I am so glad you really enjoyed my video. We own a 1950 Vincent Black Lightning racing bike. Not a speedway bike obviously, but rather rare and special as your 3 sound.
Terry stone used to ride with my uncle , les mcgilvary , he rode for Raleigh , hackney , my late dad took loads of photos of those riders in the 60's as a amateur photographer along with Alf weedon .
Very nice video! That's a couple really wonderful DT5's! So nice to see them, still employed in their original role, and maintained in the proper manner! A dream of mine, is to one day own an original Douglas SW5. :)
@g0fvt So glad you like it, and it has not been edited in any way what so ever. I took LOTS of photos of this event which I will put on Facebook, and add the link to this video description asap.
Been a long time since i last saw the colours of Haringay Racers, the first team i ever supported. Not the Wembley jacket i remember what year did the use that one? I rode cycle speedway for Wembley Lions and that jacket was the one i remember from their speedway team. Great vidio, bought back many memories.
I'm sure Colin's full name was 'Colin Knights'. Straight after he said his name for the camera, Ruth dropped the 'S'. Also the reason that Tery mentioned that 2 Australians rode the Douglas' was that John Hoskins, from Maitland NSW Australia, was credited with presenting speedway to the world in an official organised fashion, in Maitland. He apparantly got the idea from individuals that had got together racing each other, but un-organised. The yanks like to think they invented it but not so.
This is just fabulous - thanks for putting this up. I own 3 ohv Douggies, and to hear them running is just a joy. Terry's machine sounds superb
Very nice work, those are beautiful machines! Thanks for posting.
