"Snow globe" is a very popular Christmas souvenir. This is a glass container, usually a ball, inside which there is some kind of statuette (figure of an animal, a fairy-tale character, elegant houses), and if the container is shaken, artificial snow rises inside and sequins that swirl, like a real snowfall.
The very first snow globe was presented to the General public at the Paris exhibition of 1889. This ball was the size of a palm, and inside it was a smaller replica of the Eiffel tower. Later, the balls began to appear with the other architectural wonders. Balls were filled with water, and the role of "snow" in those days was performed by sand and broken porcelain. The original purpose of the snow globe is to be an original paperweight. But people liked the idea so much that snow balls with snowfall inside became very popular Christmas (and not only) souvenir.
