I showed this video to my father, the first man to ever ride a wakeboard in South America. It wasn't even called wakeboard, and I can't remember the name. The board was (is, still have it) shaped in a similar fashion to a surfboard, but way bigger and bulkier. And there were no boots, just straps. He told me how him and his friends didn't know how to even get on the board, so they had to lunch laying down like in a normal surfboard and when the boat was going fast enough, they would proceed to stand up and get the straps on. He brought the board from a friend in cali. He is in his 60's now, and when I show him all these videos he gets more amazed at the progression of the sport he fomented. I've got pictures of him riding that board on an old boat, and another picture of the first jump made with that board. And then there's me, a selfish fuck riding on a friend's mastercraft, trying to get another 180 to my 720's, trying to land the so fucking impossible double backflip, or adding a salad grab to my tantrum. I LOVE WAKEBOARDING. And seeing it progress this much gets me to my heart, as I feel that i'm part of the soul of it, and it's history runs through my veins. Love you pa, love you watersports. You will be the things that i'll miss the most if they get away from me
The Skurfer...the first board i ever road too. Made by Tony Finn and another guy i think. which turned into Liquid Force. Now he is the North American rep for Unit Surf Pool. Good History.
I dont wakeboard but that was sick. He's got good style, looks like he's snowboarding. That back lip from flat was sick I'd imagine its's hard to pop that high.
79 people really thumbed down this video. Tell me it was an accident. All the brutal wrecks Raph took to produce this should make people humble. This is the exact boost many of my young riders needed to reignite their original passion in wakeboardering. Kudos to Red bull for spending the money to make such a great wake flick. Keep on keepin on!
AmazingGryphon - no, no... that's something totally different. Though that would potentially help change the public perception of that word, since it would no longer mean the other thing.
This is awesome. I wish I lived near a lake where I could wakeboard often but I've only done it a few times and I'm pretty good at it. Almost got over the whole wake on my second day out but couldn't quite make it.
I was a good snowboarder at one time hitting super park and was pretty good hitting rails. It only took one small lapse and I hit my face on a rail like these and ended up with $7K in reconstructive dental work. This guy is amazing!!! So Smooth!
It is not a good end for you Man... At least you had $7k ... Here is a good advice for the rockies ... use a motorcycle helment when you are riding the snowboard normally or on a rail.... and then you will be a pro and then you can take the helment or if you prefer it just keep it.... Peace :D
you're an idiot, they're talking about the style of wakeboarding... when did you ever see people doing urban on a wakeboard 5 years ago? almost never. this is the new norm in wakeboarding so yes this is the future of wakeboarding.
Brendan P no sir, youre an idiot. If this is what everyone is doing then it is the PRESENT. And to me, this looks no different than any other wake boarding video. Sorry not everyone wastes as much time watching them as your dumb ass. Do the world a favor and grow the fuck up.
Oh yeah, super risky falling into water. ahhh scary.... Not gifted at all, save that term for something more impressive . Something like an olympic sport which takes thousands of hours of practice more than this unskilled bloke.
nothing has brain washed me, but watching my mate hit his head on plywood get knocked unconscious and was left face down in the water until i got to him, he survived but with serious brain damage and a massive chance of a stroke later on in life
You no what, when i put that comment down i was going to put surfing and then i said ah forget it i don't feel like typing it again. But you are correct my friend because if there was no surfing there would be no skating.
I may be showing my age but former pro wakeboarder Eric Schmaltz predicted the future of wakeboarding would be a rail and kicker style park in an issue of Wakeboarding Magazine back in 95 or so. I remember telling my sponsor years ago in 97 that they should make a wakeboard that had a nose and tail that would allow you to do skateboard style tricks like 5-0's, etc.. on. He didn't understand and thought I was crazy. With that being said, rails and kickers are the future to promote the sport. The general public can never really differentiate between the complicated inverted tricks but you see some guy jump over a huge gap and you know it's difficult.
