      I’m homeschooling for the first time this year, my daughter is 5 & we’re doing Gather Round Unit study, Asia, with her and her brother who’s 10 & in 5th grade. For their math they both have Masterbooks. She has the kindergarten book but it seems to be way too simple for her. I also have these Highlight books that help her with tracing & letters & simple, preschool type things. I’m so lost on how to teach her to read & write & do math. And I think she’s ready for more advanced work but I also don’t know how to give her a good solid foundation for it all, do you think this book you’re reviewing would fit her well? Or is there I test or something I can do with her to see where she’s at?

    Do you think this would be too much to do along with all about reading for kindergarten? I was thinking about the good and the beautiful but I’m liking the look of this one.

      I'm not very familiar with All about Reading at all, but I think Gather 'Round's Ready to Read program is quite 'light' as far as kindergarten programs go, not taking up much time so could easily be done alongside other things. It's quite a different approach to TG&TB, with more of a natural science focus throughout the RTR units.

      Sorry, I don't have any Reading curriculum from BJU. You may want to check Lauren's channel, "The Practical Homeschooler", I know she uses BJU and has used them but I'm not sure if she's used level 1.

      I don't think Burrows + Holes goes up to 100, but I think the later books in the Ready to Read series do.

    I bought this for my 4 year old daughter. She and I both love it. It's laid out so well, its easy to teach, it's hands-on which is great for kinesthetic learners and reinforces the concepts. I didn't print out the teacher's book. We read the lessons on the laptop or PC, talk about it, then I'll supplement with UA-cam videos so she can see the animals or whatever is the topic. I've printed the Student book, punched the papers and put them in a binder. Even the books we make i paperclip them to the pages and keep in the binder. I saw another curriculum which was much cheaper than this one but I'm so glad i chose Burrows and Holes. It's worth the expense.

    • @SevenInAll
      @SevenInAll  3 роки тому

      I am so, so glad you are loving the curriculum! You're right, UA-cam videos are very fun to use when learning about bugs or animals, especially, so that they can actually see the animals moving around. With the little mini-books, yes, we've kept them and used them for reading practice again and again. :)

      Hello! Do you think this would work well paired with a more intensive phonics program? I’m thinking about using it with Treasure Hunt Reading. My son and I loved Letters and Numbers, but I would like him to get more phonics instruction than RTR looks like it offers.

    So helpful! Thank you. So what is the verdict? Did you like it? We have used CLE for all of our children up until now. I am liking the look of this but am wondering if it as much practice for retention

    • @SevenInAll
      @SevenInAll  3 роки тому

      I would say that anything that is a PURELY phonics or learn-to-read program is definitely going to be more thorough, have more practice and overlap to really teaching reading thoroughly. Some kids need a dedicated, thorough reading program...while other kids, if you give them the general ideas of phonics and a little bit of practice, they take off and run with it. So I think it's really going to depend on the individual kid and what you're looking for from it. I would personally be more likely to use this as a fun theme with extra reading practice alongside something that was just plain phonics....but again, it would depend on the kid. If the kid didn't need all the practice of a dedicated phonics program, I wouldn't do both.

    I am so curious about this in comparison to The Good and the Beautiful. I like that all subjects are covered in one book, but still unsure.

    • @SevenInAll
      @SevenInAll  4 роки тому

      I haven't seen the Kindergarten level of the Good and the Beautiful myself, so I don't really have a first-person comparison. We have used other elementary levels of the Good and the Beautiful and I do know that the artist studies that are included in those are not part of this. This includes art from the perspective of learning about shades, lines, color mixing, different elements of art, but doesn't tackle artists. As far as the Good and the Beautiful being more of an art- and poetry-angled LA program...this seems like more of a nature science-angled program as far as learning to read. At least in this unit....and the math is integrated, so that's another big difference.

    Very detailed review, thank you for that! I've been meaning to buy this but the sample page they have shows very little so was undecided. A few q's: does it have numbers over 20 for addition, subtraction etc? I know books 2-4 aren't available but if book 1 covers numbers over 20 i can assume that by the time kids get to book 4 they'll definitely be doing larger numbers.
    Another q: does it have any personal info like ALL ABOUT ME/MY FAMILY pages etc?
    TIA!

    • @SevenInAll
      @SevenInAll  4 роки тому

      In book 1, they cover counting to 20 and writing to 20 (on calendar activities, writing up to 30) but addition is only for numbers less than 10--this first book ends with activities focusing on memorizing the addition facts that add to 10. And yes, the math is going to gradually be using larger numbers and more calculations as the books progress through the series. It does have a bit of the personal information kind of pages like learning parents' full names, what parents do for work, etc. incorporated into the Social studies pages, and memorizing personal info like phone number, etc. included in life skills. I think more of that will be continued into book 2 as well. I hope that's helpful! I know it's tough to make decisions when the whole program isn't published yet. I will be making a video on book 2 when it comes out!

      haha, I get that comment a lot--I hope the background noise isn't too bothersome, our windows don't have glass, just bars and screens, so when I film near a window to get natural light, you hear ALL the sounds of the outside. And...yes, our apartment complex is right next to the jungle. We see monkeys every day and different kinds of birds are always hanging out on our little balcony. We live in tropical Southeast Asia! :)
