      My take is that if you feel emotional because you feel seen, cry away!!! Those are the good tears.

    Of course you are heard. You are inspiring all of the people who are scared of messing up and looking bad in a home made costume. Your insight and previous use of the patterns gives us confidence that our projects will turn out well. Thank you.

    Until this week I thought I was rather alone in my interests: World civilization, women in history, driving horses, and constructing historical garments. To be fair, I live in a metropolitan city where there are numerous ways to occupy oneself. I am not able to travel to costuming events and, frankly, crafting from home while participating in an historic weekend filled with amazing talent is thrilling! As I sit here watching and listening to Historical Belle, I am cutting out some of her favorite patterns: American Duchess, and Truly Victorian. I do have the Past Patterns pattern...and plan to use that pagoda sleeve next (wink). Thanks for your wonderful presentation!

    I stopped reading instructions after design school. The way school explained it made it so much EASIER. Now I never read them. Love the video. I'm currently working on Regency and like Sense and Sensibility patterns, although the armholes are tricky!

    • @HistoricalBelle
      @HistoricalBelle  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I also find it that sewing is easier when not reading the instructions. And oh that sounds lovely. I have not done much regency era sewing, but hope to in the future. I was inspired by all of the beautiful costumes in the new Emma Movie

    I am not that used to using patterns, but my favorite right now is probably McCalls M7373, as it is a jacket with a really full skirt and princess seams! I have searched for ages for a pattern like that, so I was really happy when I found it. The princess seamed bodice and the alternative for two pieced sleeves is something I think I get a lot of use out of in the future as I can use it as starting points when modifying a pattern for another project.

    This was so helpful!! I'm always worried about patterns that have fashion drawings on the packet because real people don't look like that. I'm a bit thicker, so it's really nice seeing how these drawings translate to an actual human. Thank you!!

    I watched this video while finishing the hem on my 15th century italian gown and then pinking some of the inner seams :)). It's now fully completed other than making oversleeves and maybe adding a little more decoration. I am a fellow historical costumer and I love watching videos about historical costuming while I'm sewing. This was a really interesting video! I actually have that first american duchess pattern and have made that dress too! My recommendations for patterns would definitely be to check out laughing moon mercantile for regency era patterns. I also love using renaissance fabrics for fabric (they have really good prices in my opinion, and I got the silk taffeta for the gown I just finished from them). I've also got a few folkwear patterns I have to make at some point. I also think some of the simplicity patterns out there can be useful, and you can make them historically accurate (for example I made a lace-up back w/hand-sewn eyelets on the dress I just finished rather than using a zipper!.
    Also the point where you cried was so relatable, it is so freaking cool to find out that there are other people who do historical costuming too. I'm semi-new to it, I started back in July, and I love that there's a community for it out there (just have to find some local events once covid is over!). Your channel looks awesome and I subscribed :). People definitely want to hear you talk about this!

      Your 15th century Italian gown sounds lovely! Thank you so much for watching. I also like to watching sewing UA-cam videos while sewing or I watch period dramas haha. I've made a couple of Regency Dresses, but was not thrilled with the patterns I used, so I will definitely check out Laughing Moon Mercantile! I will also have to check out the Silk Baron. Thank you so much for the recommendations!
      It's so awesome to meet people with similar interests through CosTube, especially since we cannot meet in person at the moment. Welcome to my favorite hobby ever!!!! And thank you so much for subscribing!!!!!

    This was super helpful for me, thank you! You are so beautiful in your gorgeous dresses. It's really valuable to me to see the dresses that people make from patterns that only have a drawing on the cover. It gives me a better idea of what it looks like on a real human being.

    My favorite victorian pattern I've ever made was an Ageless Patterns 1887 cloak (AP #1619) that had cape "sleeves" - it was a bit tricky for my ability as of 20 years ago when I made it (I decided to line it and had NO idea what I was doing, but I forged ahead and Just Did The Thing).
    But its the one I wear as an over robe to fantasy and costume events (I added a wand pocket to it for a Harry Potter-centric academic event - so of course ANY wizarding type event I go to I wear it.). I'd love to make it again with better materials - and of course I know more now! Its still something I am extremely proud of.
    I love to hear your take on the various patterns you like and especially WHY, and of course the "favorite sleeve and undersleeve" are going to make it into more dresses! You like the way they look and feel! Some of the videos I enjoy the most are pattern reviews. Costuming Drama has done a bunch and I love to hear Noelle talk about what she liked and didn't like about each pattern (and how easy or fiddly or whatever she found them). So yes, please continue to make these types of videos!

    Thank you so much for sharing patterns. I like having a guide that I can then go my own direction with. Instructions: "They're more like guidelines, really..." Oh and one of those looked like the animated Alice and Wonderland, the sister of Alice. I have always loved that dress... I need one in my life. That's a lot of foundations I need to make... 0.0

      I agree. I have run into more problems following pattern directions. Common sense works much better. And if you have experience sewing you’ve probably found a better way to do it. Our ancestors didn’t get instructions with their homemade, hand-me-down patterns. Sometimes they had to take a garment apart and make a pattern from that. Often there wasn’t enough fabric☹️. They improvised. They couldn’t get trim or it was too expensive, they made their own. And by the way I’ve always thought that stop signs and speed limits were just suggestions. 🤣🤣
