Paying to play online feels like a scam, to me. I hope this goes away one day.
Part of the reason why most people are moving to Steam.
@@JapheigodNintendo would make so much money off of me, if the offered their old school titles on steam. I would buy every single SNES and Nintendo 64 title.
it is. and if we push back enough, it will.

Raising online price services that doesn’t justify is always exciting. Because being expensive is so beneficial, and solves everything…
Agreed! Solved the dilemma of switching with steam deck or giving Nintendo another shot. Looks like I’m leaning to steam more than ever
And they don't let you only buy the games anymore gotta keep buying a subscription to play old games at that point just emulate its there problem if they don't let you own the games anymore.
Wait a Large corporation is charging more money for no additional value? Who would have thought 🤔😂

Content included aside. 20 bucks for a YEAR was a sweet deal for a while VS. How ONE MONTH of game pass is the same price ijs
@Larock_816 yes but you can buy game pass titles individually you can't with nso so if you want to just play 1 n64 game ends up costing you way More over the years for that 1 game instead of just buying it.

I been playing on pc for 5 year now and it feel good not having to worry about paying for a online subscription every single year or month.
>he doesn’t pay for internet
How do you get your PC games?
PC game for online play they are just way behind at some point they will have to do the same or go out of business because it become unfair to the other console player. One example Steam you can play Multiplayer on Superliminal without paying per month, while for X box series X/S console have to pay for the monthly services really high price per month at it as to be the highest tier just to have access to the Multiplayer on Superliminal. Nintendo switch version of Superliminal still does not have multiplayer it got the rest of the update except for work shop and multiplayer even thought I pay for the expension pack still no multiplayer on Superliminal on the Nintendo switch, and I'm sure they are waiting for me and other that buy it on the Nintendo switch to re-buy the same superliminal game on the Nintendo switch 2 to have Multiplayer on Superliminal, I'm not going to re-buy the game on Steam just to play the multiplayer portion, because that way it is still considered scomming and the same scam. Just because you buy it on a specific console you get scam because the exclusive feature is only available if you re-buy the same game twice.
@@danielvillanueva3792He pays for his games. He pays for an internet connection. He DOES NOT pay for a subscription fee to play those games online on top of that, while console users pay for both. Hope you can understand the point now ya dingus.

Its $20 for a year lmao
If you just use it for online multi-player like Splatoon 3 then just pay the $20 a year for a single basic plan. That's less than $2 a month.
@@theretroinggamer1630 I have the family plan for multiple users.
Guess I gotta call it quits then. Never really use it anyway.
Yup I mostly just play single player games anyways lol so I don't need to pay for the online mode.
Unless you play Pokémon for online services there really is no point to subscribe to a service where you play games you won’t even digitally or physically own.

Not just Nintendo online. Also recently Spotify and Amazon Music 😢
They need to stop charging for the internet we already pay for.
Paying for your internet doesn't cover the cost of servers and people to run them.
@@Surelockohms LMAO. You buy the game. If they made a game that requires servers, that's on them. Also, let's say you are paying Sony for PS Plus to play Call of Duty online. COD servers are not run by Sony. They get nothing from you subscription to PS Plus. That's a long way saying you don't have a point here.
@@SurelockohmsNope that is then being greedy. Not Trying the sound entitled , but if a person is already paying for intenet, they should not have to play Video games online.
@elpopman2055 No, it's you being entitled. Nintendo offers more games and services for less than anyone else. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
Solution:
DON'T BUY ONLINE GAMES!!!!
If the game requires online connectivity in order to be playable, then don't buy the game. Their own greed will destroy them.
That's weird. I got an e-mail from Nintendo as I was watching this. A receipt for my annual Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
I 100% expected NSO to increase in price with Switch 2.
Switch 2 games are also going to be £70.
@perfectlyslicedegg3348 possibly $80
Imagine when they start selling Pokémon games for 70 dollars when recent Pokémon games don’t even meet the criteria for a 60 dollar title because it doesn’t offer the same amount of content you would see in a 60 dollar title.
I have the family pack, but if they increase the price. I stop with it instantly. 80 bucks is not what it is worth.
Nintendo always been greedy. They never lower prices on games that came out 6+ years ago and are graphically outdated asf and they charged $70 for tears of the kingdom when it’s just botw 1.5 💀
@mightguy3118 they're charging GameCube & Wii Ports for $60 dollars 💸 😆 they easily could've included Virtual Console and let's buy it for cheaper
I still can't believe that BOTW is a full priced game in their EShop. Nintendo is criminal as a company. They make great games but they are so sheisty. I don't buy anything other than Zelda and Metroid from them. Maybe Fire EMBLEM. The rest of their games are untouched by me.
You have not played Totk

