    Why didn't you consider keeping the original mask (which seems comfy) and just cooling that one?

      I was going to say just strap that thing over the the gel mask

    Loved the video, thanks for sharing!
    I wanted to mention that while this isn't an incredibly engineered solution like yours, my wife (who has chronic migraine) has found pretty consistent relief from a product called "The Headache Hat" - it's a bunch of mini ice packs sewn into a soft pack that can stay frozen for 30-45 minutes a go. We currently have three of them so she can rotate on bad days!
    Even so, I'm glad to see your project, because I may borrow your PID code for a kiln controller for a kiln I'm working on building for her 🙂
    Thanks again for sharing and hope she can get some relief!

      Yeah halfway through me building this she found some sticky patch that stays cold for 12 hours she likes.
      As far as the kiln. Just get a pid temp box and ssr off Amazon they are like $30. But if you like the path of sorrow like me ;). You’ll have to mod / test the pid stuff. I never tested it. I had it running off a standard relay (was lazy and didn’t order a DC mosfet or SSR) so I had to make some jank logic around the PID system to work with a binary relay.
      TLDR; I’d look elsewhere for a PID kiln example.

    How can such a channel have so few subscribers? Great videos!

    I suffer from migraines myself, so I am going to have to build one of these. I have an Ender, pump and tubing (leftover from my automated skylight greenhouse) so this is going to be my next weekend project. Thank you!!

    Me (having migraine) Sparks and Code: 'here is a cooling thingy I made that pumps cold water'
    me: 'migraine also makes very sensible to any light, and... sounds'

    Maybe use a peltier module

    Does it need more weight? I ask because she seems to be holding it against her face. I would suggest making independent slides to cover the eye holes. As someone who suffers migraines daily I found an eye patch/eye covering over one eye improves my migraines dramatically and simply.

    I get migraines every so often, mostly due to something I ate. and definetly when I eat to much chees made from cow milk, goatcheese is fine.
    Also, a smell improvement to the system. using a pump creates air bubbles and might build up pressure. wich might cause the lid hard to open in certain outside temperature. A small release valve on the lid to release that pressure. it's a go to solution if you're going for a system that will create cold instead of using the icecube bucket. 🙂

    Combine this with hyperspace pirates cryo chiller. 😂

    Nice ... never knew a cold mask could stop headaches.... maybe there is an underlying condition that could be treated permanently?

    • @SparksandCode
      @SparksandCode  2 роки тому +2

      The cold mask doesn’t stop her headache. It just relieves some of the pain. Yeah we know what’s wrong and working towards a permanent solution.

    Would TPU work?

    • @SparksandCode
      @SparksandCode  2 роки тому

      I've never printed TPU, it's on my list to try. It would probably have been easier to make it fit her face since it is flexible. Yeah, I'd assume it would work if you can make it water tight. I checked in the PrusaSlicer project for the mask in the GitHub repo so you can see what worked in terms of settings for PLA.
      You could incorporate channels in the print to further distribute the cool water evenly and make custom coolers for other body parts like shoulders, neck, etc.
      That'd be cool. If you try it let me know if it works.

    • @thedamnone
      @thedamnone 2 роки тому

      @@SparksandCode You don't need the whole thing to be TPU, just a small shim between the face and the PLA mask.
      If I were to improve the design, I would change the return fitting to a pass-through and let the tube go to the bottom of the tank - it will be quieter. To make it last longer I would insulate the tubing; I assume the tank is already insulated.

    Genetic algorithms? You fancy pants! We need a project that will use a GA. Maybe something you can give a hint to like a starting form so it's not a billion permutations. I didn't realize you'd need a super computer to figure out a solution using GA.

    • @SparksandCode
      @SparksandCode  2 роки тому

      The GA wasn't the problem it was OpenFOAM. Probably due to my inexperience with the case configuration too. I have some wild ideas on how to use the framework for later projects. Ones I'm willing to rent some AWS time to solve.

    Why not just use the existing mask and just attache the tubes to that instead of making a less comfortable solid one?

  • @Mack_Dingo
    @Mack_Dingo 7 місяців тому

    Why don't you make a Salt based PCMs with water sodium sulphate and sodium cloride freezing point of 18c then put it in the eye mask.

    Have you considered a peltier cooler to get rid of the water tank?
    Crypto has crashed and the GPU market has recovered, you can get anything you want for MSRP now, time to get a real computer.

    • @SparksandCode
      @SparksandCode  2 роки тому +1

      No I hadn't. I'll have to look into that. I don't know anything about them.
      Yeah, I noticed that recently. I've been looking and dreaming.

    • @thedamnone
      @thedamnone 2 роки тому

      @@SparksandCode You still would need the water tank for temperature stability and to keep the fans away from the face. What is the required BTU/h that you calculated? Convert it to watts and multiply by 10. That's the total requirement for Peltier elements. For Peltiers to be efficient, you need to run them at 10% power. They can be efficient at more than that, but only with small temperature differentials, not tens of degrees C. Also, never regulate them with simple relays, always modulate the voltage.
