It really sounds like the security guard did the best he could given the circumstances he was placed in. Even with this still being an "active" investigation the praise of the security guard's actions by the homicide detective seems to indicate that charges against the security guard are HIGHLY unlikely. Sad that life was lost here but when you've got kids and families around and a crazy person swinging a knife you gotta act. Hope that security guard finds peace with what happened. Even when you're "in the right" it is still an enormous burden to take a human life.
Respectfully, I would encourage people to try to be rational and not emotional and hyperbolic. Getting a call for a trespassing call where the person is agitated is not the crime of the Century. I guess you don’t realize that there are other felonies that need to be taken care of before hand. But of course it’s always easier to throw rocks. There are plenty of areas in this country where the number one most important call takes 20 minutes to get the police there, so to complain that a trespassing call was gonna take 15 minutes, big deal.
HEBs are ghetto period. Heb is the dumbest grocery chain and is loved by dumb ignorant diabetic drugaddict people. Always homeless and a security guard there
It sounds like the security guard did everything he could reasonably do to attempt to de-escalate the situation. Based on the events described in this video, APD should hire him to train some of their officers. There are numerous examples of the opposite - lacking or poor de-escalation attempts - by some APD officers over the last few years. Especially the younger officers who lack the depth of experience older officers have accumulated, many of whom have retired or are retiring. This problem likely to get worse before it improves, given current APD staffing and how it is projected to grow over the next few years. These are important issues executive leadership in APD needs to address.

14-15 minutes waiting for the police. We're on our own, folks.

yep... exactly why HEB hired a security guard.... when seconds count, Austin PD is hours away
Businesses have to hire level 4 guards to keep folks safe - that’s the bigger picture!!! The PD is emaciated.
He is licensed 2 ,3 and 4 he was working level 3 witch is armed in uniform level 4 is armed in plain clothes more of a armed body guard
