I honestly love what they did with Sonic’s cyber corruption. It doesn’t just affect him during cutscenes; if you pay close attention, his idle animation is affected as well as the corruption worsens. On the third island (after he finds Tails), he’s holding his head and slightly squinting, and on the fourth island he’s kneeling down and panting.
Too bad the whole corruption plotpoint ends by the end of the 4th island (really just island 3.5 with a crap ton of lore dumps), and the resolution of it all just felt underwhelming. Like, he's corrupted and trapped between realities for like 2 minutes, and saved in the exact same cutscene as his friends just say some words of encouragement and proceed to absorb themselves into him. It would have been a good chance to have a Sonic 06-esque End Of The World section, playing as Tails, Knux, Amy and maybe even Sage.

Sometimes its a spinning sign, sometimes is a big ol' ring" The story in this game is great, and really brings out the best of each character, but I just always love those little nods to past games. Especially when its in such a lighthearted way that Sonic can deliver.
Not gonna lie, this was hardest I laughed as far as I can remember from a Sonic line. It's such a funny 4th wall break (at least in terms of acknowledging that Sonic does touch/reach these things) and I absolutely loved it.
This is the interaction between characters I've always wanted in a Sonic game. 42:00 This whole bit was great, Sonic was dying to crack a joke at the beginning but quickly noticed Knuckles mood and was respectful to have a deep moment with him, I want more of this, this is character growth, these two have known each other since Sonic 3 and to see something outside knuckles being treated as a meathead or sonic poking fun at him is just such a breath of fresh air for these two.
I'm not sure if he was dying to crack a joke or just literally wanted to say anything to break silence, but nonetheless it was a really great quiet moment for Sonic.
I am SO glad that the characterisation for Sonic,Eggman,Knuckles,Amy and Tails are back to the right direction. Especially Sonic being able inspire characters like Tails and not being annoying,Eggman who could actually be taken seriously and not be a clown,Amy with her crush with Sonic not even being in the game and showing her kindness and compassion personality and Tails not being a coward or a information bot and to have doubts but remembering the time saved a town and rescue Sonic from a trap and Knuckles in the prologue has told themselves. I finally gain my hope for the franchise again.
@@markofthewolvessucks8930 yah I can say as somebody who finished the main story that it feels nice that the characters are done correctly still jokes in there but there not corny really and some are actually a little funny I loved how amy and tails is handled especially because I don’t dislike those characters at all but in recent games they just made them annoying and or useless but in this game it’s a way more serious tone in every aspect than what we got recently this is a step in the right direction praying that they take this formula and only improve on it 😭

I'm glad Sonic Frontiers did Sonic's character right. Unlike Forces or Colors where Sonic seems to mindlessly underestimate his opponents, Sonic is still a jokester at times, he's rebellious and loves helping others, but also knows when to take situations seriously. Especially with the Titans; after losing a fight to the first one, he knows that being in the super state is the only way to beat them, and even retreats if confronted when Sonic doesn't have the chaos emeralds. Correction: Sonic takes situations seriously especially with Sage. Instead of him just trash-talking her when Sage tells Sonic to leave the area or even attempting to eliminate him, he instead wants answers about the situation and even wants to help Sage.
Words cannot describe how amazingly written everyone is. Sonic isn’t just careless, cocky, and arrogant (Unlike the meta era) Tails isn’t a coward, Knuckles isn’t a joke, and Amy isn’t Sonic obsessed. Hell, even Eggman has gotten better, he’s not just a joke anymore. Also I absolutely love that they did callbacks to previous games and added more lore to the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald. AND STICKS IS FINALLY CANNON. Plus Eggman seeing Sage as his daughter is very adorable and sad by the ending. Overall I really, really love this. Even though it only had like 5 characters from the previous games, those 5 were able to achieve their former glory, or even became better than that. I hope that this writing can transfer over to other characters like Shadow. I am waiting for Shadow’s character to be repaired. :D
This game adds another dimension to these characters that I absolutely love. Eggman's storyline is absolute gold. If Jim Carrey doesn't have a hologram daughter by the fourth movie, I'll be very upset.
I love how the game showcases the bond between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Things like Sonic telling Knuckles "you aren't alone you have us" and the moment near the end where the latter three gather around to hold hands to free Sonic and even the ending. It makes you feel like these guys are friends who have been on many adventures together, despite being the main 4 no other game has really emphasized their bond in the same way, outside of working together with one another.
Man Eggman and Sage's relation is awesome, seing Eggman actually caring for someone is great. Not like metal being used as a weapon most times, nor orbot and cubot being thrown around. This bound is nice, Eggman finally getting some good character development, like the others too!
Agreed! I really hope Sage comes back in future games so we can see more cute scenes with her and Eggman; plus I want to see her meet the other robots in her new family.
I honestly love how sonic kept telling the one person who could explain everything. "Tell me what's going on and I'll figure out what to do from there." Kind of shows that he's not just some hothead anymore. Still cocky but he's always open to listening. Plus Sage has already become a loved character from what I can tell.
And it's a great character moment. He is isn't brashly confident or uncaring. He knows he's here because someone needs help and he just wants to earnestly get to it. True heart of a hero.

