THE WH40K marines ser the all mighty EMPEROR! and purge all the heretics from galaxy. Clearly all the warships are full of chaos servants and the heresy.
Event Horizon is sometimes jokingly referred to as a 40K prequel. In 40k FTL travel is done via going through "The Warp" a psionically charged realm that is basically just supposed to hold souls but all the fuckery in 40Ks history (long before humanity) caused it to become twisted and malevolent. The ships use something called a "Gellar Field" to keep (the worst of) the bad stuff out. The Event Horison didn't have such a field and what happened there is a mild (for the ship) to moderate (for the crew) level of shit that happens when you go through the warp without the field.
Bricky has some introduction videos for warhamer 40k if it ever interests you. They give you a taste of what you can expect and are also full of memes.
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy Again, I do have to warn you: It's a rabbit hole. Hundreds of books. Tons of lore. Lots of content. And luckily for you, many videos explaining all of it! Anyway, as it has already been recommended, here's another one: Bricky's lore vid is a good way to get a broad grasp on the general lore. If you want in-depth, try Luetin.

In this the Astartes are fighting a rebellious human faction, usually called a 'heresy' given the hyper religious aspect of the culture. The gun they're using is called a Bolter. It fires what are essentially rocket propelled explosive rounds the size of a Red Bull. This is why single hits can tear the enemies in half. You can see the business portion of the bolter rounds as they get stopped by the shields of the two giant spine guys (called psykers). I'm pretty sure the hidden sniper guy was also using a type of Bolter, but it takes multiple on target shots to breach space marine armor. The space marine was able to not really sneak up on the spine guys, but they were focused on attacking the one they already had trapped and were rather distracted. Space marines are genetically and surgically enhanced humans. Two hearts, three lungs, 8+ feet tall weighing in at nearly half a ton each. Their strength and durability are legendary. However, it wasn't his eye that popped. Just the covering over the cameras in that eye of the helmet. Yeah, the Imperium of Man is deeply religious. The red robe guy was an Inquisitor, many of whom are space marine equivalent of psykers, and his job was to keep tabs on the eldritch beach balls. Him warning the officer about the threat to the troops on the other ship ended up causing his own possession, and thus his immediate death by execution. Also they all were talking (we can hear the Inquisitor's muffled voice) it's just not audible through the helmets (and because this was a one man project and he kept vocals to a minimum). The two eldritch beach balls were talking about how they and others like them had failed in their mission. The one on the enemy ship was then told to basically suicide and take the space marines with it. Once it had, however it got hit with essentially an interdimensional riptide and died. The backlash of it dying sent the space marines to the planet they're on at the end. The one inconsistency I've ever been able to spot in this is Red Eye's severed arm. In two shots (when it's severed and on the planet) it's an above the elbow amputation. When it's shown while in The Warp (the in universe name of... well, yeah essentially the 'hell' from Event Horizon) it's shown severed below the elbow. Event Horizon's aesthetic is so in tune with Warhammer 40k that many consider it to be an unintended unofficial prequel to that universe. Red Eye vomited blood and bile, which is why it was bubbly. His eye studs mark his time in service. A space marine gets one for ever full century of service, so Red Eye had been active duty for over three hundred years. They can take their armor off. They're not sealed in. The place Red Eye was in at the end was a necropolis, so the giants didn't all die at once. It's hypothesized that the bipedal upright form might be evolutionary advantageous in sapient life given its balance of function and energy efficiency. I haven't read too deeply into it, however.
Holy Moly! Thank you for all the detail and info! The level of detail that went over my head is amazing, the creator put a lot of work into this and I can appreciate it more with this extra info. And i now find it funny that the balls were speaking to each other and one told the other to just kill itself to take out the marines, but also bad ass!
Cool detail: when the Space Marine started running, you can see that he slowly gets ahead of the camera; to borrow a qoute, "nothing that massive should move that quickly!"
Those things on their backs aren't jetpacks but the powerpacks for their armor. Good call on Event Horizon considering that the warp, the shadowy realm they get dragged into, is quite literally hell.
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy While not jet packs, the thrusters on them are made for moving in 0G in space. Much larger jump packs are used for fighting in atmospheric combat -the kind used by Raptors, Warp Talons, Inceptors, and other flying infantry, ALSO Event Horizon is one of my favorite films -alongside The Sphere, Cube, and a few others
The weapon used by the astartes is called the bolter, which fires a 75 cal. rocket propelled bullet with a Hardened diamantine tip designed to explode after penetration some interesting and absolutely insane details i though i should point out 7:20 you can see the rounds bouncing off the force field attack thingy 14:40 if you focus, you can see the 5 astartes around the orb for that split second also, the dialouge (who is there, we have failed brother we have all failed The astartes deny our touch You mush return break your seal Impossible, we'll never survive You must, take the alpha) The inquisitor(red robed hodded guy): recall them immediately!) 16:13 you can see the captains cape flying backwards due to the sheer impact force of the bolter going off 18:14 That, is his blood coagulating pretty much instantly on the ground, which is accurate since its a part of their genetic enhancements which is a kind of super platelets which prevents excessive blood loss. 18:17 the studs on the top left side of his face is supposed to denote a space marines service life, however its difficult to guess how long since it varies from chapter to chapter, however its likely that these guys have been serving for centuries now.
LMAO, I had to look up what jimmy space was and OMG why did they make it some a guy with the last name "Land" made Land Speeders, that name makes sense without the inventor having Land as a name hahaha
3:46 the rounds for the bolter are estimated to be what would be considered a .75 caliber round that is rocket propelled and detonates after burrowing into the target. Think of it like the love child of a assault rifle and a grenade launcher except the grenades are also rockets
I don't know much about guns, but that description of the bolter makes we wanna shoot something with it, I'd probably die firing it it I could even pull the trigger, but that sounds so badass!
@@MrBCWalker01 They're technically rocket-assisted projectiles. There's a conventional charge that gives them significant recoil and allows them to be deadly at point-blank, unlike a gyrojet, but the shell is basically a mini-RPG.
13:23 Funny that you should mention the Event Horizon movie. There are fan theories and such that the movie is part of the Warhammer universe when humanity first traveled to the Warp. This is from the creators reddit page The ball dialogue "...no escape. I have failed brother." 'We have all failed. The Astartes deny our touch. You must return, break your seal." "Impossible, (I) will never survive." "You must! Take them!" Edit: The backpack is a power generator for the power armor. Starship Troopers the book might have been the first to do power armor so they are the first space marines. Space Marines aren't really considered to be humans, but they go through extensive genetic and psychological altering that they are nothing alike. They guy in the red robes is an inquisitor, pretty much a detective with the power to decide the fate of worlds. The inquisitor had psychic powers which he used to eavesdrop on the 2 balls and did his hail Mary/last hurrah to free the space marines from the tentacle monster.
OMG I love Event Horizon, so it possibly being connected to 40k makes me want to know more about it even more! And thanks for the extra info on the details I was confused on, clears up what the sphere was doing and what hit the squid eldritch monster
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy This is from the Wiki of Even Horizon: Screenwriter Philip Eisner acknowledged that Warhammer 40,000 influenced the story.[10] In the setting of Warhammer 40,000, spaceships travel the galaxy by passing through "the Warp"-a parallel dimension where faster-than-light travel is possible, conceptually similar to "hyperspace" in Star Wars, but which is also inhabited by evil spirits that can infiltrate the ship and possess the crew if said ship is not properly shielded. Fans consider Event Horizon to be an unofficial prequel to Warhammer 40,000, when humankind discovers the Warp and learns of its dangers the hard way.

