  • Pure Apnea's first world record ranking freediving event was held on 9 November, 2014! The event featured two competitions that took place simultaneously on opposite sides of the world. One was held in Brno, Czech Republic and represented the Northern Hemisphere. Roman Ondruj (Freedive World) organized this competition. The second competition was held in Cape Town, South Africa and represented the Southern Hemisphere. This competition was organized by John Daines (Cape Town Freediving) with the assistance of the local ‘Team Zissou’ freediving training group.
The event featured just one freediving discipline, Dynamic Apnea with Fins (Bi-fins). Pure Apnea has pioneered a new concept for world record freediving competitions… a single make and model of bi-fins to be used by all competitors! This levels the playing field amongst the athletes.
Rob Allen (www.roballen.co.za) graciously sponsored enough sets of their Rob Allen Scorpia fins for all athletes to use at the competitions. These fins are light weight, have medium stiffness plastic blades and come in wide range of sizes including XXS for petite ladies and XXXL for very large men. The Rob Allen Scorpia fins are also very affordable, which made it viable for athletes to buy a pair to use in training for this event. Thank you Rob Allen!!!
This video includes full footage of the Southern Hemisphere competition and (unfortunately) just photos and results from the Northern Hemisphere competition. Big thanks to Mark van Coller who shot the underwater footage! Also thank to all the judges, safety divers and support crews!
Massive congratulations to Petr Vala and Vendula Strachatova who set the first Pure Apnea Dynamic Bi-fin world records. We look forward to seeing them break those records again in 2015! Keep checking www.pureapnea.com for details of the next world championship.

Did my first ever DYN apnea with Bi-finns today and i did 50m with ease. Never been freediving Before. I have the video to prove it. 100m dont seam to be that much with some training? I was all tensed so i should do ok after 6 months of training?

Si está con la cabeza fuera del agua porque inicia la apnea con el tubo de respiración y lo tira?

Don´t understand why all competitors use the cheapest plastics fins on the market :P

+Václav Krpelík So that everyone can afford to buy a pair and train with them.

+Pure Apnea as for me - it is very stupid to give all athletes the same PLASTIC fins. it is like to make a sprinter 100 metres in sabo (japanese woman boots). results of this competition no matter.

I disagree. The only way make a competition like this (where most athletes will be self funded) fair is to eliminate the disparity between those who can afford and those who can't.

Anthony Plastic fins is nothing like carbon fiber. You could do maybe 20-30% longer with carbon fiber.