1:04:15 Has my heart, Tails and Sonic's communication is just what i need to have a great friendship. Even when Sage goes on to say "A family born by love not genetics" it was so heartwarming yet so sad. Just afterwards she wishes she had this kind of friendship and i couldn't help but to relate.
I’m so happy that Amy became more mature in this game! Honestly, she’s been one of my favorite female leads, so seeing her being more than just a “Sonic obsessed stalker girl” as many people put it, is something I really appreciate, I’m glad Sega and the Sonic Team took this approach
I. LOVE. SAGE. She can seem cold and distant at first but once she learns to open up, she's highly empathetic and emotional. That's just like me. So yeah I relate to her. The scene where she cries because she wishes for everyone to be saved, but thinks they're all doomed in the end really hit me. Also it's adorable that Eggman considers her his daughter too. And I'm so, SO glad she isn't actually dead. I knew Eggman could find a way to gather her data and get it back. After all she's an AI, her body can die without her counsciousness dying. But I wonder, will Eggman put her in an exact copy of the body we saw her in here, or create a slightly different body ? I personally think that since her turning light blue is representative of her growing as a character and accepting to give Sonic and friends a chance, her new body will be the exact same, but entirely light blue. No red at all, and maybe no glitch effect. But I'm not entirely sure about that since this glitchy effect represents Cyber Space and she probably still has her Cyber Space knowledge and abilities to travel within it. I think she's my new favorite character. Design, personality, development... I love everything about her.
I hope we'll see her in spin off games and the eventual sequel that will build upon Adventure 2 the same way this game built upon Adventure 1. She could meet Metal Sonic, Shadow and Silver, who could have similar roles to Amy, Knuckles and Tails in this game. With Metal Sonic that she would definitly consider her brother, Shadow who's dealt with an enormous amount of identity crisis, and Silver who also almost lost everything he cares about, she would continue to grow as a character. And crazy thought, maybe that after expanding upon Adventure 1 with Frontiers and upon Adventure 2 with its eventual sequel, they'll give us Adventure 3. There wouldn't be a better time.

I’m a little biased, but I gotta say this is one of my favorite versions of Amy. It didn’t go over my head that they made her deflect her trauma “I’m fine” she says as she’s literally phasing in and out of reality “I need to help people in need” I love how they approached her character. And I love that they took all of Sonic’s BEST friends, and gave them goals to look forward to. Amy wants to travel around and help people in need, Knuckles wants to see the world to its fullest, and Tails wants to go on his own adventures and be his own hero. All of these scenes made me ball my god damn eyes out. Not only that, but Sonic experiences actual emotions! From the beginning where he’s stressed about his missing friends, to pointing out Amy blatantly ignoring her own problems, joking around with Knuckles, and being sad to see Tails grow up so fast. It’s all so beautiful. And Eggman has actual depth! I- When have we EVER seen that? It’s so amazing … But the thing that makes me the absolute happiest The thing that brings me the GREATEST joy Is knowing one day… One day, there will be a Snapcube Dub, as these cutscenes are a cinematic MASTERPIECE. @@jaredtherock5692 You kinda have to piece it together with different bits of info spread across the game We know that some of the ancients did infact survive the End’s attack and left for angel island because in the Knuckles’ prologue there’s a cyberspace gate on angel island Not to mention on Rhea island the older ancient and another one are having a conversation about what they’ll do if they fail to beat the end, and their plan is to gather a group of ancients to take the chaos emeralds to the “larger one that drew us here”, so that’s also how we know that’s what they did. Eggman says in the memos that the surviving ancient’s DNA corroded due to “some type of radiation” which adds up since we know that Chaos was created through a Chao coming into contact with the master emeralds radiation So in short, some of the ancients survived and resettled on angel island, the master emerald turned them into chao and Chaos is a rare case of a chao who managed to reverse the reaction and return to an ancient-like form, which probably explains why he’s also more intelligent than regular Chao.
Anybody just love how at the end Sonic says " Well that was fun." And the three give the "Why the f***ck did you say that." face. Also Cream and Sticks finally hinted again by Amy. And I love how Sega admits its faults in tails dialouge with sonic that they made tails "inconsistent" as to being saved/ on the sidelines to saving the day with sonic and holding his own. We also learn Amy wants to bring beauty to the world, Knuckles has loneliness issues, and Tails strives to be hero material again! Good job, Sega!cool! Edit: Thank you for so many likes omg!
It's a testament to Sonic as a friend and hero how he endures so much anguish from the cyber corruption to save his friends, each who decide to go their own ways from him to pursue other plans. He's suffering, but he hides it and supports them.
I deeply appreciate what they’ve done for this game, and the direction they’ve now placed Sonic into. It feels like a renaissance, and a coming of age for the character. The overall voice direction is by far the best the games have seen, and Roger is in a state where the character has felt the most in character by any of Roger’s performances up to date. I actually enjoy modern Sonic once again. I still hold preference for Ryan Drummond, and think he is a better casting as a tiny blue hedgehog. But, with that, and because of the direction of acting here in this game, I can finally understand WHY a Sonic fan would say Roger is their favorite Sonic. Roger isn’t untalented, he has skill, and it’s nice to see him finally get a chance to do more then slapstick Saturday morning comedy routines. If this is a first introduction to the character for some, I can be reasoned to believe that, yes, Roger brought something to the character that made him likable. Roger wasn’t just voicing Sonic, he was acting as Sonic. And that’s powerful for audiences. The most refreshing thing about this game, is the writing. At last we have stories that create development, growth, and garner emotion. An acknowledgment to past games and the lore that was pre-established is how a world like Sonic the Hedgehog strengthens. Sonic’s friends are no longer just background noise like they’ve generically been treated within this past decade. They have range, heart, and relatability. *THIS* is Sonic the Hedgehog. He’s still different, he’s not the Ryan Drummond 90’s punk-rocker of the Dreamcast era for me. But he has instances of that Sonic that’s adapted within itself to the new age of gaming. I once again find myself confidently optimistic towards the Hedgehog’s future.
I'm definitely hoping this is the direction they follow. I like that universe actually feels connected again, with references to Adventure, and even Unleashed gets a nice callback. The voice acting is definitely the best it's been for a good while. The humor is also better, its not cringy quips, but instead genuinely funny one off lines Sonic's future is definitely looking bright if this is the way we go.
Dude the fact that this game references all of Sonic's past enemies and memories is just amazing. Like when Tails mentioned Dark Gaia, or when Sage mentioned Neo Metal from Sonic Heroes. God i haven't even played this game and it already feels like the best sonic game I've ever seen

