Polaris, Work, 23, Just Watch the Fireworks, and Table for Glasses have all made me cry more than once in my life. So beautiful--such lyrical mastery sprinkled with that music and his voice?!?
@Greg Gotti - Which version are you referring to OR would you recommend? There are about a thousand options for "Jim Adkins - Polaris Acoustic" when searching....
My sister gifted this album to me when I was in 6th grade. I learned every song by heart... I was feeling heartbreak I’d never actually experienced before. Now as I revisit it as a 27 year old, these songs mean even more to me than ever.
This song and this whole album was on repeat during the most horrible break up of my life. It was on repeat along with third eye blind. Some cold play. Few other bands. I wasted 5 years with the wrong woman and I was used up to the point of an attempted suicide from alcohol, the military broke me, I lost myself and I lost her, my family abandoned me, after the breakup she slept with all of my friends at least 3 of them, so that stung horribly, some friends right? I deleted them all from my life. 2017 was the darkest year for me. But I remember every morning before work I had my headphones on as I sat in my empty living room with my dog, I had polaris on, and somehow this song specifically carried me to get through another terrible ass day.
Been there, maybe not as bad as you, but also thinked about killing myself because a girl left me and did horrible things. Even though I loved her, she was not the correct person for me neither was I for her. Hopefully you are better now.
" i feel that when im old, ill look at you and know.... the world was beautiful." gives me chills and literally brings me to tears everytime i hear this song. its crazy how just a few words can move the soul.
It’s 2023 and I’m in Paris for the first time in my life. Went to Gare du Nord and this song came back instantly. This album remains a very important part of my history. Polaris, 23, Work, Kill… got me through some tough times. Still a big fan.
how strange life is when you're 17 man, i can barely recall. it's staggering really. at 31 it feels so far away, and i have put on so many additional layers of self, or identity, or whatever.. who the hell was i back then?
You know what I hate? The fact that people wont give a band a try by listening to one song. Taking nothing away from the middle but if someone heard Jimmy Eat World's other songs like this and Disintegration most of their songs wouldn't have less than a million views today.
farhan alam I think people just listeng what is pop, cause their melodies and notes are simples, but theres a lot of people who haves a better music taste and see more than just popular songs I meen they see the melodies, the lyrics, the chorus and the feels in the songs and I really enjoy knowing their taste (Sorry if I spell someting wrong or i made someting mistakes, I still learning about english and improving my writting)
Lefty SM is one of my favorite musicians and his music has helped me through so much. I wish he was around for me to say thank you. There are so many others that has gotten me through so much. Jimmy eats world is amazing too!😘😥👻👽
This is my favorite song, then 23 and then Kill. To me they are about the same story, in order actually, first Kill which is about the insecurity of trying to be with someone, then Polaris about wondering without that someone and then 23 about trying to get over this person. The begging, the middle and the end. Such an amazing album and pretty much my favorite, even though Chase this light and Integrity Blues are also awesome.
I've been a huge fan of Jimmy eat world since 1998. I remember when I was 14, my friend gave me a cassette tape with "call it in the air" on it and I became obsessed! I didn't know the name of the song and search engines really sacked back then, so I went onto Napster and downloaded every song of them to find the name of that song. Then bought the cd because Napster only had really crappy quality Haha. Wow, I'm super old :/. Anyways, fan for life, They're absolutely amazing! Anberlin comes second. PS a praise chorus is awesome to sing at a karaoke bar lol.
''When you go il let you be'' one of the hardest things to do in life, it really is. Hence the lyric''your killing everything in me'' =( love this song
This gotta be my favorite Jimmy Eat World. It is filled with emotions, from beginning to end. It is true what it says: "... when you go I let you be, but you are killing everything in me" When you love someone you let them go because it's their right to be free with whomever they want, even if that kills you inside. I want to go to the Gare du Nord station on Paris and listen to this song as a train arrives, this is a life goal for me.
Im 40 and grew up on a steady diet of punk, pop•punk, not much if any emo but JEW hit different than other 'emo' acts I've heard. Honest, sharp, hella introspective songwriting combined with catchy, but not corny guitar riffs, make this band consistently solid. Well worth a dive into their deeper cuts if youre so inclined. ☠️
Am I the only one who thinks this song represents some of our lives in such a way that it will never will be fine? Its what this song makes me feel like.. It makes me think about so many things that happened in my life. Im sure there are more feeling this way :\
Such a biographical song for me.....its been said that you only know true love one in a lifetime...my first love....I had to let go and for the last 35 years, she is still killing everything in me!
I'm in tears laying in my brother's bed. I have it at my apartment, I sleep I it. it is now my bed. my brother was my everything. he was younger. he died by suicide. I never faced it, and now over a year later it's constant panic and anxiety attacks, no appetite, no sex drive nothing. I am feeling lost all over again, then I hear this and I break down so hard.
I'm really sorry for your loss... I've never faced anything like this, so I may be no good in giving advice, but... Don't ever give up. Ever. Life is both horrible and beautiful, and there are events that can put ourselves to test our strength... But we must keep on going, even if we are weak, even if there is no more sense in anything, because, one day, some silver lining will appear (as cliché as this might sound). And you are not alone! There is always somebody to help you out, really. It´s going to be allright

Notawesomeatall7 I think it's about a relationship ending, and he's saying that when the person leaves he will let her be, but he's going to be really hurt about it.

I feel that when I'm old
I'll look at you and know
The world was beautiful
Just Watch the Fireworks is a beautiful piece of art.
Look up Jim Adkins (the singer's) solo acoustic version of that song. It's fucking phenomenal.
Someone's THIRSTY! haha (@Andrew Bishop ^)
"Always be hungry, never thirsty"

There's something really special about this album. Futures forever.
You are correct this is a special album. I remember how I discovered it via an episode of Smallville and I just love this album
Yeah All tracks are superb!

For sure; I’m 35 and I don’t think it’s an accident that I gave your comment the 35th like :)

Can't believe I struggled to find this song on here. Massively underrated. More people need to hear this tune!
Love this song. Such an underrated band.

Easily one of their best songs. Nothing will ever top Goodbye Sky Harbor though for me.

Anyone want to clarify what this song is about?
Notawesomeatall7 I think it's about a relationship ending, and he's saying that when the person leaves he will let her be, but he's going to be really hurt about it.
Thank you. Especially for not being a dick about it.
Lol you're welcome, I'm not 100 percent sure if that's what the song is about, but that's what I take from it. :)
