.... liked the vid bru!!!
wouldn't been surprised after this if the guy didn't want to pay him, and said something like "well that was simple, I don't think it warrants how much you are charging me."
Wow Patience of a saint. Heart of a warrior! Well done August!
Just plain amazing! The sizing up of the situation (including technical & liability), the critical analysis of options (including whether or not to get involved) followed by the thoughtful planning & execution (with some luck thrown in for good measure). For me, all signs of a true professional such has August Hunicke. Having worked on several disaster recovery efforts, I find myself saying that "you can only see the STARS at night"! Here's another good example.
All I kept on hearing was “ Shake hands with Danger.”
Sorry too hear about ur ballon escaping
Inquiring minds want to know; why was the old guy cutting down a perfectly good tree?
Probably because it was growing on top of that other tree.
WIfe probably go ton is ass to do it but nobody wants to admit to that first part of the story. Been there but didn't play her game on who actually started what. :P
Watching too much ax men.
Tin Can Watching ax men , guy thought , I could do that , gonna get my chainsaw fired up dear it can’t be that hard .......oh shit !
firewood's getting expensive and he had more trees than he needed. ?
Beautiful!! The science involved, and the art of figuring it out on the fly!
You are an amazing human being! When he started giving me advice, after he cut what looks like two wedges, and all the holding wood, I would have left! You're too nice sir!