Is it me, or is Knuckles being a much better commander than he was in Forces? Also love the scene where Sonic breaks the 4th wall by referencing the classic goal post and the good ol goal ring. Unlike from Colours to TSR, it doesn't feel forced and unnecessary.

1:41:30 Not only did Ian Flynn reworked the Ancients lore from Sonic Boom into the games, but now Sticks herself is also canon and they’ve apparently already known her for a while.
@@OhKayEl neither of those are mainline Sonic games, and the Olympic Games especially are completely non-canon. However, Ian Flynn did mention in an interview 4 years ago that Sega intended to make Sticks part of the mainline continuity and that she would have been best friends with Amy since they were young, so it looks like this is finally laying down the narrative groundwork for that.
These characters... are finally acting like themselves, they acknowledged Tails' character growth from SA1 and his many inconsistencies afterwards, Knuckles is not a bumbling idiot for the sake of physical comedy, and Amy is compassionate and has other goals besides her love for Sonic, there's some weird sudden pop-in in some of the scenes, and it looks wrong, but despite that, seeing these characters be themselves for the first time in a while made me smile quite a bit, I'm glad they're going on the right direction for once.

I wonder how many people here in the comments read the IDW comics, the characters really changed after the Eggman war and the metal virus, I'm just sad the newer characters never made it into the game, i think Amy changed the most after the war, she matured so much she's basically a different character. Ian Flynn and his team are amazing writers and what the sonic series needs.
I really wanna see Tangle in the game. She's a fun girl and would be crazy fun to play as. Whisper is basically a cooler version on the OC character in forces so idk about her, but she's still a good character

I think this story is setting up adventure 3. Amy sounds like she plans a trip with cream and cheese, Tails is gonna be more independent and even knuckles plans on adventuring more. Amazing story and I can't wait for the next instalment.
One of the things that I most liked in the story ih how they humanize Eggman in the final Like, he might be a mad scientist who wants to defeat sonic and take over the world, but he's still a human who have feelings and things that he consider precious and want to take care The way they show this is so awesome

It's great Sonic characters are able to show strong emotions again, considering issues with the Archie comics dictated that Sonic characters can't cry or show overwhelming emotion, among other things

Out of all the Sonic games that I have played, this one has to be the darkest and the most emotional. But that's exactly what makes this story engaging.
Dang, this ending gave Eggman the slightest of better reputations. This man made an AI, called it his *KID,* and then by the looks of it, legitimately felt hurt when it went kaboom. Sure, Eggman feels SOMETHING when his badniks get bashed, and this might only be me, but I don't think Eggman's ever really felt sorrow to the destruction of a creation of his. Makes me feel like there's a slim chance that Good ol' Baldy McNosehair could have some kind of rehabilitation in some crazy, strange alternate universe.
This is the game where I feel like they just accepted that Sonic is in like his thirties by now. They finally have his ears move when he emotes. And we finally remember that Tails had a psicotic break that one time.
Man I havent played a fully fleshed out and serious Story mode in a Sonic Game since the Adventure era games. Glad This game brought me right back to those memories. Sonic Team is finally listening to the fans!
This is an amazing story. The way they're all written is just the best. The only issue I have is that Sonic recovered too quickly from being corrupted. That could've been a moment where you get to play as the other characters to try to bring him back. It could've actually held some weight. I was shocked at first, but the game didn't give time for the effects of it to actually be felt. Like I said, beautiful story, but that one part brought it down a bit for me.
I already knew that Sonic was the only playable character, but when Sonic was corrupted and the others were saying stuff about helping, I did kind of think that we were gonna play as them.
I think for the story as a whole, the ending was somewhat overwhelming. Without spoilering it, the last island felt a little rushed in terms of its execution with the emerald collection, and the boss reveal. I didn’t mind the last boss of the game, though I feel that it could have been introduced in a better way. It felt a little underwhelming But aside from that, almost everything else was fantastic. Granted the game isn’t perfect, but why expect perfection when it’s unrealistic? Maybe not the *absolute best* at the end, but overall this is definitely one of my favorite sonic games to date, and a big step in the right direction for the modern sonic era

