It's not just about owning fewer things, it's spending less on ourselves. It's not buying the $400,000+ house when a $200,000 or less house would do very well. It's not buying the BMW or Escalade when a Dodge Journey would be entirely serviceable. It's not buying any vehicle at all for our teenager. It's not eating out frequently, especially at expensive restaurants, or buying $5 Starbucks lattes. It's not taking expensive vacations and cruises (or expensive short-term mission trips) or buying timeshares. It's not purchasing more insurance than necessary. It's not spending tons of money on various sports and recreation endeavors. It is living healthy lifestyles, low or no-cost exercise and good diet, to minimize the expense of sickness and disease. It's amazing that even being reasonably minimalist in all these things still puts many American Christians far above great multitudes of their brothers and sisters here and across the globe. How can we possibly be so blind? There should be no poverty among the people of Jesus Christ.
I have been grappling with the "take nothing for the journey", "go and sell all that you have, give the money to the poor, and come follow me", and Jesus example of leaving everything behind to come down become a human... I am start to see my way out...through minimalism.
Like he said "Jesus said it over two thousand years ago" and it truly is a better way to live. Thank you for sharing this life changing, no, world changing information. If we will let it change us.
Hahahahahahahaha........ My computer chose to freeze and buffer exactly at 04:15 where Joshua is trying to push Kim passed the 60% and she says " wait a minute.... Don't we want to keep the kids......." Hilarious. It took almost a minute to continue. Phew! I'm so relieved.
So glad to finally run across this video. I've been following Joshua's blog for a few years. This was a delightful way to hear his voice and mannerisms plus really hear his views on Jesus which he is very careful about on his minimalism blog. "By all means, save some." Good job, Joshua!
Hello, thank you for the great video and the different perspectives that I had yet to realise. I was wondering if you could give me a few verses or a story explicitly about Jesus living his minimalist life or where he preaches having less, please. You began to see money and things in a different way as christ did, that it is not a sacrifice to live with less but an invitation to a more abundant life which you talk about at 7:10. I think if I can study this aspect of my minimalism journey I can become even closer to Jesus, not just through praying for clarity, through having less possessions (which I admit distract me from the Lord) but also through living the way he lived. Thank you :-)
...where moth and rust destroy... I think of this when I through away large bags of clothes I had stored for years in the garage. The mice had torn into many of these. I also had my house broken into and thieves stole and they set fire and the smoke destroyed most of the furniture. I am trying to get rid of everything but I have this storing thing that I am working on changing. It is hard to see how much we store for some reason. Downsizing helps. This was very good.
The sermon on the Mount might be a starting point. The best thing would be to pick a gospel and just read it through. You really don't need anyone to tell you what Jesus said or how He lived. It takes a little over 2 hours to read through the 21 chapters of John's gospel. Go for it! 😁👍👍
Jesus never claimed to be half God and half man. That is mythology. Jesus is wholly God, and wholly man, or truly God, and truly man. That's the beauty of the Incarnation. 😁😁👍👍 You'd have to read the gospels with the Holy Spirit opening your spiritual eyes to see it.
The person called “Jesus” may have spoken about living with less, but he never spoke out against owning slaves. He’s certainly *not* the best role model we have to follow. I found minimalism without Jesus (and I do speak out against slavery, fyi).
Michael there are plenty of non minimalist Christians. I suggest you go preach over there. However, Christians like myself like seeing examples of what is preached in the Bible.

Amen, me too ❤️

I was laughing too.. because he says it's so slowly I thought he was saying to get rid of the kids 😂.

and it has just 58 views ..... :´(

Miniamilms and new age go hand in hand. I think what you mean is leading a simple life. Careful!!
I think that is the hottest pastor I have ever seen.
Jesus claims
To be 1/2 god and 1/2 man. Is this not a repeat of Greek mythology?

You like seeing examples of what is preached in the Bible? Just the good stuff, or do you like seeing the bad stuff too?
Whatever you say
No answer for my question? I'm being honest. Are you?
Did he never speak out against it? Or did he explicitly approve of slavery? Is there a difference? Also, provide context. Thanks 😊
