this is completely incorrect. Ai Fukuhara uses medium pips on her backhand because it LACKS grip resulting in a much deader, no spin ball.
the surface of the racket has many pimples on it for more grip, so the back of the racket has more grip.

Why Ai so kawaii?
Feng Tianwei is quite familiar with Fukuhara's pimple backhand and she has little problem with it. Expected win for Feng but certainly a disappointment for Ai.
Womens table tennis looks like men's training on speed