Metal is a battle bot. Metal Sonic is his favorite creation but Sage has more life in her than Metal does. Metal mainly blindly orders while Sage can talk back

The very end where are you hear father? And Eggman saying that’s my girl that is really touching. I know Eggman is always been a threat and he can be a clown but I really felt for him in this one. It just makes me think that maybe the character can be a little more serious and maybe he might actually be more of a recurring villain but not as deadly but it does show real good character development that he’s not just a madman trying to take over the world he actually cares about things

This was a fantastic evolution and love letter to the 3D series of titles. Having a condensed cast of the Boom Four, but rooted in the history that is now being consistent and aware of its canon is so refreshing despite reusing the classic stages. In fact, I’m hoping that Sonic Frontiers starts a new arc like SA1/2. If there is a SF2, I want to see those nuance characterization and goals go to those places mentioned. Let’s create full blown biomes of the cyberspace levels in the real world, but instead of 2D elements, integrate the open frontier design. Let’s say Sonic travels these new open zone areas to meet up with Tails and check in on how he’s doing being a leader, or Amy’s road-trip with Cream and Sticks, and maybe catch up with Knuckles on his world journey. If Sonic team continues this with more polish, they can have a new rival to Sonic Adventure 2 as the best Sonic game! Oh and they gotta have Eggman install Sage’s AI into a new robot body and have her meet her brothers!
I love that after his defeat to the Giganto Titan, Sonic wakes up in a cold sweat. Almost like while he was knocked out, he dreamt he had truly lost and that the world was in complete ruins because of his failure. Even if he knew it was a dream, it was a horrifying experience nonetheless. Both being defeated in such a way and said nightmare.

Knuckles believe that the surviving ancients made home on Angel Island, it’s possible they would change over time and become Chao. The mutation on one of the Chao may have been a possible restoration but without the Koco charms to store data, may have resorted to a brain that became Chaos Zero.

According to the Eggmemo, Eggman speculated that the Ancients liquid bodies are due to a mutation, similar to how Chaos went from a Chao to his current look.
really hope Sage gets more use as she has the chance to become a fan favourite character who gives Eggman a much more human connection than Orbot and Cubot do, don't get me wrong they have their place in the franchise but giving Eggman a creation who he genuinely loves and views as a daughter is a very different dynamic. She could be both an ally to Sonic as well as loyal to Eggman as her father and it would be different to Shadow because he is basically just a rogue who works with whoever he thinks is good for his life
I’m so glad this game was good- the story, the animation, the emotion is great! The story for each character was really well done and I almost cried at the ending because of how emotional it felt towards me and others too.(you know, you know) Sure there’s a few game glitches but this is SEGAS first huge open sonic game so I can understand why.
I think what could change the outcome of the story is getting Koco missions completed first instead of jumping to save his friends. Destroying the titans can come last. But that is if the stage that you start off with can be completed before saving Sonic’s friends and unlocking a new move. If you keep chasing missions that involves helping the Kocos, it could change how you interact with his friends and it could change how Sage responds to Sonic, too. I am getting Breath of the Wild vibes from this game so it might be possible to change the outcome of the event by how much you explore each island.

It actually makes him seem like his name. This game was done well and even more history on the chaos emeralds and new species, Super Sonic is back better than ever same with the chaos emeralds but a old reference was brought back. Remember when Knuckles hit sonic out of Super Sonic that shows he wasn’t invincible well they brought it back with the lasers. I really love the cutscenes of this game , even though i haven't played it for myself to see the cutscenes up-close , these cutscenes are AMAZING. They add so much depth and layers to the characters. Amy doesn't lust for Sonic 24/7 , Tails feels more serious and Knuckles feels like a brother to sonic. I hope future sonic games have good cutscenes like this.
Honestly, im not fully through into these cutscenes. But i really feel like ian really wanted to express the lows of sonic’s past games, specifically when sage is crying after seeing tails and sonic together, you start to realize that if this was the same ordinary game as the others like Sonic Forces, sonic being cocky all the time, amy being obsessed with sonic, knuckles being a distant type, and tails being a scaredy-cat. sage would just view them as enemies. But since ian gave a special touch to these characters and there qualities and personalities. Its really different. And i love all the characters and the way they are more expressive. The Sonic franchise game-wise is looking bright. Keep going sonic team. Please keep ian flynn as the lead writer. And honestly, i will say, even show-wise sonic is getting better. With sonic prime giving an amazing season 1. Im hyped for whats next to come on sega’s agenda with there blue mascot and his friends.
I really really really wish life was like this slightly or much more often, seeing Sonic, his friends, and others in new great action. Frontiers will be exciting, but in the next future I will like it a lot if characters like Silver the Hedgehog, Blaze the Cat, Jet the Hawk, Wave the Swallow, and Storm the Albatross reappear. The cutscenes are very exciting and interesting. Yes, but although we will see characters like Tails and Knuckles, unfortunately, they are not playable. I also wish Tails and Knuckles were also playable for old times sake.

