Rare that a video and song combination speaks to my very soul. This is adult me asking why my single mum would abandon my sister and I while she went clubbing in the 1980s and her responding with query of where my family is, one I never had for personal and business reasons. Both of our sacrifices and blaming and faults writ large here. CMAT and John Grant, you’ve taken my breath away…
There’s a wonderful nostalgic feeling running through this song. Reminds me musically of the bands of the 70s, particularly Fleetwood Mac. Brings me back in time to my childhood. Music is the best
Omg just copped it was John grant who was singing with CMAT! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I was just busy obsessing over CMAT. I love this song and didn’t notice… I’m actually crying with delight.
Beautiful. JG is one of my musical heroes. ❤ And that look he does at "bad ones... bad ones only make you disappear"...there is a man who knows exactly what that means. Love him. ❤️ I
Just discovered CMAT via John Grant. She is clearly an incredible and original. Excited to explore more of her work. She reminds of the artist Self Esteem in certain ways.
This is utterly magnificent. It's like I Know Him So Well on steroids and they've given Barbara Dixon a beard. Totally love the drama and the vocals are sublime. Wow!
Holy moly...i just heard this on radio 2. Was instantly hooked, mesmerized, gob smacked. Never quite heard anything like it...nostalgic but so different. Totally love it - came straight here to check for more. Praying she's on Spotify. Can't wait to hear more! ❤
I don't have children, but I always feel empty after a night of partying. Not sure if that's the theme of the song, but it hits hard. "Shaking my hips, and cutting lines, feels a little passé, now. Shoud have cherished my wine. Everything good falls apart and leaves me here".
Whoever directed the video, did the costuming etc did an incredible job. It perfectly matches the aesthetic, as in the 70's, that the music conjures up.
@@divinaluz7 I stand corrected. I've since learned that the video is based on an Elaine Page video which came out in 84. I would maintain that the aesthetic of each decade does kind of spill over in the first three or four years of the next.
I can't really give this song any higher praise than "if you told me John Grant wrote it, I'd have believed you in an instant" - it's that achingly good.

What a brilliant song!!! Just discovered CMAT through Spotify and was hooked immediately. Great voice and many more beautiful songs 💖 Greetings from Greece
Saw CMAT for the first time supporting Florence and the Machine at Belfast in the summer, and they were bloody PHENOMENAL. Such incredible stage presence, I’ve never seen anything like it!! A new fan for sure ❤
Did me leaving cert in '88. My best friend trying to do hers while concealing her pregnancy under an oversized leather jacket. The 80's were such a strange time in Ireland. Just a mish mash of Anne Lovett, The Kerry babies, The troubles, leg warmers and pixie boots, Army surplus shops, neon earrings and bracelets, hair gel, and Smash Hits mag once a fortnight to escape 😊
If you both wanted to do a whole album together don’t let anyone stop you.
Yes!!
Yes please!
Definitely! Its one of those duets where their voices perfectly compliment each other.
they would be fab together the harmony is so fab....Goodluck Guys..Great song...
We're waiting...
I'm so grateful to be living in the same timeline as CMAT.
and morrrisey, as well as a few others...we are lucky
The second time you hear this song you think it's a years-old classic. Then you realise it's not even a year old.
This is my favourite song from this year by far. Listened to it countless times.
Me too.
Good God, this is an instant classic. Should have millions of views. What a gem.