I love the fact that despite how long its been since its release, basically any time someone new watches Astartes the comments are always full of recommendations and explanations afterward 😂I'm guilty of it myself too. The starcraft aliens you're remembering, the protoss, the dreadlocks are nerve cords that used to connect them to the "khala", kinda like a psychic empathy link that let them communicate, share memories etc. It wasn't ever the source of their power since every protoss is innately a psychic, but it did help in controlling some of their more destructive powers like psionic storm due to the discipline it helped them achieve.
Ill explain a bit for you: The Angry Balls are relics of a long dead alien civilization. There are three of them in this video. Two on the Astartes ship, you can see a second one in the shadows behind the first one. And one on the rebels ship. The Inquisition (the dude in the red cape) together with this Astartes chapter is hunting these Alien relics because they are corrupting humans and are forcing them to build bodies for them. In their current form they have only limited influence on the material realm. When the angry ball on the rebel ship is trying to keep the Astartes away it is not only pushing against them, it is also attempting to corrupt them (you can hear the whispering with each attack) but the Astartes are nearly immune to such attacks. You can then see the Inquisitor listening in when the two Angry Balls start communicating with each other and the conversation goes as follows: Angry Ball 1 (with the Inquisitor): "Who is there?" Angry Ball 2: "I have failed, brother." Angry Ball 1: "We have all failed. The Astartes defy our touch." Angry Ball 2: "We must return." Angry Ball 1: "Break your shield (or seal?)." Angry Ball 2: "Impossible. We'll never survive." Angry Ball 1: "You must take them (the Astartes)!" The Inquisitor then says: "Recall them immediately!" to the captain so they can save the Astartes. Unfortunately the Angry Ball uses this momentary loss of focus to attack the Inquisitor and take over his body. Of course the Astartes officers know what to do and completely destroy the Inquisitors body to keep the Angry Ball from going on a rampage in its newly acquired body. You can see that the Astartes get the order to retreat but the other Angry Ball instantly grabs them and pulls them into the warp. In the warp it gets killed by something else and the Astartes all suddenly appear on what i guess is the long dead aliens homeworld. You can see flashes on the other pillars showing that the rest of the squad has suddenly popped back into existence too.
I believe the last one says "we must take the alpha" I think they meant the psyker, because not only is he the one sealing the ball with immense control over his psychic power, he is most likely the highest ranking officer in that ship
@@lavaavalon Highest ranking officer on that ship are astartes captain. And yeah, if this acolyte(supposedly) were alpha-level psyker, alien ball probably wouldn't be able to done him like that. Its always super enjoyable watching someone perceptive watch this without prior 40k knowledge. Many of your observations were either on point or pretty close, also the remarks about Event Horizon were golden, as many Warhammer fans see it as an unoficiall prequel, with all that other hellish dimension used for travel and stuff. Also the remark about a pentagram was another unexpected direct hit of sorts, because 5 is i think a sacred number for the Imperium (cant quote, i just know i´ve heard it a few times)... and yeah, the Imperium is deeply religious and superstitious, most loyal space marine chapters dislike the dietification of the Emperor, but everybody else sees him as a god, meanwhile, the Mechanicus worship their machine god and pray/chant to every machine, little or small, to either while fixing it or keep it going. Very good video, cheers.
Thank you! I am surprised how close I got on some things. I love movies and film and appreciate the hard work people put into little details, so maybe that helps me notice some things like the Pentagram. Could also be the ADHD haha And other people have mentioned that about Event Horizon, so I'm even more interested in the lore as I feel like that movie doesn't get enough attention. I love symbolism like the ones in that movie and in this video
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy The lore is pretty huge, some books/series are great while others feel like a chore to finish. A few tidbits to answer some of your questions: Astartes start out as regular humans who through certain methods (these can difer based on the space marine chapter) get selected often as early as 10-12 years old. After that they get separated rom their relatives and start intensive physical and mental training for years. During those trainings they also go through extra organ implants (like a second heart or third lung just to name a few) and genetic modification which elevates them to a superhuman level. This training / medical regimen is so brutal in fact that many of the trainees outright die from it. For their equipment yes their armor is removable, however they only really remove it i they will be out of combat for extended periods of times as suiting up a spacemarine is like a religious ceremony (I think there is an ofical GW video showing it). The weapons they use are called boltguns and they fire 75 caliber (basically a redbull can sized) rocket propelled ammunition that explodes after impact (hence the guy shot in two). The other weapon used against the multi laser gun was a plasma pistol and it is pretty much as the name suggests fires superheated plasma, but have the downside of easily overheating (and potentially exploding if misused or not maintained properly). The backpacks on their backs are part of the enviromental system of their suit, but there are space marine armor compatible jetpacks (or jumppacks as they are called in universe) that can attach to their armor allowing them short term flight.
15:40 - Helmet comms, they're sealed against the environment so hard to get the soundwaves out. When the Psyker YELLS "RECALL THEM IMMEDIATELY!" that's as loud as he can voluntarily shout... Voluntarily...
If you want short lore summaries I highly recommend The Templin Institute as they do high quality summaries from the perspective of somebody investigating the universe in question. Also, regarding Master Chief, he is not locked into his armor as it can be removed but needs special equipment that can only be found on large ships, stations and bases. If he was, then other Spartan 2s wouldn't be able to have children.
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy I found that out about Spartan 2s from another lore channel, think it was Installation 00. And your welcome for the suggestion.
Event Horizon is actually joked about being a prequel to 40K about the first human interstellar ship, since the warp (where demon shit comes from and where imperial spaceships take a shortcut trough) was poorly understood then.
I love that you said you are getting "Event Horizon" vibes as there's a sizeable base of the 40k community that consider Event Horizon to be the 'unofficial prequel' to 40k.
If I may suggest , I recommend Bricky videos on all factions , The only faction that will not be there will be that of the '' dwarfs '' , because it was readded after a long time
Gonna parrot what some of the others here have said and watch Bricky's "Every Single Warhammer 40K Faction Explained" videos to give you a great primer for the 40K universe. He also has a similar great video going over every Space Marine legion.
I'm working off old lore, so they might've changed the details, but what the space marines are firing are .75 caliber explosive rounds. .75 caliber is around the size of 12 gauge shotgun shells. These space marines are slighty resistant to "psychic" bs, and I say "slightly", because the gold mask duo that got put down are low level. Probly level 5/ delta tier psykers. Most space marines are heavier then their armor. The directer for Event Horizon is a 40k fan and definitely "drew inspiration" from the franchise, the movie basically depicting what the first warp capable ships had to deal with before humanity developed the Gellar field generator that shields against the taint of the Warp/hell. Both master chief and and space marines can take off their power armor, it's usually for ceremonial purposes tho for space marines, as they're usually constantly in combat. Depending on chapter, of course
Hello there, friend dabbling into 40k. To answer your question about which came first, 40k space marines or Halo, its 40k. The first editions came of 40k were in the 80s. Space marines are on average 8-9 feet tall, and are solidly built. They're genetically engineered superhumans that are conditioned to be more like weapons of war then people. Hyper disciplined and indoctrinated to their cause. The people theyre fighting are traitors to the Imperium (the general human faction in the game). The ones with the exposed spines and metallic skin... I don't know what to tell you there. (There are forces of Chaos, being demons and spooky stuff. Aliens that range from bug dinosaurs called Tyranids, soccar hooligan Orks with cockney accents, to space elves, Egyptian themed skeleton robots, and classic gray skinned aliens with mecha. Its a wild setting.