I like the story, but now it adds more questions to the Sonic mythos and lore. If the Chaos Emeralds were alien/cosmic in origin, who made the Master Emerald? Why were the Chaos Emeralds drawn to the Master Emerald in the first place when the Ancients didn't create it, and merely found it? When did the Ancients arrive, before or during the conflict of Light/Dark Gaia?
I like to think every planet has something similar to the emeralds, for sonics planet it was the master emerald and probably phantom ruby for the ancients it is the main 7. Knowing that the emeralds are from space can bring in more story opportunities tho imagine villains with the power of more than 7 emeralds.
I remember hearing that the Master Emerald was made by the gods to stop people from misusing the Chaos Emeralds, since it has the power to neutralise them. But I think that might be in-lore speculation, might be worth to double check.
Hmm.. I think this game needs a lore-filled DLC episode or.. Comic book explanations.. For a story and lore driven game, it opens up more questions about the lore rather than answering them.

I'm super curious on how this works with all the other ancient civilisations said to have meddled with the Chaos Emeralds. If Ancients = Chaos = Chao, then that colony living at the Master Emerald shrine must've been there for tens of thousands of years before the echidnas showed up. That leaves only 3000 years for all of these other civilisations to have gotten their hands on them. It's especially weird w the Babylonians bc they messed with the emeralds so long ago that they've also evolved into a different species. Are we expected to believe they went from alien genie things to anthro birds in 3000 years? mm.

I like that they are going with the chaos emeralds being from outer space and transported by an alien race. It's similar to the original origin for them from the old Archie comics.
I love Sonic and Knuckles’ interactions in this game! Not only do they sound super similar, but they’re like brothers having banter with each other! Major props to Roger and Dave! Their acting sounds so smooth and natural. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were chuckling behind the microphone! 🦔💙❤️
I honestly love what they did with Sonic’s cyber corruption. It doesn’t just affect him during cutscenes; if you pay close attention, his idle animation is affected as well as the corruption worsens. On the third island (after he finds Tails), he’s holding his head and slightly squinting, and on the fourth island he’s kneeling down and panting.
Too bad the whole corruption plotpoint ends by the end of the 4th island (really just island 3.5 with a crap ton of lore dumps), and the resolution of it all just felt underwhelming.
Like, he's corrupted and trapped between realities for like 2 minutes, and saved in the exact same cutscene as his friends just say some words of encouragement and proceed to absorb themselves into him.
It would have been a good chance to have a Sonic 06-esque End Of The World section, playing as Tails, Knux, Amy and maybe even Sage.

The story in this game is great, and really brings out the best of each character, but I just always love those little nods to past games. Especially when its in such a lighthearted way that Sonic can deliver.

42:00 This whole bit was great, Sonic was dying to crack a joke at the beginning but quickly noticed Knuckles mood and was respectful to have a deep moment with him, I want more of this, this is character growth, these two have known each other since Sonic 3 and to see something outside knuckles being treated as a meathead or sonic poking fun at him is just such a breath of fresh air for these two.

I am SO glad that the characterisation for Sonic,Eggman,Knuckles,Amy and Tails are back to the right direction. Especially Sonic being able inspire characters like Tails and not being annoying,Eggman who could actually be taken seriously and not be a clown,Amy with her crush with Sonic not even being in the game and showing her kindness and compassion personality and Tails not being a coward or a information bot and to have doubts but remembering the time saved a town and rescue Sonic from a trap and Knuckles in the prologue has told themselves. I finally gain my hope for the franchise again.

@@markofthewolvessucks8930 yah I can say as somebody who finished the main story that it feels nice that the characters are done correctly still jokes in there but there not corny really and some are actually a little funny I loved how amy and tails is handled especially because I don’t dislike those characters at all but in recent games they just made them annoying and or useless but in this game it’s a way more serious tone in every aspect than what we got recently this is a step in the right direction praying that they take this formula and only improve on it 😭
The right direction they just need to stay that way and improve even more, Sonic has everything to be bigger again, I believe in this.

I'm glad Sonic Frontiers did Sonic's character right. Unlike Forces or Colors where Sonic seems to mindlessly underestimate his opponents, Sonic is still a jokester at times, he's rebellious and loves helping others, but also knows when to take situations seriously. Especially with the Titans; after losing a fight to the first one, he knows that being in the super state is the only way to beat them, and even retreats if confronted when Sonic doesn't have the chaos emeralds.
Correction: Sonic takes situations seriously especially with Sage. Instead of him just trash-talking her when Sage tells Sonic to leave the area or even attempting to eliminate him, he instead wants answers about the situation and even wants to help Sage.
Like the Bayonetta from 1 and 2, a shit talker, but knows when to get serious.
It helps that in those games it was about just beating eggman in this he's trying to save his friends from being trapped.

Sonic isn’t just careless, cocky, and arrogant (Unlike the meta era) Tails isn’t a coward, Knuckles isn’t a joke, and Amy isn’t Sonic obsessed.
Hell, even Eggman has gotten better, he’s not just a joke anymore.
Also I absolutely love that they did callbacks to previous games and added more lore to the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald. AND STICKS IS FINALLY CANNON.
Plus Eggman seeing Sage as his daughter is very adorable and sad by the ending.
Overall I really, really love this. Even though it only had like 5 characters from the previous games, those 5 were able to achieve their former glory, or even became better than that. I hope that this writing can transfer over to other characters like Shadow. I am waiting for Shadow’s character to be repaired.

This game adds another dimension to these characters that I absolutely love. Eggman's storyline is absolute gold. If Jim Carrey doesn't have a hologram daughter by the fourth movie, I'll be very upset.