As someone who enjoys riding behind a boat (although not having done it for a number of years), I do hope that both stay readily available. I'm sure there will still be a lot of people who will enjoy going out on a nice butter calm lake, behind a powerful boat, wind rushing through your hair.. absolutely having a blast :) Both have their place. Rails and kickers (which I have yet to do) will popularize the spot; boating will likely stay popular (and awesome) :)
this video is very food directed, really cinematic.. i just don't like color correction, too flat and too desaturate.i'm a surfer so i don't know a lot about wakeboard tricks, but they're also amazing.
Honestly I kinda like the way they color corrected this. It gives it a certain vibe idk, it's different than all these colorful crap dub step edits. Not saying colorful videos are bad. But I'm pretty sure they made the video look like this for a reason, and I dig it
Not Twon Li. He's hating because of the music... He thinks RedBull is full of it, and the music directors are low lives trying to ride on the success of others, like the goddamn Mongolians.
watching this i wonder, why can they have some sort of harness belt around the rider's waist with bearings inside where he can spin his body 360 and the same mechanism on the hook that can vertically rotate 360 as well so his hands are free to do board grab etc
Wakeboarding and snowboarding are suprisingly different, moving at a decent speed you also get some help from the water, as you push your back food down when you pop up the water helps to push the board back up - different when coming up the wake where extending your legs will help create height as opposed to popping on a snowboard

Love you pa, love you watersports. You will be the things that i'll miss the most if they get away from me
This also goes for almost every sport in the world, but yeah progression and technology are wonderful things
The Skurffer, not sure if the spellings right but I think that's what you're talking about.
Taito first man to ever ride a wakeboard in South America my ass
The Skurfer...the first board i ever road too. Made by Tony Finn and another guy i think. which turned into Liquid Force. Now he is the North American rep for Unit Surf Pool. Good History.
I love the fact that it shows him falling, even pros make mistakes. It's about learning from them and correcting them! Nothing in life is easy!
That hand slide at 7:11 had me saying out loud to myself “yesssss” keep doing what you’re doing man!
Raph is crazy, not very many people will ever be at his level. Full respect for his park skills.
I'd love to see a behind the scenes video on this..
I love this video, I saw it when it first came out and I come back and watch it every so often
Not a wakeboarder but this was mad crazy. So much dedication must have been necessary for a video like this...!!
@ 5:19 that was nice. not only did he kill the trick, he had the confidence to slap the fence!
Hands down to this collaboration!
I dont wakeboard but that was sick. He's got good style, looks like he's snowboarding. That back lip from flat was sick I'd imagine its's hard to pop that high.
Gmx

I firmly believe wakeboarding that actually involves wakes is by far superior and more entertaining..... however, that. Was. Impressive.
I agree :)
It's almost as if wakeboarding in a water & rail park oughta have a different name... since there are no wakes being boarded.
hybby Waterboarding?
AmazingGryphon - no, no... that's something totally different. Though that would potentially help change the public perception of that word, since it would no longer mean the other thing.
the board technically still makes a wake
hybby
So should we change the name of skateboarding to wheel boarding? They haven't used roller skate wheels since the 1960s
The first song is Holograms - Monolith
that was the greatest thing I've ever seen in my entire life
I’m back watching this video after 8 years and it’s still the best video ever
This is awesome. I wish I lived near a lake where I could wakeboard often but I've only done it a few times and I'm pretty good at it. Almost got over the whole wake on my second day out but couldn't quite make it.
cool
Best edit I've seen in awhile
Such a raw edit! Red bull kills it.... like always! This was on my Soul id feed this morning and I got so stoked!
I was a good snowboarder at one time hitting super park and was pretty good hitting rails. It only took one small lapse and I hit my face on a rail like these and ended up with $7K in reconstructive dental work. This guy is amazing!!! So Smooth!

