As an architect, I took particular interest in Bjorn’s collaboration with Soen-Zoen. This landscape architect (garden maker) listens carefully to him and finds ways to add a professional, creative touch to what Bjorn has initially envisioned. With such open discussions as these two are able to have, magic can and does happen. This is what I have enjoyed most about my profession. Bjorn’s story telling and video editing are top notch. I am captured by the chronicles of the relocation to Japan and wish Bjorn and family the very best as they move forward in Kyoto.
In Australia you'd probably have to do all the designs yourself, be massively overquoted, and then have to beg them to complete the job on time & budget (still wouldn't be done on either). Sensational looking plan, love the depth of thought that you've put into it to keep the important traditional parts but also ensure the bonsai themselves are the highlight
Wooooow! Super impressed with the design skill of Zoen-San! Her drawings and layout skills were mindblowing. Thanks for taking us along for the journey Bjorn!
For this design you're "growing from seed" - can't wait to see this come to life Bjorn!! I especially like the granite monkey poles, this garden will be around for a long time.
The amount of work they do for free hoping to get a contract is amazing! You've chosen a great firm to handle your design. Can't wait to see the construction process and updates.
Happy for you and your family, Bjorn. The plans look great, and like everyone else, I can't wait to see the construction of the house and the garden take shape. Exciting stuff!
Landscape architect: you shouldn’t re-plant a tree at this age. 🌳 Bonsai artist: hold my kama.🔪😂 Seriously though, I absolutely loved watching along with this collaboration on your dream garden. 👏🏽 💥
These plans look amazing. If the garden was completely open to the public, I'm sure it'd turn into quite the tourist attraction 😃 I'm looking forward to seeing how everything will develop! Good luck 🙂
Loving these videos . As someone who has a fascination with japan these are a real treat to watch . Appreciate your time taken to show us whats happening in your life .
The design looks great and you are living your dream. I wish you every success. My question would be: what is the business model? Is it escorted bonsai tours, finding and curating bonsai collections for others, running workshops, working on customer bonsai trees, or commercially growing and cultivating trees, or attendance and public speaking at events? All of the above? Does the space cover everything you need or envisage for your business? Or will the business activity happen elsewhere? With the landscaped garden and house, it doesn’t seem much space is left for the business. Looking forward to you breaking ground and starting the build, and finally being able to show us the completed project.
I have to say it's been fascinating watching the build process. It seems very different to the way it works in the UK. Much more personal and friendly. I'm excited to see it all coming together!
It is so wonderful that you invite us to see the designs and construction of your new home and garden in Kyoto. Looking forward to your subsequent overviews of your new home, as well as your continuing videos on our bonsai adventures. Happy for you and family.
22:33 On paper the garden en house are looking already amazing ! Can't wait to see when it will be finished, however it will take some time I believe. Goof luck with the project. Best regards Gino from Holland
I was just thinking about your garden in relation to the house being built. Can’t wait to see both coming together as the property takes shape. Good luck, so many decisions to be made. Should be beautiful, and hopefully look like it’s been there many years.
Bjorn how amazing you must be buzzing , happy for you and your family. I am currently building a Japanese garden in the UK it's hard work but yours will be amazing cannot wait to see the process , i love the Japanese people ,the way they live, the respectful way they live . Good luck , god bless and keep us updated!!!
I imagine this is all very exciting and scary all at once but amazing overall. I must say having met you and have had you at my home with my family and knowing what an amazing man/human you are. Japan is lucky to have you and we are less one great American. But I will look forward to visiting you in japan my friend. Los mejores deseos para una muyr buena persona!
Can’t wait to see the progress on the construction! the plans and details I can already picture in my head. The way you’re using the properties layout I think will give it a much larger fell!
It will be a beautiful garden. I have to admit, since I walk with a cane, that the portion of the walkway with the smaller stones (4:38) could be uncomfortable to a person with mobility issues.
I love this kind of videos. It is wonderful to see the progress of your project. Thank you for allowing me to get closer day by day, in a country and a culture so different from Spanish culture. It's fascinating. Regards
At 10:35, you talk about the neighbors looking into your bathtub, and you consider planting a large deciduous tree. Would an evergreen be better, as it would obviously block the view even in winter?
Love the design and can’t wait to see this come together. I know your wife wants a persimmon tree, but I would highly recommend you not put one in. The fruit is insidious and if you aren’t picking them up daily, they will turn into a rotting mess, especially if you have gravel around. Best decision I made was to remove one in my yard after we moved in. Just my two cents 🍻
All looking so great and so much attention to detail. Thoughts that did enter my mind were - no workshop area ? , customer trees go where ? a nursery area for plants ? (If I missed that bit apologies ) I would love this to be my garden but way too hot and harsh light over our summer.. Keep the videos coming keenly interested..
As a garden owner in the same prefecture I strongly recommend against fruit trees as they attract ALOT of bugs. The same goes for sakura trees although shidarezakura may be a bit stronger.
I agree with everyone else. Thanks for sharing this ride and looking forward to the next step in the construction of your home and garden! Glad to see someone creating their dream...
So, Bjorn have you introduced yourself to your neighbors bringIng them gift's? And I love the 3 5 play among the elements. And I like the Notation and Respect to with the Separation for front to back...
Having been to your Nashville garden you had much more space to collect, display and sell trees, not to mention conducting classes. Is that the plan for here or will this be a private garden and another location will be for business activity?
Another brilliant video Bjorn , such an amazing journey , hopefully it is finished for when we visit Kyoto in May next year as I would love to visit your garden and see your bonsai in person.
Wow! What an amazing journey. Seems like you have found the perfect match with Soneson ( forgive spelling errors). You are doing amazing things and I thank you for sharing them with me and the world. I’m new to bonsai but very passionate about it and am curious how one can make a living. Not my business at all so feel free to ignore this question, but how do you plan to make a living with this house/ in Japan? The running a nursery I understand as a revenue making business. The how to make money in Japan is where I’m lost. I know you’ve figured it out. Just wondering what’s the secret? It seems like budget is not an issue for you and I’m happy for you! Congratulations on the success you have found in life!
Bjorn it so awesome layout for new home and Bonsai garden.Bjorn will you Use Bonsai Trees you Design though Out your Garden? Will you have a someone in America Sell your Shirts? Bjorn idea for your shirt you have On . On the Back Your Layout of your Bonsai Garden. Bjorn when you look at those Stone Lanterns Can you Save that tree ? Last I think the Neighbors will love your Place.
Find the right Stewartia pseudocamellias for that middle section and it could really act to tie that side of the house together, pulling in greys from both the entry walkway and stones, and tans and browns from the concrete and gravel further along. I'm curious why you are planning to use a deciduous tree to block view of your bathtub, though.
What a wonderful land u left in US and for a pice of land u r struggling in Japan . So sad . Any way good luck .best wishes. S very hard to see your struggling once again , every thing you have to start from scratch. Best Wishes from India 🇮🇳.
They are from the mountains. I’m guessing the nursery owns the land and can harvest the trees. Usually they root prune the season before to reduce shock when it is removed. YT “Japanese garden tv” has several videos of this.
Most municipalities have zoning laws that try to maintain commercial properties in commercial zones and residential in residential zones. Having a formal garden has everything to do with having guests in a formal setting while maintaining private residents. It's the kind of place where you can entertain formal guests (think business) and maintain a private paradise. I'm not sure about the business model Bjorn is thinking about but I don't have any doubts that going forward his videos won't disappoint.