You do realize Nintendo always announces Gamr price drops in Presentations or after them
Wii got price drops after the Wii U Presentation
DS games got Price drops after 3DS reveal
Wii u game are the only time theu did price drops early because it was such a flop
Switch 1 is going to get price drops when switch 2 Presentation comes so stop this yapping
Even Nintendo isn't immune to price increases. The industry is doomed 💀
Damn they increased the price all to get Ridge Racer 64 on the platform.
You know if Nintendo wants to raise the price, that's on them as a company. However as a consumer we need to decide if the product is worth it. Right now, it's not. If retro games were coming out more frequently and to a wider variety of the systems they have, maybe. If they offered something like new releases to download for people who have the service. Not like game pass where everything seems to show up there, but give us something. Not something like Oni the Best Oni crap, or something crappy thing like that, but something more AAA/ even BBB.
RGT gunna have to use some of that special gold he keeps in that little bag around his neck, to cover that Nintendo Online sub.
Thanks for the shout-out for Kentucky, my home.
@@RockPaperJonny hey that fried chicken is bomb !!!
Could be happening for a variety of reasons. Greed could be one but I’m curious if there are some increases in infrastructure cost in some regions along with inflation. Anything going up in price in Argentina isn’t a shock since their inflation is at 166% (fortunately it’s showing signs of slowing)
Not to get political but I wonder if those tariffs the president is about to put on to other countries will affect the price of the NS2 and maybe this is the beginning of the price hikes ?
Shouldn't in any way affect the price of a digital good since nothing is being imported/exported, that would just be greed on Nintendo's part. Physical media and the switch 2 itself will be more expensive because of the tariffs undoubtedly (unless they're manufactured and made within America which I don't believe they are anywhere), but if digital media and prices go up that's just corporate greed and they're using it as an excuse.
If the price is going up, either they're justifying it through inflation, or they're adding more consoles to it like GC and DS. Logically anyways, Nintendo does have their ego again so it could just be them flexing their success.
@ 1000% agree . My thought process was them upping the digital price to keep them from having to up the price of the switch successor but maybe that’s not how business works 😅
Then why get political. it's pointless.
@@martincarnahan381 I’m not expressing my political views I’m just wondering if these traffis are impacting these price hikes or if it will have a impact on the market when it comes to the price point of the Nintendo Switch successor. That’s pretty much it bro just having a healthy friendly conversation.
@darcidious99 but Tarriffs will most likely increase the price of physical copies of they are comming from a Tarriffed country. And if Physically copies go up then its basically guaranteed digital games will go up. And then being 100% honestly other companies not effective by Tarriffs would most likely increase prices as well.
Well, if the price goes up, I expect the service to be maintained and to get periodic upscaling updates for the games. I've bought so much content through Nintendo online, I want the service to be available on all platforms going forward.
I hope this means Game Cube and DreamCast coming to Nintendo online!!!
NSO family plan is very cheap. I recommend sharing a plan with family/friends.
I think there's not enough criticism against Nintendo as per usual. Nintendo should've gone under with the Wii U, then we could've gotten Nintendo games in its rightful place, on Steam without online pay. Unfortunately, Nintendrones can't help themselves but support this crap. I mean some of them are blaming Trump, just goes to show how dumb as rocks they can be!