so wakeboarding is the future of wakeboarding .....well done red bull
I don't know man, this was pretty progressive
you're an idiot, they're talking about the style of wakeboarding... when did you ever see people doing urban on a wakeboard 5 years ago? almost never. this is the new norm in wakeboarding so yes this is the future of wakeboarding.
Brendan P Im glad you can see into the future lol mellow out man and enjoy the ride. style is riding in a way that feels good to you.
Brendan P no sir, youre an idiot. If this is what everyone is doing then it is the PRESENT. And to me, this looks no different than any other wake boarding video. Sorry not everyone wastes as much time watching them as your dumb ass. Do the world a favor and grow the fuck up.
Jimbo Cee ..Shut up kid you know nothing.
I went waterskiing yesterday first time in 20 years going to try the wakeboard next weekend since I snowboard I hope it won't be to hard can't wait
this guy is one of the most gifted athletes I have ever seen! Insane risk.
Oh yeah, super risky falling into water. ahhh scary.... Not gifted at all, save that term for something more impressive . Something like an olympic sport which takes thousands of hours of practice more than this unskilled bloke.
id like to see you do half the stuff he did in this
did you even watch the video?
dont think he did
Def not, lot of risks involved, even just falling into water on a wakeboard has potential risks, let alone the stunts this guy pulls off.
not here to lay down the law, but, please put a helmet on, it would be a waste to lose what you have.
clearly you weren't wearing a helmet when your parents dropped you on you head when you were a baby.
nothing has brain washed me, but watching my mate hit his head on plywood get knocked unconscious and was left face down in the water until i got to him, he survived but with serious brain damage and a massive chance of a stroke later on in life
yeah haha i always agree with that one
***** Yeah so dont wear a helmet so we dont overpopulate? wat.
wacko234456 It's not what you think man don't worry about it
Best wakeboard edit ever
You guys sure make a good livin out of having fun. Good stuff
That dude shreds, don't get me wrong, but listening to bros wax philosophic is nauseating, and I'm from CA, aka bro-mecca.
SLVMBER Listening to bros wax philosophic? What does that mean?
+ejmac11 Ikr, I think wax means go on and on about a subject, I think, I'm just guessing based on the context he used
SLVMBER 😂😂😂
SLVMBER yeah leave mind blowing narration to David Attenborough.
Next level for sure. Just...wow.
Best cameraman ever
That double back roll at the end though!
One of the most entertaining extreme sport video's I've seen!
This is so rad~ gets me so amped to ride!
This totally inspires me. I'm 14 years old and a girl dreaming of being a pro wakeboarder.
make sure to get a second job as well. They don't pay too much
I want to be an anesthesiologist and do that on the side. I think I'll be pretty good with money :)
+Sarah Marsh are you using anesthesiologist as code for wakeboarding drug dealer hahaha
This is so gnarly.
Way to go raf! you are the master! félicitation dude
The cover shot reminds me of the Slim Jim guy. Rad video.
Excellent sound tracks
Man skateboarding is the grandfather to everything! Bikes wake boarding rollerblading scootering
what you meant to say is surfing is the grandfather to extreme sports.
You no what, when i put that comment down i was going to put surfing and then i said ah forget it i don't feel like typing it again. But you are correct my friend because if there was no surfing there would be no skating.
This video is incredible!
your own cable pull in random rivers...so sick. I'd love to see more footage like that. STREET WAKEBOARDING!!!
so much salt in the comments.
this video is rad. mad creative and dank tricks.
Effing Mind Blowing!!!
Now these guys are like real superheros to me!
Like ninjas but even more awesome.

This dude has the perfect mix of skills and balls!
I need to do this!!
but I suck at this kind of stuff 😂
Dang...Raph's got this figured out, and Raph is a cool name too!
He seems quite good at riding that slidey board thing.
Awesome video! Amazing skills.
This blew my mind. Wow..