Late to the party here, but the consensus is that the blast of black energy that hit the daemon holding the astartes was the inquisition psyker's final act before being possessed and killed. The energy around him when he was listening to the spheres communicate is the same smokey black as the blast that hit the daemon.
OMG of all the people I've seen react to this, you have an eye for detail, noticing the little guy at the start beside the astartes, you understood what was happening almost the entire way through. one of my favorite reactions of this. btw there's a trailer for the sequel (that may never come the way it was first conceptualized since Games Workshop hired the guy who made this) but it's worth watching, it's a short 1 minute trailer and you can react to it alongside the video "astartes explained for new people" so that you can get a good understanding of the animation

@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy yeah, I'm kind of sad that most people dont react to it because its not usually recommended alongside astartes. But yeah, as short as it is, its just worth watching. He was invited to GW's HQ and he's basically been confirmed to executively produce and star as lead for a Warhammer series (or possibly an entire cinematic universe) so its a Great time to be a 40k fan.
Who made the first Space Marine? Robert Heinlein in Starship Troopers, the book. The whole reason for the infantry is the powered armor they use to throw bombs, etc.
Since you brought up Starcraft, Starcraft was originally supposed to be a Warhammer 40k game but Games Workshop pulled the license. So Blizzard just slightly altered the races. The Space Marines in Starcraft are kinda a blending of both human groups you're seeing here, 40k Space Marines and these regular humans who are occasionally prisoners like Starcrafts Space Marines. Zerg are basically a toned down Tyranids. Protoss as basically the Eldar. But yeah, 40k first appeared in the 80s, so it predates Halo and Starcraft. I think the first Space Marines though were from the book Starship Troopers... but they more used mechs than augmented super soldier humans. Edit: Also as to Event Horizon... yeah, 40k does that literally too. You see just like in Event Horizon, their starships push holes into an alternate reality called the warp that is basically like hell. If their force field goes down, literal demons can spawn on their ships or crew can get possessed by demons (actually why they killed their own guy, as even his corpse could be possessed unless they damaged it even more which is why they fired a few shots after punshing in his head). A 'safe' flight through the warp or immaterium basically just gives everyone super creepy visions... and unsafe flight is the movie Event Horizon on steroids. Edit 2: the bedazzling is actually an indicator of how long they've been in service. There's some variations of what they mean, but typically gold is 100 years, and silver is 20 years. So this Space Marine is at minimum has seen 140 years of combat. The average space Marine seeing about 400 before they die in combat, and the oldest living is Dante at 1,557 years... and he's still fighting in the lore and leading a chapter called the Blood Angels.

Anyways Starship Troopers was originally released in two parts in the magazine, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, back in October and November 1959. And was called Starship Soldier orginally.
Higher ranked space marines in the same chapters generally have parts of their armor in their off color to dictate rank. Also they are communicating but you wouldn't hear it from a 3rd person perspective because of the helmets. You can actually hear the guy speaking in but it's muffled in his helmet. And the silver dots his head are service studs. He has 3 so he's been in service for 300 years.
Boltguns use a hybrid of conventional low-explosive and rocket propulsion. Blasting out of the gun at high speed, and staying at high speed despite air friction. IRL rocket guns like the Volcanic and the Gyrojet had the advantage of practically zero recoil, but suffer the issue being extremely weak at close range because the bullets don't reach dangerous velocity until a few seconds of flight time, and hard to use accurately because the bullets spend a relatively long time in the barrel. 14:20 LMAO that perspective never occurred to me
"how thick is that armour?" ... Yes The thing that hit it was a daemon having a nice snack in the warp, thats why you dont go in unshielded or with some precautions

About the white armour- in the Hellsreach book it is mentioned that the astartes fighting on the planet's surface had been reduced to basic gunmetal grey. THe constant warfarte with the ork Waaaargh had chipped away every part of their paint.
The originator of the "Space Marine" or power armored super-soldier in fiction was Robert Heinlein's novel Starship Troopers, though they were called the "Mobile Infantry".
The earliest known use of the term "space marine" was by Bob Olsen in his short story "Captain Brink of the Space Marines" (Amazing Stories, Volume 7, Number 8, November 1932) - Google
It's funny you should mention Event Horizon, because 40K was one of the influences for that film. It's seen by 40K fans as a unofficial prequel to the setting, where humanity finds out what happens when they are exposed to the Warp without protection. In 40K human ships travel faster than light by going through the Warp, and the Gellar Fields are what stop Event Horizon from happening when they do, though occassionally the shields do fail. The Warp itself, the dimension the ball pulled them into, is pretty much Hell, and where those Eldritch gods live. A realm where all your worst instincts and emotions become literal devils. In 40K the phrase "everyone has their demons" is not just a metaphor. As a matter of fact, you can see one of said Warp entities in the bottom right corner (behind your avatar haha) at 17:45, coming to investigate the psykic disturbances.

both an Astartes and his suit of Powered Armor are masterpieces of technology their suits function almost like second skin to an Astartes thanks to the final implant the Black Carapace which is woven just beneath the skin the Marine's eye isn't damaged it's the helmet's eyepiece was broken showing a piece of technology called an Auspex.
An intro into the dark millennium by Garrot might be a good appetiser. Fivish minute lore by The Old Man is funny. He touches on a lot of characters. But brickey is a good start
They are not stuck in their armor. It can be removed although it is a lengthy process. Side note the same holds true for master chief. I believe it was the ending cutscene of Halo 4 that shows that. The metal dots on his head denote service time. Silver is 50 years and gold is 100. They look similar to normal humans though the proportions are off. There isn't blood loss from his missing arm because of a genetic implant resulting in near instant scar formation, acting as a superior clotting factor. They are 7-8 feet tall. They have pretty much every potential problem or disadvantage solved for them. Breathe underwater and toxic gas no problem. Can't be poisoned, can't get dissy, have a bulletproof ribcage plate, acidic spit, extract genetic memory by eating their enemies, and so much more. The different colored armors are just space marines from a different group. The forces are split up into smaller groups of a thousand. They do different stuff for the empire. Space marines call each ither brothers, so those other groups are morw like cousins if anything. They eill work together sometimes. Although there are only so many marines so deployment has to be considered carefully. Where they are needed and ideally won't be slaughtered. They, or at least the empire they stand for is a hyper religious one. Heretics are killed. Aliens are killed. Mutants are killed. By the will of the God Emperor of mankind, who you can see many of for some reason at the end of the video after the guy pukes his guts out. Those were insense burners, those papers in the hallway were purity seals, in the beginning they were blessing their weapons. Fundamental religious extremeists are the common citizens. So imagine what the bulwarks are. The people the common man are ment to be inspired by. The people who are leages above the common man in every single way possible. Imagine what level of zeal they would have. Overall they are similar to the Spartans in Halo, but are more extreme. As is everything related to Warhammer. But children being taken to space and receiving genetic modification, intense training, indoctrination, advanced weapons and armor, and being the supersoldiers of space defending humanity. You can see the connection. Maybe one barrowed from the other, maybe not. But regardless, supersoldiers in space can hardly be considered an idea that you can trademark.
There are many types of Astarties or Space Marines in Warhammer 40,000. What you saw were the men under Primarch Guilliman’s command. All loyal Space Marines stop for nothing until their objective is completed or are ordered to retreat.