As far as the Virtual Console side of Nintendo Switch Online is concerned, the price is ridiculously low. Not only is it cheaper than the so-called competition, but last I checked, it's also cheaper than just about any major media subscription in the U.S.! Therefore, if they were to raise the price of the base tier to $30 a year, it would be perfectly reasonable.
Finally someone with common sense! Usually people just parrot "NSO BAD!" that they heard or saw elsewhere with 0 knowledge of what they're talking about.
@@PaperBanjo64 it is bad when people only use it fo online and don't care about anything else....
Considering how cheap NSO is it sounds like a non factor. Honestly it’s inevitable for the price to increase after having the service for 6+ years
Damn, I thought they would do it after announcing the Switch 2 exclusive NSO features
Prices on the eshop change all the time in latin american countries, that's one of the reasons many people still have USA accounts.
Their service has not become more expensive, your money is just worth less. 😂
Wow. Glad I bought when I did. I just renewed a couple weeks ago for a full year.
That’s the thing, Nintendo has just NEVER done Online right outside of Japan.
Nintendo: If you wanna continue to use nso you must pay the difference for the price increase. If not than we got your money ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! 😂
@ yeah, I don’t think that’s going to be the case. If you bought it before the price jump, then lucky you. You’re locked into that price for the duration of the service agreement.
An extra $10 per YEAR…
Bro, I can’t even get a fast food meal or 3 gallons of gas for $10
This is nothing
Bro forgot how "inflation" works
You think gas prices and fast food prices magically went up in the span of a year? No they went up over time
Give it a few more years and that extra $10 for switch online will increase to $20, $30 and so on. Glad you fell for the trap though, maybe grocery stores can convince you to pay $6 for an apple slowly over the next decade 😂
@jacobporter419 It took a full eight years for nintendo to increase the price by $10 ONCE.
That is $80 less than if it had always been this price.
How soon do you think they are going to increase it again?
Love that you have a copy of Tokyo Xtreme Racer out!! Have you been playing the PC game? I absolutely LOVE IT!
Online subscription to play online is ridiculous
I wish they would just sell the GBA games in the store
Yeah I agree they should like a virtual console shop. But nope sadly.
Well the idea is for you to have a permanent membership. It’s scummy but a smart move from their perspective.
@@crustyhotdog7940That's why they get no $ out of me!
It's for the same reason why gta 6 is trying to be $100 to set a new price point i really doubt there's any other reason just corporate greed
You would be gready to if you could too, dont be a hypocrite.
@gsst6389 not being a hypocrite and you obviously don't know me but your entitled to your opinion as i am mine
@@gsst6389 only caring about money ruins everything though if every body did that there wouldn't be quality products to spend your money on. The reason why certain games and movies are good is because passion is put in remove that and you get a soulless cash grab same goes for any product. Wanting money to make things possible to do i understand but wanting as much money for as little effort as possible especially with things like games and movies which can be consider art just ruins them.
You're gonna be playing this game anyway and for the next 20 years, that's definitely worth the £100 if that's the case, idiots like you obviously misinterpreted that TakeTwo interview where they mislead that they want to charge people per hour of gameplay when that was NEVER the case, they explained the more you play the better value of the price for the game is worth (Cyberboi did a better job explaining this) its not about greed, its the amount of hours/years you fans put into this game to make the price tag have good value

