David Popper Experience #5/40 - Sebastian Diezig, Cello

- www.SebastianDi... - Technically, Popper No. 5 is trickier than one would assume at first glance. Also, as often the case with Popper, one needs to add an extra-dose of musical intention in order to make the piece sound less like a technical exercise. By the way, this quirky little piece was not easy to memorize.
On a more interesting note, this etude quotes from Saint-Saëns cello concerto No. 1, second mvt (1:37) and the very end of Rokoko Variations (2:28). Popper surely wanted to ready his students for these two pieces by putting them to work on two of their most delicate spots.
The "Popper Experience" is progressing at the predicted pace. If you like cello etudes do also listen to the "Piatti Project" (on this channel) which took place from 2014 to 2018.
This and popper no. 6 are both masterpieces!!!