There's a scene where he waves sonic goodbye while he's dying.
I love how the game showcases the bond between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Things like Sonic telling Knuckles "you aren't alone you have us" and the moment near the end where the latter three gather around to hold hands to free Sonic and even the ending. It makes you feel like these guys are friends who have been on many adventures together, despite being the main 4 no other game has really emphasized their bond in the same way, outside of working together with one another.
Man Eggman and Sage's relation is awesome, seing Eggman actually caring for someone is great.
Not like metal being used as a weapon most times, nor orbot and cubot being thrown around.
This bound is nice, Eggman finally getting some good character development, like the others too!

The animation here blew me away in terms of Sonic’s expressions. Keep in mind that this is the model that they used in Forces where he was flat in terms of animation and expression. The way they used his ears to convey his emotions was both adorable and amazing

I’m so happy that Amy became more mature in this game! Honestly, she’s been one of my favorite female leads, so seeing her being more than just a “Sonic obsessed stalker girl” as many people put it, is something I really appreciate, I’m glad Sega and the Sonic Team took this approach

She can seem cold and distant at first but once she learns to open up, she's highly empathetic and emotional. That's just like me. So yeah I relate to her.
The scene where she cries because she wishes for everyone to be saved, but thinks they're all doomed in the end really hit me.
Also it's adorable that Eggman considers her his daughter too. And I'm so, SO glad she isn't actually dead. I knew Eggman could find a way to gather her data and get it back.
After all she's an AI, her body can die without her counsciousness dying. But I wonder, will Eggman put her in an exact copy of the body we saw her in here, or create a slightly different body ?
I personally think that since her turning light blue is representative of her growing as a character and accepting to give Sonic and friends a chance, her new body will be the exact same, but entirely light blue.
No red at all, and maybe no glitch effect. But I'm not entirely sure about that since this glitchy effect represents Cyber Space and she probably still has her Cyber Space knowledge and abilities to travel within it.
I think she's my new favorite character. Design, personality, development... I love everything about her.

I hope we'll see her in spin off games and the eventual sequel that will build upon Adventure 2 the same way this game built upon Adventure 1.
She could meet Metal Sonic, Shadow and Silver, who could have similar roles to Amy, Knuckles and Tails in this game.
With Metal Sonic that she would definitly consider her brother, Shadow who's dealt with an enormous amount of identity crisis, and Silver who also almost lost everything he cares about, she would continue to grow as a character.
And crazy thought, maybe that after expanding upon Adventure 1 with Frontiers and upon Adventure 2 with its eventual sequel, they'll give us Adventure 3. There wouldn't be a better time.

I’m a little biased, but I gotta say this is one of my favorite versions of Amy.

And I love that they took all of Sonic’s BEST friends, and gave them goals to look forward to. Amy wants to travel around and help people in need, Knuckles wants to see the world to its fullest, and Tails wants to go on his own adventures and be his own hero.
All of these scenes made me ball my god damn eyes out.
Not only that, but Sonic experiences actual emotions! From the beginning where he’s stressed about his missing friends, to pointing out Amy blatantly ignoring her own problems, joking around with Knuckles, and being sad to see Tails grow up so fast. It’s all so beautiful.
And Eggman has actual depth!

We know that some of the ancients did infact survive the End’s attack and left for angel island because in the Knuckles’ prologue there’s a cyberspace gate on angel island
Not to mention on Rhea island the older ancient and another one are having a conversation about what they’ll do if they fail to beat the end, and their plan is to gather a group of ancients to take the chaos emeralds to the “larger one that drew us here”, so that’s also how we know that’s what they did.
Eggman says in the memos that the surviving ancient’s DNA corroded due to “some type of radiation” which adds up since we know that Chaos was created through a Chao coming into contact with the master emeralds radiation
So in short, some of the ancients survived and resettled on angel island, the master emerald turned them into chao and Chaos is a rare case of a chao who managed to reverse the reaction and return to an ancient-like form, which probably explains why he’s also more intelligent than regular Chao.
Anybody just love how at the end Sonic says " Well that was fun." And the three give the "Why the f***ck did you say that." face. Also Cream and Sticks finally hinted again by Amy. And I love how Sega admits its faults in tails dialouge with sonic that they made tails "inconsistent" as to being saved/ on the sidelines to saving the day with sonic and holding his own. We also learn Amy wants to bring beauty to the world, Knuckles has loneliness issues, and Tails strives to be hero material again! Good job, Sega!cool!

