    Before the Sam Harris fanboys come in
    Chomsky is NOT saying its all geopolitics
    Chomsky is NOT saying it has nothing to do with religion
    Chomsky is saying we don't consider other outside factors nearly enough

      That's just simply *wrong*. ...
      I'd suggest you listen to Harris' own word instead of those trying to relay them twisted to suit their own agenda.

      I haven't time right now for finding a timestamp, but while Harris do think Islam as a religion is a fundamental part of the problem he doesn't deny that there has been numerous foreign policy blunders which have played a part too.
      Try listen to his podcasts.

    I get the Sam Harris argument, but if we are talking about terrorism specifically targeted at the West, look no further than our own policy. Our own government admits it which is very rare

    If there is a powerful military-industrial complex and if there is such a thing as corporatocracy, then one might have to say that there is just no money in peace.
    I want to believe that there must be other ways of making money and that this is just a misallocation of capital.

    Where are most islamic terrorist acts conducted? Anyone know if Chomsky has ever addressed this question? Most appear to occur within islamic societies, which would imply an internal cultural/religious problem. How would Chomsky rationalize the killing of coptics to western foreign policy? How about attacks in Russia and China, is that due to western foreign policy as well?

    • @lotcam4046

    I tend to side more with Harris on this issue . However , i find Chomsky's approach to be very level headed and plausible also . There is truth on both sides of the isle here , but to me the problem originates with ideological indoctrination .

      Sam Harris is absolutely right on this issue. Even if the U.S. withdrew all military bases from the Middle East and stopped the drone strikes, ISIS would still continue to rape and maim people.

    I'm a big fan of both Chomsky and Harris, and I am admittedly perplexed by their seeming dislike of one another (although I did read their e-mail exchange posted on Harris' website). I find they are both delivering their own valuable and important message. From my perspective, I don't think either of them is wrong, and I don't find their messages mutually incompatible. In short, I agree with both of them.

    • @Fournier46
      @Fournier46 8 років тому +1

      Nice Kyle, that's cool to be able to see the simultaneous wisdom of seemingly conflicting perspectives.
      Also I agree with this other guy that Chomsky probably has the more broad and rooted analysis on topics like this. Even if they have both done great research, some scholars have definitley witnessed the depths of the beast xD

    • @supershmobo
      @supershmobo 7 років тому +6

      Sam Harris isn't stupid; he is just unqualified to talk about every subject that he talks about. He isn't a philosopher, but he starts talking about free will and dismissed academic free will philosophy as "boring." He isn't a political philosopher, but he projects his own New Atheist agenda into political discussion.

  • @joop5415
    @joop5415 7 років тому +1

    Although I do like Sam Harris and DO realize that Chomsky isn't trying to make a blanket claim that none of these attacks are motivated by religion, I do think it's odd that they're talking about the countries that are targeted in a way that makes them seem as though they bring it upon themselves.

    • @Certified-k4j
      @Certified-k4j 4 роки тому +3

      They do bring it themselves. Dont get me wrong what these terrorist did was wrong and dreadful by you should ask yourself why would they do that? Then you can solve the problem and they are saying bombing and killing people in those countries will only increase terrorist attacks. So the best way to leave them alone and they will surely leave western countries alone. Using drones like a video games and destroying villages and cities wont help. Those are human beings just like us. They have love ones , they have feeling, they have ambition in life etc just like us. Imagine china or russia using drones and attacking neirghbourhoods in the u.s or uk. How would the people react. Ask yourself that