One of the best songs I've heard in years! Such a tune!
CMAT played a banger of a gig in Dublin last night. John Grant made a guest appearance. Superb.
The sublime john grant with the brilliant Cmat 👏
Late to the party clearly but this is truly sensational.
Your voices complement each other wonderfully, another CMAT hit I fear!
Just found out about four seconds ago CMAT is Irish.
What an honour. Wow.
I have been absolutely addicted to this song since first hearing it two weeks ago. I’m buying all of their albums right now. Holy crap is this good.
Love this song. Am I supposed to say that, I am 67 years old and have listened to CMAT's other songs. Love your music.
I'm 66 and a massive Frank Zappa fan ... love this too!
63 and I think CMAT is phenomenal
61 - she's incredible! The album sounds like a Greatest Hits collection from a stellar career!
You both compliment each others voices. One of the best songs in quite some time. Very nostalgic feel also.
Starts like an air raid siren, ends like an ABBA outtake, what a pret-a-banger. AND the video is giving I Know Him So Well, too.
This is an immaculate song and an immaculate video. In any other era this would be a world wide smash.
Recently discovered CMAT, I'm obsessed with their style. I can feel the nostalgic, the simplicity full of emotions.
Their?
Ashamed only just heard this. Best song heard in years. What talent.
Getting good Chess vibes. Bjorn, Benny, Elaine and Barbara.

Smells like talent here.

enjoying the Toast of London energy of this
There is magic in the way their voices harmonise.
CMAT is truly one of the best things about life today. And impossibly she keeps delivering classics. What an absolute star ❤❤

John Grant is a musical God (he’s how I found this song) and I must now download everything by CMAT.

The duet we didn't know we needed! [insert goosebumps here]
Best Irish song in years, well done
Middle 8 break before the outro - lyric and vocals hit wild 🤌🏻💥
These lyrics are poetry, she’s done it again folks

Everything about this is fucking glorious
Great tune, great fucking album. That's 2 great albums in a row. Great music throughout both...❤

It's the 80s 🤗

@@MatchesMalone1183 Yes, you're right about that. Like a transitional period 😊
80$

You should go to Eurovision!
This is a stone cold bop!
I can't really give this song any higher praise than "if you told me John Grant wrote it, I'd have believed you in an instant" - it's that achingly good.
This is like my quintessential song of 2023. Everything about it, the lyrics, the harmonies, the video is truly excellent.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Parties
I used to love to party in the old days
Heartbeat
I used to have one of them too
Now I find
I've picked up problems
From loves of mine
Who swear they ain't got 'em
Everything fun falls apart and leaves me here

[Verse 2]
Mourning
No one at this party knows I'm mourning
Nineteen
Or anyone that wasn't self aware
I walk to fill my glass with ice and I
Watch myself from an aerial height
Everything fun falls apart and leaves me here
[Chorus]
Licking my lips and doing crimes
It was over in a minute by quartеr to nine
Where еverything lost was gained in time
But where are your kids tonight?
Shaking my hips and cutting lines
Feels a little passé now
Shoulda cherished my wine and
All of those friends who I thought were fine
Oh, where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
[Verse 3]
Lonely
I didn't know good choices make you lonely
And bad ones
Bad ones only make you disappear
I think it's time I choose the latter
'Cause nothing lasts
So nothing matters
Everything good falls apart and leaves me here
[Chorus]
Licking my lips and doing crimes
It was over in a minute
By quarter to nine
Where everything lost was gained in time
But where are your kids tonight?
Shaking my hips and cutting lines
Feels a little passé now
Shoulda cherished my wine and
All of those friends who I thought were fine
Oh, where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
[Bridge]
I can feel it slip away
That last sweet shred of stupidness
My mommy's old mistakes
Are losing their elusiveness
It's 1988
I can see her
I can hear her singing
[Chorus]
Licking my lips and doing crimes
It was over in a minute
By quarter to nine
Where everything lost was gained in time
But where are your kids tonight?
Shaking my hips and cutting lines
Feels a little passé now
Shoulda cherished my wine and
All of the friends who I thought were fine
Oh, where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
Oh, where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
Oh, where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?
Oh, where are your kids tonight?
Where are your kids tonight?

I discovered this video on a tv show called Rage a few weeks ago, and I love it so much!
Is it just me or is CMAT channelling Sue Ellen Ewing in this video.......brilliant stuff as per usual from this Superstar.....
She’s channeling Elaine Paige (and Barbara Dickson) from ‘I know him so well’