"How big are the bullets" About .50 caliber I believe on the normal Bolter. Although they look wider but also somewhat shorter than ours here on earth It's basically a small grenade is how it was described to me the first time I saw this. You get a short look at the size of the shells when the psyker stops them with his force field
Not sure if anyones answered the questions or not but hee we go :) The rounds the space marines fire from their bolters are essentially rocket propelled grenades instead of bullets. The standsrd space marine armor, as shown in this video, isnt capable of flight or lift. The 'backpack' is the power pack for the suit with the round parts on the shoulders being the exhaust ports. If interested in what suits of armor that are capable of flight or lift look up 'assault space marine armor' or 'space marine jump pack' Hope this was helpful and wecome to 40k, its a lovely place :)
Answers to your questions: 1: Warhammer (and Warhammer 40k) came out in the 1980s, so to your question concerning Halo... 2: They _are_ fighting humans, but the humans they're fighting have been corrupted by a Chaos artifact. 3: The 'bullets' the Space Marines fire are Bolter Rounds. Self propelled, mass reactive rounds. Basically supersonic grenades that only explode once they detect that they're inside someone. _(That way they will not blow holes in the sides of space craft if they miss... which they don't ever really do.)_ 4: YES. They are walking tanks. Their armor is made of Ceramite, a ceramic-metal composite material. It is about 12cm thick in most places. The Space Marines are about 274cm tall (9ft), but they top 335cm (11ft) in armor. It _is_ powered armor that adds to their already super human strength and speed. They're post humans with enhanced... everything. Mental abilities, physical abilities, and they even have many organs the rest of mankind does not. 5: Yes - there are basically space wizards. They're called Psykers. The Emperor of the Imperium of Man is the most powerful Psyker to have ever existed, and he is about 60,000 years old. _(He is also currently in stasis, trapped between life and death, keeping mankind able to travel the Warp... and keeping a flood of daemons from swarming Earth.)_ 6: The figurines CAN be expensive, yeah, but a lot of people have started buying from other sources that just 3d print them. A ton of fans, like myself, mostly enjoy the novels, videos, and games more than the table top game itself. There are over 300 full length novels based in the 40k universe. 7: The reason they took that Inquisitor/Psyker's head off, and filled him full of bolt rounds instantly - He was about to become a warp portal. Daemons were about to rip their way through him, into reality, and absolutely fuck everyone on that ship. 8: Space Marines have had fear genetically removed from them. Hence why they all stay so calm. 9: Yeah they can take off their armor. They usually wear rather priestly/monk style robes when on their ships, or in their fortess monestaries.
Its funny that you mention starcraft, because it was originally going to be a 40K game. the license was pulled at the last minute so Blizzard reworked it into a new IP. the Terrans = imperium of man (space marines), the Protoss = the eldari (psychic space elves), and the Zerg = the tyranids (Just Zerg but way more terrifying)
Yeah these a very good reason why spaces marines have earned the tiles Angels of Death. The galaxy used to have more xeno species until the God Emperor and his Spaces Marines legions went on the Great Crusade.
10:27 so, yes, some of the Marines can…eh not so much fly as jump really high. Those are Assault Marines. What you are looking at on their backs though is the power plant for the armor. Those suits operate under their own power, hence “powered armor.” Or just Power Armor.
brief explanation for some aspects, this is a raid against rebel humans, the bolter(the rifle the marines are using) is essentially boiled down to a cross between a RPG and a assault rifle. the bullets range close to a small red bull can. the mask guys are psykers (space magic) and the masks are to help control their abilities. there are some break down vids out there by lore channels that go further in depth but those are the basics of the basics. Ohh yeah marine armour is rediculous, they make the master chief look like a new recruit.
Bro I’ve watched this 100 of times and only now did I notice that maybe the shot he fired before he got sucked in was able to hit that thing and caused him to be transported there
What they are shooting are .75 cal (20mm) bolts, self-propelled APHEI (Armor Piercing High Explosive) shells that will penetrate the target and then explode inside for maximum damage.
Just stumbled here but if you see this bricky also has a podcast called adeptus ridiculous and it goes into a single faction, person, or topic in warhammer 40k for that episode they also joke around in it
Event Horizon is actually a good call for this, in Warhammer 40K community it is considered to be an unofficial censored record of humanity´s first attempt at Warp travel.
Buddy, I just found your channel, and I think I've got the video to explain 40k to you. He has two channels: Old Man Reacts, and his lore channel, Old Man - Lore, Stories and Theories. We call him "the commisar" or Boss. Watch his video: History of Humanity for a more abridged version from the perspective of a commisar role play. Majorkill is for those who need ADHD friendly vids Baldermorte is for the scholars and roleplayers Bricky will give you a quick synopsis on all the factions of 40k. You got questions? These four are the go to guys. They also work with each other and are pretty cool dudes. But seriously, History of Humanity by Old Man Lore gives the human perspective.
We do have a real-life example of a pistol and rifle that shoots self-propelled bullets. Look up the rocket pistol if you get a chance. They don’t blow up, and the gun sold extremely poorly. But the concept was really interesting.
The creator is Syama Pedersen and just before Warhammer streaming service came online Games workshop did a youtube purge and everyone who made WH40K fan based movies etc where given a cease and desist including Pedersen too. it was either carry on doing it and we will sue or come work for us and be absorbed into the machine that is 40K. You won't here his name heading a GW production either as they don't work like that
Okay, your enthusiasm has me wanting to answer some questions about the setting and this video in particular. (More in the replies below) 0:37 Space marines are typically 7 and a half to 8 feet tall. Primaris Marines, which are a new bit of Lore related to the current shift in the games story are 8 to 8 and a half feet tall. These are regular Space marines however. 0:41 The first Space Marines were actually accredited to a 1930's short Novella whose name I can't recall offhand. Though Space marines as they're presented in Sci Fi (Best of the best either genetic/cybernetically augmented/riding around in power armor/all three) Is typically credited to the Starship Troopers novel from the late 50's. Warhammer 40K as a tabletop game started life around the mid to late 80's drawing inspiration from Dune (The Imperium of Man) Robocop (Adeptus Arbites) Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stalone movies, particularly Predator and Rambo (Catachan Jungle Warriors and Sly Marbo) and a few other inspirations of the 80's. Then Starcraft came around in the late 90's (Funny thing, Starcraft was initially supposed to be a warhammer 40k game, that's why the Terran Marines and the Zerg look so similar to 40k Space Marines and the Tyranids), after that, Halo took drew inspiration from both settings for it's franchise, and Mass Effect not long after drew it's own. The Reapers being a notable inspiration from the Eldritch stuff of 40k. So, technically speaking, if you're going by just "games" technically Warhammer 40k did the arch-typical Space marines first. 