Just for information, and I know it’s a very VERY small market. I live in Switzerland 🇨🇭 and the price for NSO actually went down a few months back. Granted, it was already priced rather high compared to the EU, and so it was more of an adjustment.
Nintendo online I use it for backup from the cloud as I do from PlayStation and Xbox which is $20 the games aren’t worth my time
Cloud saves are not locked behind a paywall on Xbox, only online multiplayer for paid games.
@@Mr-jj3gpnot really cloud saves x we’re the the only reason gamers pay Nintendo a penny for their joke online giving trash games and trash games never leave the online catalog but great games do leave but that’s only on PlayStation and Xbox game pass if Nintendo didn’t have cloud in any way I wouldn’t of subscribed not interested in playing games I already own that don’t give achievements
If anyones paying for the $49.99 subscription that’s a big waste of money
We will probably all see the increase at some point I've been expecting it since all of this switch 2 hype...
What Nintendo found in these countries was 95% of family plans were at the 8 person limit, leading them to believe these countries were more apt to share their account with not only family members but neighbors as well. When we look at a market like the US with a majority of broken homes and people who don’t trust family let alone neighbors , we find a much bigger profit as many people have their own sole account they pay yearly for. Source: trust me bro
The service is expanding and they charge hardly anything for it….. it has to grow and subscriber count will grow a lot for switch 2
🎶 Oh I’m in Kentucky tell me if you wanna goooo
Wild. I completely forgot what it even feels like to pay nintendo for anything. Looks like it's worse than I remember
More titles on NSO, more licenses. Common sense.
only care about online common sense
Time to go back to n64 era gaming . F this
This is due to the exchange rate mostly.
I mean, it makes sense. Their online service works so well.
This increase is more linked to currency exchange rates than other things. The mexican peso has lost value against a lot of other currencies and it's on the range of 20% of loss in value. The same amount of increase that the switch subscription price increased.
This logic isn't allowed.
If people didn't damage control for Nintendo switch online then the price of the service probably wouldn't have increased.
Thanks for the heads up RGT. Price increases are sadly just the way of the world (gotta keep up with the joneses, greed, etc. can't miss out on that extra buck), but the problem with it is that we don't see any price "drops" these days. Since the new generation that Nintendo kicked off in 2017, there have been no price drops on hardware even for PSX and XB as well. And since then, how many times have PSN and XBL (or whatever) increased in price? We even saw a jump to a "standard" $70 price point for games. Thankfully not all have followed suit...you know, apart from the $150 super digital collector's pay to play 2 day early edition...
So they raise their prices, but they don't even bother fixing the endless issues with their eShop? Way to go Nintendo.
I live in México and the prices as of 02/01 is:
Nintendo Switch Online 1 year: 399 mxn = 19.29 dlls
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack 1 year: 999 mxn = 48.30 dlls
The price increased because the dll increased, that’s it. It’s still the same price as always.
well that means gamecube & wii games are coming
Lol nintendo tariffs!
Take ur ppl back, and tariff will be lifted!
the way i see it, if i really believed i cant drop 20 - 50 bucks a year for anything i want then maybe i REALLY need to check my financial status cause something is DEFINETLY wrong
What seems to be missing here is the fact that Nintendo reduced the price of NSO a few years ago, at least in Mexico when the US Dollar was around 17X the value of the Mexican Peso (previously it was 20X), and now the price has come back to the original price when the US dollar was 20x the Mexican Peso and indeed the US Dollar is back again around 20X against the Mexican Peso.
Bro said ecca-nomm-ist. And i felt that
I really hope there is native chat on Switch 2 it's very hard to play with family, and friends online usually have to use Discord
I was just having a conversation with a friend about this yesterday
I am starting to believe that the NSO emulators sole purpose is to generate hype for Nintendo when they need it most.
NINTENDO put the original gba Pokemon games on the switch!! I’ve literally been waiting for years. Thank you

