Well once we met up on our first date..as he leaned over to kiss me this song came on the radio.
Well it's been almost 30 years and we still are together.
He loves me more now than he did then...he is a wonderful husband and father.

What a pure voice and its such a pitty he can't use his special instrument anymore.
This is an original by Mark Knopfler. Randy does it justice, just because he is RANDY. I love country music and he is at the top of my charts.
my dad was a radio dj. I once told him that i wanted to hear a randy song. I woke up to him dedicating this song to me on a sunny fall morning because I had a soccer game later that day. I taped it on a cassette and have it to this day. He died not long ago. My best friend...what a nice memory it is. I never hear this song, but when I do, it reminds me of that autumn morning where my father played a randy travis song for me. Thank you.

after my husband became very ill we'd lay in bed at night and listen to this. we knew our love was gonna have to be strong enough for what lay ahead. we could feel what was coming. we were right. but when I hear this I still feel him laying next to me in the dark, holding on. bittersweet.

First time I heard this I came in at the guitar outro. It caught my ear like a fish on a hook and pretty soon I knew I was listening to Mark Knopfler. He's got taste and tone like no other. When I heard the whole song and caught Randy Travis' wonderful vocal I was spellbound. How in the world did this song keep from going #1. It outraced the pack it was in at the time by a mile. And M.K. is a pretty hard act to follow, especially singing one of his own original songs. Not too many artists could do it as well as R.T. has here, so it is also because he is so good, too, in my opinion.
I also love Mark Knopfler's rendition of this ( he wrote it).....takes you to another place. The A Night In London live version is pure magic.

Randy Travis sings this great he is a great singer. Knopflers' version is amazing as well and that is because the outro of his guitar solo can melt the toughest, hardest heart.

The guitar work on Mark's version is excellent by Mark's voice just can't compare to Randy's on this song. Mark's voice is so quiet, it's hard to hear the words in places.

I'd like to know, too. It's cool that the same guy that sang about "Money for nothing and your chicks for free" and doing the walk of life would have such a connection with country music. I know Mark's also cut songs that were later recorded by John Anderson and Mary Chapin Carpenter, but I didn't know he also worked with Chet Atkins and Emmylou Harris, and accompanied Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless on "Go Rest High On That Mountain" at the CMA Awards.
I love this song. Is there any way to create a version of it where the instrumental at the end goes on for two or three more minutes? It is so beautiful and evocative. IMO, this is one of Randy Travis's best (and most underrated) songs.

What a dynamite arrangement. The song and video footage evoke the saddest western ever. I love the Hammond B3 and steel guitar, and the instrumental at the end (although I wish it went on much longer so as not to break the dreamy mood the song inspires).

I met a woman in a time in my life that was very stormy. She is the most amazing woman I've ever met but the time we met was very in appropriate. I watched a movie with this song in and downloaded it and the words explained the situation perfectly. I can honestly say that I think about her everyday and I know I will love her forever.