2:12 That would be a Caestus Assault Ram. Basically a Boarding pod with a big fucking Laser drill on the front to bore a hole in an enemies armor. Some Space marine chapters have teleportariums on their ships that allows them to teleport onto enemy ships but usually only if their Void Shields are down, otherwise you can get telefragged pretty easily, or get yeeted out into space because the coordinates are off, or get shunted into the literal Hell dimension just about everyone uses for FTL. 2:34 They're fighting a rebel faction of humans corrupted by a creator made/fan made alien species (Potentially unaligned to any faction even Chaos). There are other more major alien threats (Orks, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Tau, etc.) as well as demonic threats (Chaos, Chaotic humans, Psykers, chaos aligned aliens like the Rak'gol, etc.) but the thing about the Imperium is that they're so corrupt and huge (A literal million worlds where a rounding error in Imperial records could see an entire star system being forgotten, overlooked, or condemned to death because they misplaced their tithes/tax returns.) that humans actually primarily fight against other, traitor/heretic/etc. humans. If humans could ever truly unify (Much like the Orks, who are hilariously at war with everyone, including themselves pretty much constantly), they'd sweep the galaxy under sheer numbers and the might of their industry. (Which they very nearly did during the Horus Heresy 10K years ago before the events of the current era, which was the civil war that put the Imperium in the state it is today, rather than the golden age it was leading up to.) 2:53 There are four Chaos gods in the setting of Warhammer 40k. Khorn - god of war, blood, skulls, brass, etc. A lazy ass sitting on his skull throne that cares not how or where the blood flows only that it does. Tnzeetch - god of change, trickery, magic, etc. A fucking nerd mollusk that sabotages himself just as much as he sabotages everyone else. Nurgle - God of pestilence, decay, rot and entropy. A very stinky boy, basically if the Bog of Eternal Stench from the Labyrinth became a sentient creature. And finally Slannesh - God/dess? of Excess, pleasure, pain, CBT, Sex, Drugs and Rock and roll (Turned up to 15 until the knob breaks and your fingers bleed) All of them are chaotic evil... ish. They're a product of the Chaotic nature of the warp and are representative of positive emotions as well. Honor, progress, life, love, etc. They're just taken to 11 and cranked up even further. And the only ones who'd have tentacles would be Tzeench (Typical Eldritchy look) Nurgle (More tendrils of rot and pestilence) And Slaanesh (Usually with spiked barbs covered in pain increasing poison and drugs, all of the drugs. 3:17 Those are enemy psykers, the spine on the back of their head and the mask together are what's known as a Psychic hood, which lets Psykers channel their psychic power safer as drawing too greedily from the Warp can have dire consequences, the least of which is death. Psychics in 40k draw their power from the immaterium, the warp, the aforementioned hell dimension where literal demons make their home. And if a Psyker isn't careful anda demon takes notice and the psyker isn't able to ward themselves against possession. Then their soul gets eaten and their body gets turned into a meat toboggan for a demon who will then very quickly turn that body into a portal which will start a demonic invasion and will probably most likely condemn that world to an untimely end. There's a reason why possessed psykers are put down with *EXTREME* prejudice as we'll see in a bit. Also those Psykers are perhaps some of the weakest in the setting, Epsilon to maybe a very low Delta, upper Deltas, on up through gamma, beta and alpha/ alpha + are continent, to planetary, to solar system scale threats. These are barely a threat for a space marine squad, had it been a high delta or Gamma, these space marines would have been wadded up like a bunch of soda cans contemptuously easily. 3:47 A bolter shell is a dual stage rocket propelled, armor piercing, mass reactive explosive round. I.e they penetrate armor then explode violently in a target. It's why those humans pop like a water balloon, the hydro static forces from such an explosive would literally rip a human in half as we see later. As for their size 0.75 cal, about the size of a 12 gauge shotgun shell in totality, or 0.998 cal in Heavy Bolters which are larger, belt fed deals much like a ma Duece 50 cal. 4:02 Those 5 humans are using an in order from left to right; An autogun (Basically a modern rifle) An heavy stubber (Essentially a .50 cal machinegun) A lasgun (Standard imperial guard laser weapon.) A krak grenade launcher (Essentially an RPG) And another Lasrifle. Fun thing, the lasrifles CAN actually penetrate Space Marine armor if they're close enough, there's enough fire, they get lucky, or they hit a weak point like a joint or the eye socket. However the Lasrifle is also one of the weakest weapons of the Imperium compared to literally everything else in the galaxy, to the point it's jokingly called a flashlight by tabletop players. Granted it's hilariously good at killing humans and in massed fire it can kill just about anything, and the reason why everything now is able to mostly ignore it is because the Imperium, by this point, had killed off pretty much everything else that the lasrifle COULD kill easily. All that's left after humanity conquered the stars are that which the las rifle struggles against. Also the Krak grenade could also pierce Space Marine armor, but like most things, the marines just stepped out of the way. 4:15 While this guy is using a Autocannon of some sort, which CAN punch through space Marine armor fairly easily if hit in a thin spot like teh joints or neck. notice they tilt into the line of fire to put their massive pauldrons in the way because the pauldrons are some of the thickest parts of their armor. 4:27 Astartes armor is a few centimeters thick in the thinnest spots, upwards of several inches thick in the thickest spots like the pauldrons, the leg plates, etc. 4:48 That was a suicide bomber armed with a Krak grenade/mine, The Space Marine knew he was there the entire time and reacted accordingly. 5:00 as I said, like a water balloon. 5:15 Yes, it did do something to him. There are pits in his armor for the remainder of the video. That is a twin linked multilas. While multilas aren't really armor piercing, like the lasrifle if you focus fire in the same spot for long enough, even Space Marine armor can fail. That is why he took cover and used a smoke/chaff/flash grenade 5:26 They are made from the geneseed of their Primarchs. The Direct gentic sons of the Emperor, made in a lab. The Emperor is like 14 feet tall, the Primarchs are 10-12 feet tall, the Space marines are 7-8 feet tall. The Space marines take on the genetic quirks and abilities of their primarch. They have, roughly 19 organs and surgeries performed at various stages of their adolescence that turns them into what they are. three lungs, two hearts, ceramic in their bones, fused rib cage, enhaced growth, poison processing, coma inducing organ, blood clotting and triage organs, the interface with their powerarmor implanted in their skin etc. With Primaris marines, a new slightly stronger variant of space marines in the latest lore that have an extra 3 organs that make them stronger and taller, more resilient. The Master Chief is a knock off dollar store version of a 40k space marine. 5:32 That is a Plasma pistol. Anti armor, very prone to exploding when overused, which is why he discards it later when confronting those Psykers after firing it twice in quick succession.
