I think it’s either that, or maybe he got home late, and he was probably really tired from taking out the girl in the car, that either he forgot or he didn’t get a chance, to turn off the radio, or to change it back to the radio channel that Red had it on, and that’s why he probably forgot to turn it off, or change it back to the original channel. So whether or not if he was an amateur, I think it’s probably a common mistake for anyone to make, especially after they come home late at night, after dropping off a girl who they took out, or if it’s because of something else. I know Red's known for being a hard ass, but grounding Eric for a month seems a bit extreme. I mean, he brought back the car in one piece & it's still drivable
he lied about something red cared very deeply about, thats why he was pissed. I mean he did reduce the sentence to two weeks after learning the reason. I would not call taht being a hard-ass.

Eric could have gotten out of both situations. 1) "I didn't drive it, just started it up to fantasize about driving it" Not as beliveable but still get out of it 1) "To be fair, I wasn't home, so i couldn't have been drinking the beer"
The trouble with Eric and his levels of guilt, is it stops him from thinking on his feet in these situations. If that'd been my Dad and I, wen that radio came blaring on, I'dve said something like: "well, I sat in the car and played my music on the drive. C'mon Dad, you drive a corvette! U can't be angry at my being just a little bit curious!!!"
He was impressed that he got a date. That’s why he cut him some slack. He was proud of him! He still has to punish him for stealing the car, but he was glad he was showing some balls.
