Worldwide reputation, proven MARKsman and still able to put your hand up and say I made a mistake..👏 Absolutely one of the reasons i respect this channel, two down to earth no B.S hardworking people who love what they do. Much respect..
Five different people will get five different results with the same rifle. The weakest link in the process of shooting is the human factor. I appreciate your input, Mark.
Confidence is simply one’s ability to to leave worries and overthinking behind and enjoy the moment! Almost a Zen thing… Great video! Have a great weekend guys!
At 72 years old I’m still heavily into compound archery for 3-d, hunting, and paper target competition. Once you have your equipment “ dialed” in, the last part is exactly what you’re saying- CONFIDENCE! The mental aspect of archery is so huge it’s almost beyond belief. In the firearm world I’ve been in a couple of situations where my confidence in my rifle and myself resulted in the needed outcome. It was confidence. Liking this video 👍👍
Respect. Humble, wise and experienced. Well done Sam - first shot too. It’s all about time on task. Military snipers in training shoot hundreds of rounds per day/week for months. It’s about self-knowledge, ‘no mind’, experience…etc. How did our grandpas do it years ago in the military? Smaller than us, with .303, Mad-Minute …etc. Many thanks.
Absolutely bang on the money!! Another channel I watch [ f class shooter], fully believes in practicing with the caliber that he uses during the match, so that he is fully familiar with the recoil, behavior of the gun etc., which basically boil down to CONFIDENCE...cheers...
Thanks Fred, and well yes, but, I have found diversity creates deeper skill/confidence, but with competition shooters, the one gun has merit too, all up, however you get more trigger time all helps, Cheers
Hi Mark, what I meant to say was when he is practicing for an upcoming match, he practices with the gun and load he'll be using, hence the familiarity and the confidence...
Mark, before I watch No2, thanks for a fabulous explanation. Click bang most certainly causes a nervous twitch. Accuracy is perhaps subjective. Many shooters are surprised at the accuracy achieved by what we might call big bores. I have three Ruger No1 rifles, 6mm Remington will shoot half moa or better, 45/70 one moa, 416 REM Mag one moa. These are pretty much out of the box with a scope suitable for deer etc. Now on to episode 2.
The application of confidence gained through repetition so that I may improve performance. But also be comfortable with my equipment. I will take it to heart. Thank you Mark.
So darn true indeed sir. The 22 November 2005 I harvested a big whitetail buck at 260 yards my father's 30-30 Winchester carbine. A single 150 grain Silvertip no tracking required. Of course I swapped out rear sight for Williams Foolproof receiver sight and Williams Firesite front bead. Alberta boreal forest.Taking a deer is actually easier than your awesome long range target shooting. Practice practice practice the summer prior. Was an offhand shot and high sight in. I knew my hold it's white throat patch it looking at me would place the deadly pill into its boiler room. Believing you can do it is half the battle. Marksmanship is mostly mental organization. Be well BTW my favorite practice rifle is a 1936 German 22 ES350b Mauser. Second favorite rifle: sporterized FN Mauser in 458x2inch American. I must add at a friendly informal summer competition, longest run I seen of hits at 1000 yards a friend's Savage rifle in 6mmbr. That's a great cartridge choice! Fourteen consecutive hits no problem. I have gone on too long friend.
Just getting into long range. I wanted to shoot 1000 yards. Don't know why, just did. I had made lots of 3 to 500 yard shots hunting, but never more. I wanted to push myself. Went out and bought a precision rifle. I did it. It was a blast. Shooting for a mile next. I knew I could so I did. This is spot on advice. Put your mind to it and go do it.
Your point about natural ability is well taken. I have a friend who is a phenomenal natural rifleman. However, he lacks the patience and discipline to take time and develop his skill, learn repeatable habits, and learn the little details that refine his abilities. He is a young guy so I figure he will calm down a bit in a few years, but without hard work ability is wasted.
Good points for sure. I have a Rem 700 hunting contour rifle in .300 WM. Beautiful gun to look at but a brute to shoot (after just a few rounds, I would have a headache). I actually got to the point that I really didn't want to shoot it anymore. I had an elk hunt scheduled where I planned to use that rifle and literally gave thought to cancelling because the thought of shooting that thing enough to really know it and load for it was just too much. No enjoyment whatsoever. (And I love to shoot!) I ended up buying a Browning X-bolt in .300 WM with a built in compensator that is wayyyyy more comfortable to shoot. It worked perfectly. So for sure confidence is a major factor in this sport! Thanks!!
Lots of folks hope to make up for skill and experience or time, with money. Shooting sports are certainly not cheap, but they take time, work, and practice, not just money.
excellent video Mark. That rifle for Sam is a sweet shooter! One of my favorite rifles is the same 45/70 that you have. mind you, not near as many rounds fired through it as you have, but I really enjoy shooting it as well. Cheers. BTW, really enjoy your channel.
An out of towner asking for direction in New York City asked a man on the street "How do I get to Carnegie Hall". The man replied " Practice, practice, practice."
You so on the money. I’ve got some nice rifle that are very accurate, more accurate then me. But I myself have become more accurate with my lever action in 30-30 and it as you said it came down to trigger time and confidence/knowledge of where that projectile is going to land. Confidence is so underrated, often I see mate pick up a nice rifle and instantly begin to poo poo it because their not shooting the groups like their previous rifle and it just come down to confidence.
Confidence will get you better ! To be as good as Mark is probably putting too high of expectations on yourself which will kill confidence ! Trust me !
@@markandsamafterwork unrealistic expectations will nab you on the tender area of the inside thigh ! Everytime haha ! You an Sam are thousands of yards ahead of the next UA-camr and may I ask who even is that ? Nobody knows 😂! The seminar is gonna be insane ! I can’t wait 😜
I used to practice shooting chicken eggs with my hunting rifle. I made a 3 second routine because I was always told you only get 3 seconds to shoot. I got really good at it, then the prices of ammunition, and lack of ammunition kicked up. While I'm still accurate, I'm not nearly as accurate as quickly as I used to be. Yes, aim small miss small.
22 is the stockpile i always got at home. Got 222, 243, 12 gauge. But 22 is is the cheapest trainer. Up to 250/300. I'm not pushing it like you. But my German 22 has a 720 grammes (pound and a half ) two stage Trigger. My Other riffles have direct one... Just breeze... Point, shoot, hit. 🖖🏻🇫🇷😎🇫🇷😎🇫🇷🖖🏻

The fundamentals are more than the rifle. Well said. Without them you will never be consistent.
Agreed