5:37 He could, in fact, see him. Space marine power armor has a multitude of sensors on top of the Space marine's already computer like response times due to their augmentations. The Space marine fired those first two shots that impacted uselessly against the blast shield of the multilas, and in that millisecond understood that he couldn't penetrate it, as well calculated a dozen different variables such as the distance and angle of the target, threw the smoke grenade then, with his armor memorizing that information, pointed to the exact point and took them out. Space marines are bullshit, but they have to be because the rest of the galaxy is also bullshit Where these genetic superhuman transhumans with cybernetic augments and some of the best equipment available to the Imperium, can barely stand against the worst of the xenos and demon threats. 5:41 This is honestly one of the more accurate and faithful recreations of Space marines as defined by both the crunch and most of the early, more reasonable fluff. There's a few moments in the fluff (By authors who fellate themselves just a bit too much) where space marines are even more rediculous. But this right here is about what you'd expect. Indomitable even up against weak psyker threats, but once the eldritch kerfuckery shows up they can and will be bodied unless they respond with tactics and violence reserved for such things. Demons CAN be defeated, Psykers even powerful ones CAN be killed, it just takes effort, skill and a whole lot of luck. (Maybe some arrogance on the enemy's part.) 6:34 HAH, That's what she sa- erm. Why yes, Bolter rounds are rather large, about as big around as your thumb, to about the size of small pill bottle, they're massive chunks of metal and explode inside the target as I said, one good hit and you'll be purged of your sins as you become the holiest bastard on that ship. 6:50 Space wizards that channel hell through their minds to cast their magic and have a bad habit of being turned into meat toboggans as I said. Sanctioned Psykers are less of an issue because they've been exposed the Emperors power (Which blinds them permanently but they can see with warp fuckery) which inoculates them somewhat to warp corruption. 6:55 And there you see the hand grenade discarded into it's natural habitat. Honestly Space marine plasma weaponry is a bit more stable than imperial guard plasma weaponry, but only just. It's still a handgrenade at the best of times. Use it then drop it if you value your limbs and life. 7:00 The weakest of space jedi as I said, the weakest of the weak lmao. 7:06 roughly 1000 pounds yes, half a ton. 350 -450 ish body and 5-700 pounds of armor 7:50 a combination of having to focus on their target, because again, you lose focus you potentially get soul nommed by demons and the speed at which Space Marines move (Roughly 20-30 miles per hour constant pace for a day at a time or pushing to 40-50 mph for short hour or two duration, then an hour rest to do it again. He can move as fast or faster than a car and is incredibly agile. There's a story about humans not being able to track space marines up close due to their sheer maneuverability, that there is a distinct feeling regular humans get, called Transhuman dread, because something so big andbulky should not be able to move like that. Normal humans just kinda lock up in fear of what they're seeing. 8:05 Space marines go through rigorous mental hardening and brainwashing/hypnotic suggestion to make them as mentally hardy and resistant as possible. Outside of Chaos, which can corrupt just about anything given enough time. 8:40 Yeah *Yeah*... Even just a moderate sized army can set you back 4-600 dollars, that includes the cost of the rulebooks and codices, paints, assembly tools, etc. You could go unpainted and just find a free digital set of books if necessary and that'd cut the cost back to around 200 ish. But that's only for basic units, if you start getting into armored units, airships, hero units, etc. That can se you back several hundred dollars *each*, unpainted even. Like, the most expensive standard model that GW has released, was a 2 foot tall Warlord class titan that retails for about 2000 dollars at base, without any fancy paint jobs or any of the more unique weaponry options. 8:57 Very Religious Vibes. Because the Emperor of the Imperium is their God Emperor, deified after the fact, after he was interred upon the golden throne, part life support, part sarcophagus, where the man has been slowly rotting over the last 10k years, being fed the souls of a thousand psykers a day to stay alive and power the Astronomicon, the light house so to speak that allows humans to navigate in the warp. That's right, their god is a rotting skeleton man, who is also their main means of navigation through hell so they can use FTL. Warhammer 40k in a nutshell ladies and gentlemen. What's funny is that's basically the very last thing the Emperor wanted for himself or his imperium. He was a staunch Atheist during the crusade era 10k years ago, wanting to stamp out all worship everywhere to starve out the Chaos gods in the warp (The aformentioned 4some) to deny them power. This ultimately failed due to a variety of reasons, not least of which was the Horus Heresy fucking things up for everyone. But yeah, the Imperium is heavily religious, if you don't worship the Emperor in some way you are purged along with xenos and the demons. Same goes for the Mechanicus which don't really show up in this video, but are the technophile transhumans of mars, who worship machines, the spirits in the machines and the Omnissiah, the god in the machine to use a tongue in cheek phrase. Which, normally would be heresy to the Cult of the Emperor, only the Mechanicus makes all of the Imperiums weapons and equipment, so they can't really do anything to them, because how would they without gear?
9:19 That is an inquisitor, or at least one of his staff. An inquisitor basically has nigh unlimited power to seek out and purge heresy, xenos, or demons within the imperium. They are basically every secret police ever, cranked up to 20 and given absolute powers up unto being able to sign the death warrant for a world. Called Exterminatus. 9:55 They are in fact officers. The cape is a likely a captain of a company, while the beaked helmet is likely one of his lieutenants, it really depends as often the case various space marine chapters sometimes have differing customs for their unit makeup. 10:21 No those aren't jet packs, they're exhaust for the reactors, the backpacks there that power their power armor. There ARE jump packs that they can wear but they are significantly larger, more bulky and cant keep them aloft for very long, but it definitely allows for three dimensional tactics, usually paired with heavy bolters or melee weapons. 10:54 Not a bloody eye, basically all the psykers managed to do is break the lens in his helmet covering the sensors. Again, they were weak epsilon maybe low delta level psykers at best. 11:15 fan theories figure that those were supposed to be the bodies the entities in the orbs were going to inhabit and that they were getting their human servants/slaves to build them for them. 11:30 if you notice around the statue there's dozens of the psychic hoods those two psykers had on theair heads/necks, so it very well could be they were making slaved psykers to build said giant body for them. 11:45 Yes that is an incredible scene, very cinematic. 12:32 less getting pushed back more the Orb was trying to take over their minds (During the conversation between the two orbs later on you hear them commenting on this "The Astartes deny our touch." Again because the Astartes have such mental fortitude and clad themselves in contempt for the chaotic powers, it takes subterfuge or what we call in the business an absolute fuckywucky to get space marines to fall to chaos. usually they're either tricked or they get betrayed and jsut go "fuck it, the imperium doesn't appreciate my grind, guess I'll go chaos." 13:36 good narrative trope instincts lmao 13:52 actually they're using those blades to force a connection to the orb on the ship, allowing the inquisitor (Or their lacky) to eavesdrop in on their conversation. 14:26 Fun fact, those are melta charges all around the orb, so in case it makes a fucky wucky of it's own the guys on board can basically destroy the thing if needed. Which is likely what happened to the other orb off behind that orb in this scene that loks ded and destroyed. 15:36 I noticed someone already linked you the text of the orbs conversation so I wont go over that but each of the space marines and the inquisitor have comes in their helmets and were communicating that way. 16:13 and here we see the appropriate response to possession in 40k. because if you don't kill it fast and kill it now. The possessed will be the least of your worries. because after a certain point, not even bolters or melta weaponry will kill a possessed, and then they bring the party to you with their portal shenanigans and potential demonic incursion. Basically crush the head, pulp the body, then usea flamer to *burn* away everything, including the blood, then come back through with a priest and some holy water to make doubly sure nothing tricky was left. 17:09 Most Marines can ignore a simple dismemberment. They're just that mentally tough, it takes a severe amount of damage to get them to really flinch. 17:41 Eh, marines can get cybernetics, hell the Iron Hands Chapter and their successors typically do that without having to first suffer injury. They're about as technophile as the Mechanicus. 17:50 Fan assumption the black mist that hit the thing was either a denizen of the warp - not necessarily a demon as there's other, more natural predators that call the warp home- or it could have been the soul of the inquisitor making one last hail mary to free the Marines. 18:16 that is in fact the result of one of the organs, specifically the Larramans organ which effectively allows almost instant clotting and formation of scar tissue to seal off and handle even grievous wounds. Specifically being dunked directly into the warp isn't exactly good for your insides, I imagine it shredded him a bit, and he's coughing up the bits of blood from that. 18:20 Those "beddazzled" are service studs, usually denote the length of time someone has been a marine. Silver is usually 50 years and gold a hundred, so this guy's a 200 year veteran marine. Which makes sense as he's the squad leader. 18:22 Yes, they'restill human, just augmented out the ying yang and roughly the height Yao Ming and twice their width and weight. 18:32 yes they can leave their armor, they usually require serfs or Servitors (Cyborg robots, due to AI being banned after humanity got their shit pushed in by their AI servants during the 25th millenium) to don the armor correctly, but can remove pieces or in total if necessary. 19:45 Yes "Hired" as in sent a C&D letter like all the fan animators of 40k stuff on youtube, because Games Workshop are greedy fucks that bascically kneecapped their free publicity to try and shill their Wahammer streaming service. People HATE that games workshop hired him, because we'll likely never see another project from him because Games Workshop are some of THE WORSE handlers of their IP I've ever seen. They're prioritize short term gain even at the expense of their player base, to the point of parody. Welp that's most of what I wanted to say, hope you find it informative, glad to see yo uenjoyed the content, even if you don't delve into the GIRTY amount of content in thecommunity, it's a franchise going nearly 35 years now. With dozens of video games (Of varying quality) , hundreds of books (likewise), a few... lackluster movies and some decent-ish shorts on their Warhammer+ platform on their site (It's kinda garbo but that's what we were expecting anyway so eh) Honestly the Books is the best bit of content aside from fan videos that you can get into, with games being the next as there's some truly good gems amongst the pile.
