In 2008, American Idol was the #1 rated show in primetime, Wheel of Fortune celebrated its 25th season as the #1 rated game show, WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) transitioned all of its programming to HD (High Definition), The Dark Knight was the highest-grossing film of the year, American Gladiators (which was popular in syndication from 1989-96) returned, albeit briefly, Grand Theft Auto IV, Mario Kart Wii, Call of Duty: World at War, Ghostbusters, Burnout: Paradise, Rock Band 2, Gears of War 2 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed were the hottest video games of the year and NASCAR’s Daytona 500 celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
The Phillies won their first World Series in 28 years, the Detroit Red Wings were crowned the 2008 Stanley Cup Champions, Jimmie Johnson was crowned the 2008 NASCAR Cup Champion and the New York Giants, in one of the biggest, if not the biggest upset in Super Bowl history, upset the undefeated New England Patriots, ending the latter’s streak at 18-1 and earning the Giants their first Super Bowl in 18 years.

I used to hate the Giants back in the day but dang they were so fun to watch especially against the Eagles in the 2000s I miss this Giants team, just so confident .

Why would anyone root for a Giants upset and think it was great that the Patriots almost were undefeated but failed in the end? I still don't know how New York won. Just a horrible Superbowl
I know that many folks wanted to see the Patriots complete the 'perfect' season...but it sure felt like a lot of people in that stadium & watching around the world quietly wanted to see if the Giants could pull off the improbable. It really felt at the time like the 'mighty' Patriots against this raggedy, scrappy Giants team that just happened to show up on the biggest stage with almost all the odds stacked against them. But they managed to shock the masses when it was all said & done in the end. 😀
Instinctively I was looking for Strahan amongst the pre game commentary crew but then was like Oh shit that's right he was busy kicking Brady's ass this game it's funny because I literally just replied to somebody about Strahan in this game
The three Super Bowls that Brady and the Patriots lost were because of Tom Coughlin as New York head coach and Philadelphia coordinator. He blitzed and broke through Brady's protection and shut down Randy Moss, a tactical genius.
Past 10 years it's either been Brady's team (Bucs or Pats) or more recently the Swifites who have been winning them all (or the Eagles who I hate because I'm a Giants fan), we may never get what we used to ever again :(
Nearly sixteen years later this still grates at me. Fucking Asante Samuel made three of his worst plays that night. Let the Giants’ 10-7 TD go right through his hands. Dropped the INT. Then pulled up instead of going and giving Rodney Harrison a help on the helmet catch. If he makes good on even ONE of those, then the Patriots go 19-0. And probably win Super Bowl XLIII too.
@@TheAireaidLordthat’s true. BUT so is this. Samuel gave up Tyree’s touchdown that put the Giants ahead 10-7. Then he dropped the INT. Then he pulled up and left Harrison out to dry on the helmet catch.

If you had a giant tournament where you included all top 100 greatest nfl teams all playing at their best, these two teams would meet in the finals
Yeah the 10-6 giants gtfo
The 86 giants and 85 bears would likely beat both of these teams. Have a bit of respect for past greatness.
