The govt is recognising the crypto currencies only as a mode of transaction. The govt is not going to give crypto currencies the status of legal tenders. As per the budget 2022-23 announced recently, govt is going to charge 30% tax on crypto transactions, which is basically a deterrent step in order to discourage the public from using/depending too much on crypto currencies. Instead the govt has announced that RBI will introduce CBDC(Central Bank Digital Currency) which is also based on Blockchain technology and will be considered a legal tender. I am in full support of this step by the Govt as India is a developing country and depending on decentralised currency could bring havoc in the whole economic system and has the potential to even collapse the economy.
