Love your reaction. I agree rock, symphony, cultural instruments, cause an appreciated overload. You know the song but it is good different. Stay safe.🤟
This was from Wagakki Band Premium Symphonic Night Vol. 2 Live and orchestra in Osaka Jo-hall 2020. One night show only. Where Amy Lee was invited as a special guest for the performance of this song. WGB is an 8 piece band consisting of: Yuko Suzuhana - shigin/vocals (founder of WGB) Machiya - guitar, vocals Beni Ninagawa - shamisen (3 strings) Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (Japan's national instrument) Asa - bass Daisuke Kaminaga - shakuhachi (bamboo flute) Wasabi - drums Kurona - wadaiko (traditional drums) Wagakki translates to: Japanese musical instrument So that you can see what Wagakki band is, I recommend this one Wagakki Band - 華振舞 (Hana Furumai) / Dai Shinnenkai 2018 ~Ashita e no Koukai~
Wagakki Band is amazing! There are eight members and all of them are great musicians and performers. It was Yuko Suzuhana's idea to create this fusion band to revitalize interest in Japanese culture. They fuse traditional and modern instruments, singing and music. I recommend the song "Tengaku": Wagakki Band - 天樂 (Tengaku) / Dai Shinnenkai 2018 ~Ashita e no Koukai~ ua-cam.com/video/kSJNMQrrgvo/v-deo.html
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 This was filmed at Osaka-Jo (Castle) Hall with capa. of 16,000. This venue is known for its good acoustics for this kind of huge multi-purpose arena (reverberation time = 1.45 sec. etc.). It is very important to appreciate the beauty of Amy Lee's voice, and Yuko's as well. After this performance, Amy Lee posted a short video (2-min 30 sec) in YT about her happy experience in Japan with Wagakki Band including some hilarious scenes. You can find it with - Amy Lee & Wagakki Band.
Amy Lee's "Bring Me Back to Life" is a masterpiece that has been covered and collaborated around the world. Among them, I think that the live performance with WGAKKI-BAND held in Osaka in this video was the highest quality stage. Also, Yuko Suzuka, the lead vocalist of WAGAKKI-BAND, is a person with great multifaceted musical talent. Together with LOVEBITES guitarist Miyako, I think she is an excellent composer who will bring innovative achievements to the world of Japanese rock/metal music. ---------- from Nippon *It is a sentence using Google translation. About Wagakki Band instruments "WA" means Japan. "GAKKI" is an instrument. *WAGAKKI-BAND uses 4 types of WAGAKKI. ---------------- Many Japanese musical instruments have a history of over 1000 years. Despite the passage of time, it can be said that the characteristic of Japanese musical instruments is that the shape of the instrument and the method of playing have not changed much since its birth. This is in contrast to European instruments, which have constantly improved and evolved their instruments. (1) "KOTO" (a large, flat instrument about 6 feet) The ancestors of "KOTO" came to Japan from China about 1300 years ago. The body is made of high-density paulownia wood. Similar to stringed instruments such as the violin, the wavy grooves carved into the body resonate the sound. The strings are made of silk thread. Players attach nails called "KOTOZUME" to their fingertips and pluck the strings. A standard koto has 13 strings. A 17-string koto is also used, but WAGAKKI-BAND's IBUKURO plays the largest 25-string koto. (2) "Shamisen" (a banjo-like instrument) In general, the shamisen is often used as an accompaniment instrument for ballads and pop-style traditional music. However, WAGAKKI-BAND's BENI plays a specially designed shamisen called "Tsugaru Shamisen". "Tsugaru-jamisen" has a faster and more powerful sound and a unique performance style compared to ordinary shamisen. The reason why this style was created is related to the fact that TSUGARU-SHAMISEN was born in the extremely cold region of northern Japan. Visually impaired people living in a harsh natural environment earned income by having people listen to their songs and performances, and they were protecting their lives. They have created a unique musical style that is both exciting and shocking. The shamisen is played with special claws called BACHI. The three strings are silk threads. I think that most of the sheets on the shamisen body are now made of synthetic leather. Originally, however, dog skin was used (performers who need a delicate sound sometimes use a thinner cat skin shamisen). (3) “Wadaiko” "WA (Japan)" + "TAIKO (drums)" = "WATAIKO". And the pronunciation changes from "WATAIKO" to "WADAIKO". Wadaiko, like Shamisen, has evolved uniquely throughout Japan, and has a variety of shapes and playing methods. There is a band called "Kodo" which is famous as a taiko group in Japan. They tour the world with Japanese taiko performances. If you are interested in WADAIKO, we recommend listening to Kodo performances. There are also many videos uploaded on UA-cam. Try searching for "KODO". (4) "SHAKUHACHI" (a flute-like bamboo instrument) Until about 60 to 70 years ago, in Japan, units of length called "Shaku" and "Sun" were used. ("sun" sounds like a shortened version of "soon") "1-shaku" is 30.3cm. "1-sun" is 3.03cm. "Hachi" is the number "8". And the average length of "SHAKUHACHI" was "1-shaku and 8-sun (about 56 cm)", so the "shaku and 8" part became the name of the instrument. The material is cut from the base of bamboo. It is a simple structure that only requires the necessary finger holes after drying the material and removing the distortion. It is not easy to produce complex sounds with a simple instrument. Shakuhachi is said to be one of the most difficult Japanese instruments to master. There is a word in Japanese that expresses this. “It takes three years of practice to control the intensity of sound by moving the head and neck subtly.” and "It takes eight years of training to be able to control the fingers accurately and produce a good sound." ---------- from Nippon *It is a sentence using Google translation. Great reaction. :) Amazing performance, Wagakki Band is very unique band and this cover just sounds so well in this arrangement. And of course Amy Lee's vocal, incredible. :) Btw... I think it's "Bring Me to Life", without "back". :P
This is a great cover, and I love both it and the original, but I do hope you check out more of them. Great as this (and Amy and Evanescence) is, I do find this to be the video that showcases all they can do the least. Not sure why - maybe the orchestra or the Shijin style being a little less prominent - but as awesome as this is, Waggaki Band can do - and does - better. Please crawl into this rabbit hole. ^_^

Great reaction! Based on your comments, you must see and hear the EVANESCENCE SYTHESIS LIVE dvd! It's the songs of Evanescence with symphonic arrangements. I suggest the opening tracks of OVERTURE/ NEVER GO BACK where you can witness the musical genius of Amy Lee!! I promise you won't be disappointed. There is a video on UA-cam. 🤘
This is a epic collaboration of talent! Amy and Yuko go so well together!

I love Amy Lee, That Japanese girl out singing her now. She is hitting the reverberation like old school Japan music while hitting the notes
Amy has an album Synthesis that is an entire orchestra backing her and the band , should check it out