"Who made the first space marine?" Jimmy Space. "How big are the boolets?" Can of Red Bull. "WTF are these guys made of!?" Contempt. "How did they sneak up on them!?" Run at highway speed. "Can these guys fly?" Yes. "I'm getting Event Horizon vibes." Good, that was a prequel.
13:21 Funny that you mention Event Horizon, because interstellar travel in this universe is basically traveling through Hell (the Warp) with an anti-demon shield (a Gellar field)
If you wish to know more lore and memes I highly recommend bruva alfabusa TTS series. They'll give you a laughing help catch up fairly. Well sort of. At very least you'll get a grimdark and learn a little about the setting.
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy Just a warning. TTS is absolutely in no way lore accurate. Its a great show, but it requires a bit more lore knowledge to get its jokes
The thing to remember about Space Marine Bolters, they're chambered in .998/75 cal. That is a rocket propelled bullet the size of a redbull can that punches through light armor and explodes. It wasn't meant for heavy armor, like fighting other Space Marines, it was made to blow through regular human body armor worn by ordinary people. Which is why in the game, a normal bolter, is seen as the weakest weapon a Space Marines can wield.
If you really want to find out more about WH40K i'd suggest watching Brickys' Every Faction explained videos (there are 2) and then the Every Space LEgion explained video. They're general info, doesn't go too deep to be confusing right off the bat, has a few inaccuracies but still a good resource to peruse.
Rocket repelled ammunition when it fired itself moves twice a speed of sound Basically a rocket attached to a bullet With low detonation switches inside of them meaning once they enter a target they accept destruct It's like Nitro cholesterol On a teaspoon
@9:42 *The World Eaters* , the most bloody Space Marine Legion to ever exist periodt ...originally wore WHITE armor. Them boys went in wit drop pods and killed billions in MELEE combat.
I also stream: www.twitch.tv/ravespecter
Warhammer has some of the best, vast lore of anything every created.
And yeah, Space Marines don't hesitate.
THE WH40K marines ser the all mighty EMPEROR! and purge all the heretics from galaxy. Clearly all the warships are full of chaos servants and the heresy.
WE WILL PROVIDE THE HAMS
Event Horizon is sometimes jokingly referred to as a 40K prequel. In 40k FTL travel is done via going through "The Warp" a psionically charged realm that is basically just supposed to hold souls but all the fuckery in 40Ks history (long before humanity) caused it to become twisted and malevolent. The ships use something called a "Gellar Field" to keep (the worst of) the bad stuff out. The Event Horison didn't have such a field and what happened there is a mild (for the ship) to moderate (for the crew) level of shit that happens when you go through the warp without the field.

@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uyhappy and fun stories yeah....those are... words

I don't know much about guns, but that description of the bolter makes we wanna shoot something with it, I'd probably die firing it it I could even pull the trigger, but that sounds so badass!
you'd have to be cyberneticly augmented or wearing power armour in order to wield a Bolter and it's not just the weight it's the recoil
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy I think 'mini-RPGs' is a pretty good description of Bolt ammo
They're gyrojet rounds, just massively upscaled. If you've ever seen _You Only Live Twice_ then you've seen gyrojet weapons IRL.
@@MrBCWalker01 They're technically rocket-assisted projectiles. There's a conventional charge that gives them significant recoil and allows them to be deadly at point-blank, unlike a gyrojet, but the shell is basically a mini-RPG.

Space Marines aren't really considered to be humans, but they go through extensive genetic and psychological altering that they are nothing alike. They guy in the red robes is an inquisitor, pretty much a detective with the power to decide the fate of worlds. The community is so passionate and welcoming!
Ill explain a bit for you:
The Angry Balls are relics of a long dead alien civilization.
You can then see the Inquisitor listening in when the two Angry Balls start communicating with each other and the conversation goes as follows:
Angry Ball 1 (with the Inquisitor): "Who is there?"
Angry Ball 2: "I have failed, brother."
Angry Ball 1: "We have all failed. The Astartes defy our touch."
Angry Ball 2: "We must return."
Angry Ball 1: "Break your shield (or seal?)."
Angry Ball 2: "Impossible. We'll never survive."
Angry Ball 1: "You must take them (the Astartes)!"
The Inquisitor then says: "Recall them immediately!" to the captain so they can save the Astartes.
Omg thank you for the break down! I would not have understood that with my ignorance of the lore and world, thank you
No matter how many times ive watched this I've never been able to hear the inquisitor say anything, except for weird whirring noises

A few tidbits to answer some of your questions:
Astartes start out as regular humans who through certain methods (these can difer based on the space marine chapter) get selected often as early as 10-12 years old.
Thank you for the recommendation, i dont think others mentioned The Templin!

Also here's something fun, Henry Cavill (superman and geralt himself) is a dedicated fan of Warhammer and he has a custodes army (He's basically the Community's mascot all of us love him and his passion for 40k, he has a lot of interviews mentioning it.).
Space marines predate starship trooper
The oensman series the original first soave opera had power armor so that predates starship troopers by simply inventing the genre itself
Almosta everyth8ng in soace opera borrows feom the lensmen series the series focused on space police and militery on more service level and created many of the soace militery technologies that we see as normalised tropes today
@@demonic_myst4503 Starship Troopers the BOOK/MAGAZINE, is from 1959. It predates 40ks Space Marines by nearly 30 years.
If you're referring to the Lensman series, that was from 1966, Starship Troopers predates that too.
1:55 "Boarding... OR CRASHING?!" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ they're synonymous in this universe
Once you start the path there is no going back.
I can see that, I want more now!
14:20 LMAO that perspective never occurred to me
Thanks for the extra info! I am enjoy all the stuff I am learning!
And yeah maybe they are just testicles hehehe
"how thick is that armour?" ... Yes
The thing that hit it was a daemon having a nice snack in the warp, thats why you dont go in unshielded or with some precautions
7:05 - Psykers! Ok, yeah, you gotta go down the rabbit hole now.
I love how when the Inquisitor was fighting the possession and the space marines in the cape walks up like, “you better get a handle on this right now.”
As others have mentioned, you are SUPER observant, for a first time watcher. It's so refreshing to see someone watching this and actually thinking about what they're seeing, and making intelligent guesses.
I really enjoyed your reaction!
Wow, thank you! That means a lot to hear!
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy Absolutely no problem. I can't wait to watch the rest of your Warhammer reactions, and any future related content!
Appreciate the response!
Spacemarines are 3 meter tall dudes with a pile of bio and tech implants. They put on Crysis looking suits then armour. You can watch a couple of fan videos of armouring ritual.
Marines have 3 lungs, 2 hearts and ability to get info from eating brains. And pile of other similar stuff.
OMG so they kind of are like Krogens with extra organs. They seemed so big AND fast, I loved it. I'll check out some videos, thanks!
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy
_"Nothing that big should move that fast."_
Is a basic description of what we normie mortals call *Transhuman Dread.* Basically giving your brain a mini-aneurysm because it can't comprehend something so paradoxically big and fast.