I really enjoyed your video Mrnes :) dope
I’m a snowboarder and I’ve always wanted to try wake boarding but idk anyone with a boat lmao
Try Kiteboarding then ;)
Hey!! great video!! whats the first song??
great video for sure
Just awesome
Ive seen many wb-er videos but this Derome guy is the primo uno on youtube (therefore in the universe? :) ) so far.
I know where he was. St-Zotique, next to the go carting place and I can here a bit of a french accent.
this video is very food directed, really cinematic.. i just don't like color correction, too flat and too desaturate.i'm a surfer so i don't know a lot about wakeboard tricks, but they're also amazing.

also? sufing is not in the same league
Quenton Millstid All 'freesports' come from bmx or surfing. Wake boarding is just an evolution of bored surfers experimenting.
I appreciate that this video introduced me to Connan Mockasin
Absolutely unreal!
Does anybody else think this is the trippiest gnar they've ever seen?
Amazing. How many turns was that? 👏
This is fucking badass. All the people hating on here probably lack talent in anything lol
Everything*
James Delaurier that one's debatable. You might be right though, thanks
+James Delaurier what's the difference with the two words?
Not Twon Li. He's hating because of the music... He thinks RedBull is full of it, and the music directors are low lives trying to ride on the success of others, like the goddamn Mongolians.
I don't like when people talk about themselves in the third person
Not going to lie, I'd love to wakeboard. Especially with street elements.
If you aren't riding a wake then is it still wakeboarding?
+Cj Zeller well your still using a wakeboard, so in a sense you are still wakeboarding.
It's just waterboarding. I love waterboarding.
it is called cable boarding in my books and it erks me when people call it wakeboarding because I don't see no wake at all at cable parks
Action starts at 1:20
watching this i wonder, why can they have some sort of harness belt around the rider's waist with bearings inside where he can spin his body 360 and the same mechanism on the hook that can vertically rotate 360 as well so his hands are free to do board grab etc
awesome, same tricks since 1999
that was so sick
I wanna try this
Where does the cord pull him from when he does the grindes and waterfall jumps??
Either the jet ski or the chord pull machine forgot the name lol. Mental blank haha.
I don't know anything about wakeboarding but I guess its like a portable cable control that you can attach to bridges for example?
louphich ty bro lmao. i feel so dumb haha huge mental blank. whats worse is i have one, smh lol.
You get pulled by a winch. It's really quite fun to try in areas where you couldn't get a boat or jet ski
a winch *.*
how can 156 people can not like this !
AWESOME VID
Love this.
Insano! O esporte está evoluindo lindamente.
Michael Maiden this guy is pretty sick!! though you might like it x
lucy anne1234 I've seen it before it's amazing.
Great video
This dude is sick!
that was amazing
Totally gnarley!
Sick! Rad locations. Throw the a vest on though
he was in wake brothers in mtv was an actor right?
"congratulations on your evolution"
Awesome! Like it!!!
still so sick
amazing!!
How does he jump so high? Is it really easy to get pop on a wakeboard compared to a snowboard or is it that he's being pulled up by the rope a lot?
He's riding on a cable, you can load the cable and it will slingshot you into the air if you put enough load on it.
Is like when you ride power on snowboard, you have way more pop than in the snowpark
no.. just go REALLY fast into a park jump.. and dont absorb the take off with your legs and you will get booted to the heavens...
Yeah, that has happened to me trying to ride natural quarterpipes in my ski resort hahha
Wakeboarding and snowboarding are suprisingly different, moving at a decent speed you also get some help from the water, as you push your back food down when you pop up the water helps to push the board back up - different when coming up the wake where extending your legs will help create height as opposed to popping on a snowboard
love this
So sick!!!
2 DEEP 5 ME
420 deep 666 me
I love windsurfing.
imagine catching your fingers in the fence
One little piggy stuck in the fence... Two little piggies stuck in the fence..... Now I can't even count how many I think it's seven but idk.
i love wake boarding
That dude is nuts

surprised he didn't break the board at 3:59
