    I bought a reconditioned Ryobi kit 20+ years
    ago. The tools were used and used. I couldn’t kill them. Just this past summer the drill driver fell 20 feet onto the cement when I was building a pole barn. After dozens of falls over the years the reverse broke. I still use the circular saw in certain situations and the reciprocating a lot. Do I like the brushless tools better...yes... but the old blue tools were great tools

      Well a tough drill shouldn’t burn up at all. Also, the reason it burned up is because its a brushed motor. A brushless drill wouldn’t have burned. You can repeat this task with a 20V dewalt or an 18 volt Milwaukee and they won’t burn

      This thing most likely died due to too much current being drawn and overheating. These things where initially designed for NI-CD batterys, which outputted less current. This is partly because the voltage was lower. Sticking a lithium battery in there and putting it under full load for a continued duration is going to kill it.
      Id put in a 2AH max and not run it for long duration's

  • @Biaanca5036
    @Biaanca5036 3 роки тому +1

    I just restored one today and tested for this on a (normal)4AH battery.
    It's definitely true. This drill works great with a 1" screw-tip paddlebit in speed 1, and it most definitely _stops dead_ in its tracks in speed 2. Evidently its transmission gearings are not too powerful. It's old, overweight, made of inefficient materials, etc. etc.
    I can't get your exact results though because I don't own any 'generic' flat paddle bits. 👋
    However, no smoke with a 1/2" drillbit(dewalt black&gold, the cheapest). Yours was probably in worse condition I guess

    You should save the drill. This way you can cut the handle off and have a nice battery mount so if you want to modify a power wheels or whatever you can easily plug in Ryobi batteries
    Also they made those drills up to like 2006 2007. I think I’m 2007 that’s when they switched to the green.

      That statement is wrong from the start by saying The power these new batteries put out!! He didn't slam a 20v or a 24v battery in the old blue tool. Exact same 18 volts the old yellow and black ones put out! The new LI-ON's have more capacity is all. I just bought the new HP Brushless 1/2 inch impact and purchased a 4ah 18v +one HP battery and I use it in my old Blue and yellow Drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw with absolutely no problems at all.

    • @kevinragsdale6256
      @kevinragsdale6256 2 роки тому

      @@bradcliff7099 you do not understand how it works, these new batteries can push far more amperage to the tool that the old nicad could not deliver, it could easily smoke these tools if not careful or if its not programmed to throttle itself on these old tools

    • @JulianA-tr6pt
      @JulianA-tr6pt 2 роки тому

      @@kevinragsdale6256 Actually, he was pretty much correct, but you are too. Both comments could be explained a bit differently. Batteries don't "push amperage". A tool pulls current. You can't force current without increasing voltage and purposely overvolting a tool (which nobody does - if the batteries fit, they're the correct voltage). This is what Brad was trying to say.
      These new lithium batteries do, however, have less voltage sag under high load conditions which will allow the tool to draw more current when it wants to. In other words, the battery won't be the weak point when you abuse the tool. This is actually an ideal scenario, given the tool is up for the abuse. A weak 18V battery that drops to 10V when the tool is pushed isn't a safety feature - it's a weak battery. Even the old cells could burn up thin magnet wire. This all should've been considered during engineering the tool.
      When you see 2ah/5ah/9ah, that is capacity. It just so happens, higher capacity batteries tend to have less voltage sag, which allows a tool to pull the current that it's designed too. So when somebody comments on a tool vid about "slamming a drill with 9a!" they likely only have a partial understanding of electricity. Drills aren't resistive loads, but everyone should have an understanding of voltage/current/resistance, and how all 3 variables matter when a load pulls current.

      Jose Amador what I find funny is all his replies are the same as if he really cares to even read the comment and give a genuine response to the people who are really making him money! If your going to get into the tool reviews you got a lot of competition with other channels the least you could do is give a half hearted response 💀

      World Wide United. The drill smoked after doing a 1/2 hole. In the beginning test. There is no point to have it in the channel if it can’t do the simplest task. I bought this used for $10 during fall. So since it could do tests I said may as well kill it

    I bought a Ryobi pressure washer and it last me 2 houses. I bought a saw saw and it last me 2 weeks... I waste it my money. Those are not Profesional tools they are home owner tools 👎👎👎