Looking like blurs, or at their peak: crushing a man's skull within a heartbeat, after vaulting over a table.
both an Astartes and his suit of Powered Armor are masterpieces of technology their suits function almost like second skin to an Astartes thanks to the final implant the Black Carapace which is woven just beneath the skin the Marine's eye isn't damaged it's the helmet's eyepiece was broken showing a piece of technology called an Auspex.
"Astartes"
"They have failed, we must return, take their power."
Oh boy, you are in for a unique rabbit hole my friend.
An intro into the dark millennium by Garrot might be a good appetiser.
Fivish minute lore by The Old Man is funny. He touches on a lot of characters.
But brickey is a good start
Thank you for the info!
Space Marines have Jump packs. Imagine Jetpack but Astartes sized and 2 Boeing Jet Engines basicly
Well event horison is cosidered unofficial 40k movie of the first warp travel without the gallar field on...
Every time:
You: "(asks an honest question)"
Me: "Yeah. Yeah, you right."
I am just that smart tbh (not really, i just got lucky hehe)
Bolters/bolt pistols are the bastard child of a AK/WW2 flak gun/rpg.
3:50 - Yeah, and they're not bullets, they're bolter rounds (rocket-propelled explosives, as you'll see in a bit.)
1:45 - Gotta love the Caestus Assault Ram!
I will never get over that this whole thing is made by ONE GUY!!
There are many types of Astarties or Space Marines in Warhammer 40,000. What you saw were the men under Primarch Guilliman’s command. All loyal Space Marines stop for nothing until their objective is completed or are ordered to retreat.
For the emperor!!!
"How big are the bullets"
About .50 caliber I believe on the normal Bolter. Although they look wider but also somewhat shorter than ours here on earth It's basically a small grenade is how it was described to me the first time I saw this. You get a short look at the size of the shells when the psyker stops them with his force field
Not sure if anyones answered the questions or not but hee we go :)
The rounds the space marines fire from their bolters are essentially rocket propelled grenades instead of bullets.
The standsrd space marine armor, as shown in this video, isnt capable of flight or lift. The 'backpack' is the power pack for the suit with the round parts on the shoulders being the exhaust ports. If interested in what suits of armor that are capable of flight or lift look up 'assault space marine armor' or 'space marine jump pack'
Hope this was helpful and wecome to 40k, its a lovely place :)
Answers to your questions:
1: Warhammer (and Warhammer 40k) came out in the 1980s, so to your question concerning Halo...
_(That way they will not blow holes in the sides of space craft if they miss... which they don't ever really do.)_
4: YES.
_(He is also currently in stasis, trapped between life and death, keeping mankind able to travel the Warp... and keeping a flood of daemons from swarming Earth.)_
6: The figurines CAN be expensive, yeah, but a lot of people have started buying from other sources that just 3d print them.
Thank you for the information! ❤️
8:56 - Purity Seals. "Purity seals are a mark of a Space Marine's pure faith or morality in the eyes of the Emperor of Mankind and the Chapter."
Total myth
Bro I’ve watched this 100 of times and only now did I notice that maybe the shot he fired before he got sucked in was able to hit that thing and caused him to be transported there
thats how ya know its a great video when it has so many details within it!
What they are shooting are .75 cal (20mm) bolts, self-propelled APHEI (Armor Piercing High Explosive) shells that will penetrate the target and then explode inside for maximum damage.
Just stumbled here but if you see this bricky also has a podcast called adeptus ridiculous and it goes into a single faction, person, or topic in warhammer 40k for that episode they also joke around in it
9:58 - Yep! Captain and Lieutenant.
Event Horizon is actually a good call for this, in Warhammer 40K community it is considered to be an unofficial censored record of humanity´s first attempt at Warp travel.
The Russian badger has some videos on a couple of war hammer games if you’re interested. Sincerely an internet Florida man.
OH SNAP! Maybe i can do that one next/today. Thank you!
Majorkill is for those who need ADHD friendly vids
Baldermorte is for the scholars and roleplayers
Bricky will give you a quick synopsis on all the factions of 40k.
You got questions? These four are the go to guys. They also work with each other and are pretty cool dudes. But seriously, History of Humanity by Old Man Lore gives the human perspective.
Oh I haven't heard Majorkill be recommended yet, I'll check them and the others out! I can't wait to learn more of this grimdark world
If you want to see what they look like outside their armor there is the Teaser to:"The Lord Inquisitor" Grey Knights trailer
Oh snap, yes plz! Thank you!
Welcome to the OG inescapable rabbit hole.
You won't here his name heading a GW production either as they don't work like that
Yeah, the problem was he did good work, and someone DID notice.
Okay, your enthusiasm has me wanting to answer some questions about the setting and this video in particular. (More in the replies below)
0:37 Space marines are typically 7 and a half to 8 feet tall.
(Which they very nearly did during the Horus Heresy 10K years ago before the events of the current era, which was the civil war that put the Imperium in the state it is today, rather than the golden age it was leading up to.)
2:53 There are four Chaos gods in the setting of Warhammer 40k.
That is why he took cover and used a smoke/chaff/flash grenade
5:26 They are made from the geneseed of their Primarchs.
(Maybe some arrogance on the enemy's part.)
6:34 HAH, That's what she sa- erm.
350 -450 ish body and 5-700 pounds of armor
7:50 a combination of having to focus on their target, because again, you lose focus you potentially get soul nommed by demons and the speed at which Space Marines move (Roughly 20-30 miles per hour constant pace for a day at a time or pushing to 40-50 mph for short hour or two duration, then an hour rest to do it again.
12:32 less getting pushed back more the Orb was trying to take over their minds (During the conversation between the two orbs later on you hear them commenting on this "The Astartes deny our touch." Again because the Astartes have such mental fortitude and clad themselves in contempt for the chaotic powers, it takes subterfuge or what we call in the business an absolute fuckywucky to get space marines to fall to chaos. usually they're either tricked or they get betrayed and jsut go "fuck it, the imperium doesn't appreciate my grind, guess I'll go chaos."
13:36 good narrative trope instincts lmao
13:52 actually they're using those blades to force a connection to the orb on the ship, allowing the inquisitor (Or their lacky) to eavesdrop in on their conversation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some!
13:34 - Event Horizon is an excellent Warhammer movie.
"Who made the first space marine?"
Jimmy Space.
"How big are the boolets?"
Can of Red Bull.
"WTF are these guys made of!?"
Contempt.
"How did they sneak up on them!?"
Run at highway speed.
"Can these guys fly?"
Yes.
"I'm getting Event Horizon vibes."
Good, that was a prequel.
Someone mentioned the Jimmy space meme before and I still can't get over the retcon that made that meme spawn lol
The thing that’s scary about skeletons is that they outnumber us and we each have one inside, just waiting to get out… >_>;;
Well great, now I am scared of my own skeleton hahaha....ha
13:21 Funny that you mention Event Horizon, because interstellar travel in this universe is basically traveling through Hell (the Warp) with an anti-demon shield (a Gellar field)
If you wish to know more lore and memes I highly recommend bruva alfabusa TTS series. They'll give you a laughing help catch up fairly. Well sort of. At very least you'll get a grimdark and learn a little about the setting.
Oh haven't heard that channel yet, so thank you for the recommendation!
@@RaveSpecterReacts-qr5uy Just a warning. TTS is absolutely in no way lore accurate. Its a great show, but it requires a bit more lore knowledge to get its jokes
This was done by one man
The thing to remember about Space Marine Bolters, they're chambered in .998/75 cal.
So losing a hand or arm in 40k is like losing your teeth, easily replaceable and probably made cooler by technology