It's a testament to Sonic as a friend and hero how he endures so much anguish from the cyber corruption to save his friends, each who decide to go their own ways from him to pursue other plans. He's suffering, but he hides it and supports them.
I deeply appreciate what they’ve done for this game, and the direction they’ve now placed Sonic into. It feels like a renaissance, and a coming of age for the character.
The overall voice direction is by far the best the games have seen, and Roger is in a state where the character has felt the most in character by any of Roger’s performances up to date. I actually enjoy modern Sonic once again. I still hold preference for Ryan Drummond, and think he is a better casting as a tiny blue hedgehog. But, with that, and because of the direction of acting here in this game, I can finally understand WHY a Sonic fan would say Roger is their favorite Sonic. Roger isn’t untalented, he has skill, and it’s nice to see him finally get a chance to do more then slapstick Saturday morning comedy routines. If this is a first introduction to the character for some, I can be reasoned to believe that, yes, Roger brought something to the character that made him likable. Roger wasn’t just voicing Sonic, he was acting as Sonic. And that’s powerful for audiences.
The most refreshing thing about this game, is the writing. At last we have stories that create development, growth, and garner emotion. An acknowledgment to past games and the lore that was pre-established is how a world like Sonic the Hedgehog strengthens. Sonic’s friends are no longer just background noise like they’ve generically been treated within this past decade. They have range, heart, and relatability.
*THIS* is Sonic the Hedgehog. He’s still different, he’s not the Ryan Drummond 90’s punk-rocker of the Dreamcast era for me. But he has instances of that Sonic that’s adapted within itself to the new age of gaming.
I once again find myself confidently optimistic towards the Hedgehog’s future.
I'm definitely hoping this is the direction they follow. I like that universe actually feels connected again, with references to Adventure, and even Unleashed gets a nice callback.
The voice acting is definitely the best it's been for a good while.
The humor is also better, its not cringy quips, but instead genuinely funny one off lines
Sonic's future is definitely looking bright if this is the way we go.
I'd recommend Sonic & Tails R if you wanna hear Drummond Sonic at his best.

Dude the fact that this game references all of Sonic's past enemies and memories is just amazing. Like when Tails mentioned Dark Gaia, or when Sage mentioned Neo Metal from Sonic Heroes. God i haven't even played this game and it already feels like the best sonic game I've ever seen

Um, hello? She's been canon for a long time now. She's been in Sonic Runners (a Sonic Team game) and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Rio 2016.
@@OhKayEl neither of those are mainline Sonic games, and the Olympic Games especially are completely non-canon. However, Ian Flynn did mention in an interview 4 years ago that Sega intended to make Sticks part of the mainline continuity and that she would have been best friends with Amy since they were young, so it looks like this is finally laying down the narrative groundwork for that.

These characters... are finally acting like themselves, they acknowledged Tails' character growth from SA1 and his many inconsistencies afterwards, Knuckles is not a bumbling idiot for the sake of physical comedy, and Amy is compassionate and has other goals besides her love for Sonic, there's some weird sudden pop-in in some of the scenes, and it looks wrong, but despite that, seeing these characters be themselves for the first time in a while made me smile quite a bit, I'm glad they're going on the right direction for once.
Also Sticks is canon to the mainline series now? That's very interesting.

I wonder how many people here in the comments read the IDW comics, the characters really changed after the Eggman war and the metal virus, I'm just sad the newer characters never made it into the game, i think Amy changed the most after the war, she matured so much she's basically a different character. I think this story is setting up adventure 3. Amy sounds like she plans a trip with cream and cheese, Tails is gonna be more independent and even knuckles plans on adventuring more. Amazing story and I can't wait for the next instalment.

Out of all the Sonic games that I have played, this one has to be the darkest and the most emotional. But that's exactly what makes this story engaging.

Dang, this ending gave Eggman the slightest of better reputations. This man made an AI, called it his *KID,* and then by the looks of it, legitimately felt hurt when it went kaboom. Sure, Eggman feels SOMETHING when his badniks get bashed, and this might only be me, but I don't think Eggman's ever really felt sorrow to the destruction of a creation of his. Makes me feel like there's a slim chance that Good ol' Baldy McNosehair could have some kind of rehabilitation in some crazy, strange alternate universe.
I was a little skeptical about how this game would go at first. But the story itself blows my mind and can't wait to get my hands on it.
Some cutscenes are so heart-warming. Sometimes I brierly cried during heart-warming scenes.
It took a lot out of me to hold those tears back.

This is an amazing story. The way they're all written is just the best. The only issue I have is that Sonic recovered too quickly from being corrupted. That could've been a moment where you get to play as the other characters to try to bring him back. It could've actually held some weight. I was shocked at first, but the game didn't give time for the effects of it to actually be felt.
Like I said, beautiful story, but that one part brought it down a bit for me.

I already knew that Sonic was the only playable character, but when Sonic was corrupted and the others were saying stuff about helping, I did kind of think that we were gonna play as them.
I think for the story as a whole, the ending was somewhat overwhelming. Without spoilering it, the last island felt a little rushed in terms of its execution with the emerald collection, and the boss reveal. I didn’t mind the last boss of the game, though I feel that it could have been introduced in a better way. It felt a little underwhelming
But aside from that, almost everything else was fantastic. Granted the game isn’t perfect, but why expect perfection when it’s unrealistic? Maybe not the *absolute best* at the end, but overall this is definitely one of my favorite sonic games to date, and a big step in the right direction for the modern sonic era

The very end where are you hear father? And Eggman saying that’s my girl that is really touching. I know Eggman is always been a threat and he can be a clown but I really felt for him in this one. It just makes me think that maybe the character can be a little more serious and maybe he might actually be more of a recurring villain but not as deadly but it does show real good character development that he’s not just a madman trying to take over the world he actually cares about things

