  • Surprised the student with an engine out on a training flight. Its interesting to experience since its very hard to even tell there is a problem other than the control inputs. All gauges were still reading the same as when the engine was still running. In fact all the gauges matched the other running engines readings.
I try to surprise each student with an engine out at some point after they are flying safe and I know they can handle it and build confidence. The main reason I do it is to show how confusing a real engine out can be...a gradual loss of power would be even more confusing. # CPTC #TECNAM #P2006T ~

Student needs to get engine failure drills off by heart and faster..

dave jones, She kept directional control and stayed calm even when she had no clue what happened. Agreed she needs to work on her flow and engine out but that’s why we are practicing.
It’s also interesting to see an engine out in flight it actually didn’t show any difference on the gauges. She did great based on the amount of training she has.
Engine out procedures are pretty much the whole checkride for Multi and getting the flow down happens about 6-8 hours normally. Once they get their flow down it’s usually time to take the check ride.

Haha that’s an instant fail during a checkride - she maintained good rudder control though - twins are easy to flip during asymmetric flying if you don’t know what you’re doing
