- Somalia is experiencing severe drought. More than 7 million people face severe food insecurity.
Since 2021 there has been a 60% reduction in annual rainfall leading to five consecutive failed harvests.
This coupled with a doubling of fuel prices and a steep rise in food prices has had a huge impact on the country’s small-scale farmers, who have been unable to afford fuel for their irrigation pumps and fertilizers to use on their farms.
See how IFAD and the governments of the Netherlands and Italy has been supporting projects that are helping farmers continue to farm using solar technology.