This was a fantastic evolution and love letter to the 3D series of titles. Having a condensed cast of the Boom Four, but rooted in the history that is now being consistent and aware of its canon is so refreshing despite reusing the classic stages. In fact, I’m hoping that Sonic Frontiers starts a new arc like SA1/2. If there is a SF2, I want to see those nuance characterization and goals go to those places mentioned. Let’s create full blown biomes of the cyberspace levels in the real world, but instead of 2D elements, integrate the open frontier design. Let’s say Sonic travels these new open zone areas to meet up with Tails and check in on how he’s doing being a leader, or Amy’s road-trip with Cream and Sticks, and maybe catch up with Knuckles on his world journey. If Sonic team continues this with more polish, they can have a new rival to Sonic Adventure 2 as the best Sonic game! Oh and they gotta have Eggman install Sage’s AI into a new robot body and have her meet her brothers!
I love that after his defeat to the Giganto Titan, Sonic wakes up in a cold sweat. Almost like while he was knocked out, he dreamt he had truly lost and that the world was in complete ruins because of his failure. Even if he knew it was a dream, it was a horrifying experience nonetheless. Both being defeated in such a way and said nightmare.

Knuckles believe that the surviving ancients made home on Angel Island, it’s possible they would change over time and become Chao. The mutation on one of the Chao may have been a possible restoration but without the Koco charms to store data, may have resorted to a brain that became Chaos Zero.

really hope Sage gets more use as she has the chance to become a fan favourite character who gives Eggman a much more human connection than Orbot and Cubot do, don't get me wrong they have their place in the franchise but giving Eggman a creation who he genuinely loves and views as a daughter is a very different dynamic. She could be both an ally to Sonic as well as loyal to Eggman as her father and it would be different to Shadow because he is basically just a rogue who works with whoever he thinks is good for his life

The story for each character was really well done and I almost cried at the ending because of how emotional it felt towards me and others too.(you know, you know)
Sure there’s a few game glitches but this is SEGAS first huge open sonic game so I can understand why.
I think what could change the outcome of the story is getting Koco missions completed first instead of jumping to save his friends. Destroying the titans can come last.
But that is if the stage that you start off with can be completed before saving Sonic’s friends and unlocking a new move.
If you keep chasing missions that involves helping the Kocos, it could change how you interact with his friends and it could change how Sage responds to Sonic, too.
I am getting Breath of the Wild vibes from this game so it might be possible to change the outcome of the event by how much you explore each island.

It actually makes him seem like his name. This game was done well and even more history on the chaos emeralds and new species, Super Sonic is back better than ever same with the chaos emeralds but a old reference was brought back. Remember when Knuckles hit sonic out of Super Sonic that shows he wasn’t invincible well they brought it back with the lasers. Another well done to Ian Flynn and thank you all the VA in this for making this games possible😮💨💯

I really love the cutscenes of this game , even though i haven't played it for myself to see the cutscenes up-close , these cutscenes are AMAZING. They add so much depth and layers to the characters. Amy doesn't lust for Sonic 24/7 , Tails feels more serious and Knuckles feels like a brother to sonic. I hope future sonic games have good cutscenes like this.
Honestly, im not fully through into these cutscenes. But i really feel like ian really wanted to express the lows of sonic’s past games, specifically when sage is crying after seeing tails and sonic together, you start to realize that if this was the same ordinary game as the others like Sonic Forces, sonic being cocky all the time, amy being obsessed with sonic, knuckles being a distant type, and tails being a scaredy-cat. sage would just view them as enemies. But since ian gave a special touch to these characters and there qualities and personalities. Its really different. And i love all the characters and the way they are more expressive. The Sonic franchise game-wise is looking bright. Keep going sonic team. Please keep ian flynn as the lead writer. And honestly, i will say, even show-wise sonic is getting better. The cutscenes are very exciting and interesting. Yes, but although we will see characters like Tails and Knuckles, unfortunately, they are not playable. If the Chaos Emeralds were alien/cosmic in origin, who made the Master Emerald? Why were the Chaos Emeralds drawn to the Master Emerald in the first place when the Ancients didn't create it, and merely found it? When did the Ancients arrive, before or during the conflict of Light/Dark Gaia?
I like to think every planet has something similar to the emeralds, for sonics planet it was the master emerald and probably phantom ruby for the ancients it is the main 7. Knowing that the emeralds are from space can bring in more story opportunities tho imagine villains with the power of more than 7 emeralds.
I remember hearing that the Master Emerald was made by the gods to stop people from misusing the Chaos Emeralds, since it has the power to neutralise them. But I think that might be in-lore speculation, might be worth to double check.
Hmm.. I think this game needs a lore-filled DLC episode or.. Comic book explanations.. For a story and lore driven game, it opens up more questions about the lore rather than answering them.

I'm super curious on how this works with all the other ancient civilisations said to have meddled with the Chaos Emeralds. If Ancients = Chaos = Chao, then that colony living at the Master Emerald shrine must've been there for tens of thousands of years before the echidnas showed up. That leaves only 3000 years for all of these other civilisations to have gotten their hands on them. It's especially weird w the Babylonians bc they messed with the emeralds so long ago that they've also evolved into a different species. Are we expected to believe they went from alien genie things to anthro birds in 3000 years? mm.

I like that they are going with the chaos emeralds being from outer space and transported by an alien race. It's similar to the original origin for them from the old Archie comics.
Perhaps SEGA is taking the old lore that worked (while discard what really, REALLY did not), and stitching it into the modern canon?
Though it is int that the Master Emerald is originally part of Sonic's planet.