Also it’s still funny MVG was flat and utterly WRONG about Switch 2 backwards compatibility
it's kind of expected, people complain that the online is a mess but they always forget they're paying $4 a month.😂
-Toy story I don't want to play with you anymore meme.mp4
I have it but honestly I don’t use it that much but I’ve had my Switch since 2020 and this is my first price increase, do tariffs affect the price? I’m hoping we will get more with the new system but we’ll see.
I knew it, I knew this would happen. Granted I thought they'd wait for the launch of Switch 2 (which they still might for most regions) but I knew it was coming. $20 a year for base NSO was too good to be true and it was never going to last...I'm surprised it even lasted this long. Paying to play online is such a bullshit tactic, but subscription services as a whole have gotten completely out of hand in every direction...I'm so beyond sick of it.

This is clickbait lmao
They only raised the price in Latin America due to inflation incressding there the prices here and everywhere else os the exact same.
I would say Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack with Family Membership is cheap if you have seven other players in a group with you. At least as it comes with the retro game libraries included. The Family Membership is currently only 8.75€ a year in Northern Europe where I live. That's like 0.73 cents a month.
I don't mind paying a little more but i want to see some up grades to the service i want chat and more online game play with non friend list players like Splatoon.
It's crazy .. Xbox really the only one giving fantastic value and quality to their customers with the benefits and features of their ecosystem/services, and all folks are doing is saying "whats the point in buying an xbox"
What's the point in buying an Xbox (and I own one).
@gedfaz I literally just said why - and it's more about "why engage with the Xbox ecosystem and platform" and they offer plenty and things no other gaming ecosystem does. Cross buy, cross play, cross save, cross progression, access to a world class subscription service like no other, ability to play your games on PC, console, handheld, and cloud.
If that doesn't interest you, than Xbox isn't for you - doesn't mean there isn't any benefit or value to buying an Xbox, so it's fairly careless and avoidance for you or anyone else to throw that out and claim no reasons to buy into the Xbox.
It wasn’t even worth the original price. I don’t care about the games that are offered with NSO since I can already play them through some of my emulators. I have lost respect for Nintendo ever since they started charging people to play online. Same with Sony. Paying to play online shouldn’t be a thing.
you think the top USB C is for a second screen for DS virtual Console? or maybe a USB C to HDMI for the TV to be the second screen?
Nintendo is killing themselves. I stopped buying games for the switch years ago. I definitely won’t be paying for online services
If ur paying for this sucks for you
I booted up the Genesis NSO app last night and was taken aback by the selection. I forgot how good it was. How is a single membership not worth $30-$35 a year at this point? Never mind the online play, the games service alone justifies the cost. Anyone bored with the current releases should try out the classics.
I haven’t pay for this garbage service since the switch dropped and not planning for that to change, they offer nothing of value.
7:52 Yup, now that they heard you say that they are going to do it. You all need to stop saying it because we know they do great, but why keep asking for greater value when its not needed because they can't.
My subscription auto renewed today and I didn’t know until I saw the receipt
But I can't pay for my subscription until March. That's not fair. You see because I was on a family plan it won't let me switch over to the other plan until that plan has expired or something like that. That's ridiculous. I might not even switch over. I was only on it for Splatoon and I'm not playing Splatoon. Unfortunately our saves are tied to the online subscription as well though so there is that. How much more is it $10
People paying for roms and a terrible online multiplayer is pretty crazy to begin with
I don’t subscribe to it and can’t see me ever subscribing.
I've never bought into Switch Online. I DESPISE online gaming. People who buy into it, are suckers who are just throwing their money into a black hole. 🤦🏻♀
-L🌘E
This reminded me that I haven’t really used NSO so I turned off auto renewal.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Mario kart is a monthly subscription like WoW
Yeah I already canceled NSO. I definitely won't resubscribe again and especially not at an increased price. They even drip feed the games. The whole concept of paying a subscription to play games or anything for that matter is bogus. I will definitely be choosing to buy and own my games. The thing about subscriptions is they are always a good deal when they launch, then they always increase in price as time goes on. Remember when Netflix launched. It was the savior alternative to expensive cable bills, but it is no longer the savior its the replacement and even worst. Eventually subscriptions will be the only way to get content if the consumers don't make a choice to not support subscriptions in general. Buy physical games and movies. You will own them and play or watch them forever. In the long term it'll be much better trust me.
I mean, it might connect to the upcoming tier or maybe a new app like the GameCube Switch Online app.
Maybe it has to do with making up for the new tariffs in the US so instead of raising the price for the Switch 2, they raise the price for the service.
I’m looking at their site looks the same to me