Hey Bjorn
So much love, so many details. It is amazing! Once again 😃👍🏻
Thank you to let us be a part of this 🙏
Can‘t wait to see the final result during open house party 😉 keep focused and happy ✌🏻
Happy for you and your family, Bjorn. The plans look great, and like everyone else, I can't wait to see the construction of the house and the garden take shape. Exciting stuff!
Only reason I study bonsai and horticulture, is because I first loved J gardens and niwaki pruning. So, this project is a big treat! ✨✨

What a fun project. Thank you for opening up your home and sharing with us.
there is a sport mutation of Eriobotrya japonica that blooms whole year repetitive. Sort is called 'Piera' by a swiss nursery called Lubera.

I hope to come see your garden someday after it is finished Bjorn. I'll have to find someone to care for my bonsai while I am gone though.

Nice color grading.
Great video
It’s going to look incredible when it’s done

For another option on stone lanterns, visit Kitayama Tokan-en (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto)?
Hi, you are doing a beautiful project, would you share the projects costs? thanks
gonna look amazing!! ☸️

I wonder what a project like this costs in Japan.
👍👌🙂
how to apply as an apprentice bjorn???
Does anyone know the formal term for the monkey pole stands?
👌👍
Oh, and no Shishi Dodoshi or Koelreuteria Bipinnata?
I came here for the dog where is he?
Schade, diesmal hast du die Untertitel in anderen Sprachen außer Englisch nicht aktiviert😢
The guys building your house (block, framing) will appreciate it if you don't landscape (plant trees) before the house is built. :)
They won’t be planted until after the house is built. Just carried to the rear of the house for now.
Where's your daughter going to be able to play?
Is there a play area fir your little girl?
16:20 these trees she's showing you, they don't look like nursery stock... Whats the laws on collecting trees?
Those could be just field grown nursery trees.
They are from the mountains. I’m guessing the nursery owns the land and can harvest the trees. Usually they root prune the season before to reduce shock when it is removed. YT “Japanese garden tv” has several videos of this.
@@LinusCello75 That's a great idea.
I thought the nursery would be bigger
Omg....did you leave your camera while you were driving off?!?
I don't get it, I thought he would build a new nursery in Japan. This is a house garden with only few trees, surely not enough bonsai space...😢
