In my opinion, John V’s well founded concern (51:20 - 55:20) regarding the placement of “home” for humanity (and it’s impact even on the religious) in the face of tsunamic technology, and the need to discern an understanding/response, IS of greatest importance!
Especially interesting the conversation about women entering the Meaning Crisis space. The Emperor Constantine was converted by his mother, and the Christian success wrt rejecting the excesses of pagan Rome can arguably be set at the feet of the women of the era rejecting their devaluation - which has echoes in today's pornified culture.
Constantine did not become Emperor because of his good nature. He was and remained until he died a power hungry psychopath who saw utility in the Christianity as a way to expand his power over Rome, far easier to control a monotheistic than a polytheistic people .There is great doubt on any conversion or any influence his mother had on him but there is consensus around him murdering his wife by drowning her in boiling bath water. The co-opting of the Christian faith into the Roman empire was the biggest error made by Christians, admittedly it allowed it to become a global religion but the price paid was a loss in divine Spirituality and an acceleration of corruption within the Vatican, hence the mess we have today with the destruction of any believe in a metaphysical existence or any real acknowledgement of evil in this world. God Bless.
#Toko-Pa grapples with the sense of finding home within the self and in community in her book Belonging. It was really helpful for me in dealing with my past of being brought up by a self-centered and Dark Mother. I found permission in the book to be imperfect. If you are concerned about your event being too male oriented I believe she would have a lot to add.
Jonathan I was wondering if you would consider talking on the topic of the symbolism of life after death in christianity. Specifically what it means for someone to “live eternally through Christ.”
John Pageau, what do you think about workers rights and the American Labor movement? I know youre orthodox and not catholic, but I think Dorothy Day or GK Chesterton are good examples of incredible people of God who recognized the horror of capitalism. Hope to hear from you.
Y’all should check out flights to Ontario, California. You may be surprised how cheap you can get a flight for. And camping would be a super fun experience. You’ll be super glad you went!
"This inward inclination is in no way due to creatures or their bidding, for what creatures direct or effect always comes from without. But by this work it is only the ground (of the soul) that is stirred, and the freer you keep yourself the more light, truth, and discernment you will find. Thus no man ever went astray for any other reason than that he first departed from this, and then sought too much to cling to outward things. St. Augustine says there are many who sought light and truth, but only outside where it was not to be found. Finally they go out so far that they never get back home or find their way in again. Thus they have not found the truth, for truth is within, in the ground, and not without. So he who would see light to discern all truth, let him watch and become aware of this birth within, in the ground." Meister Eckhart
I believe we humans are PATTERNED to be servants of God. The Elohim created animals also with certain programs/patterns. So a lion is never going to stand on two legs, put on a tutu, and start smoking a cigar. Humans have a pattern and it is prudent to respect, not unlike the fact that it is wise to eat the foods that are actually nourishing for our bodies.
Vervaeke is talking a lot about AI. Has he read The Revolutionary Phenotype by Quebecois biologist Dr Gariépy? It's a must-read to understand the dangers of AI.
Hey guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice here. I'm not yet on the path but striving for it so please mind my seemingly degenerate actions here. I took LSD this last Christmas in the hopes of having an experience that might aid in reducing my alcohol consumption and hopefully lead to better behaviour. I made the mistake of doing so while also listening to some of my favourite bands, so the whole experience turned out to be more pleasurable than it was profound. I did however come back from the experience with one Idea (I guess) and that was: "All things seek to return to the centre" I won't go into what specifically brought on this idea unless anyone wants to know, but after recently sharing this idea of returning to the centre with someone they pointed me to Pageaus work. I've had some experience with his work from Peterson and Vervaeke but I don't have any idea where to start with Pageau that would be productive in understanding this. Does anyone here have any suggestions as to where one might start?
Are you asking where to start on Pageau's work specifically? He has a number of playlists on his channel, and one such list is an "introduction to symbolism" (or something like that). That's a good starting point, I think.
I would recommend reading the Hindu text the Baghdad Gita. Even if you’re not spiritual or religious there is still great wisdom within this story. It ties into your idea of returning to the one.
Sorry Jonathan, after watching the intro with the crazy old guy saying, "Boo hoo, the kids today have it so rough," baloney! Yeah, I'm 71 and couldn't find a job when I got my Masters (with two kids) and had to figure it out - just like everyone else. I put myself through college by working while taking classes full-time with no student loans and ended up with four college degrees (my third degree with four kids and my fourth with six kids) and had a good career and am now retired. I also worked at a university counseling center with students on academic probation (three of my degrees are in psychology) and put them through personality, aptitude, IQ, and other psychological testing, group therapy sessions, life-work planning classes, etc., and turned their lives around. Kids that go to college for partying or because they don't know what else to do after high school obviously need guidance because their problem is immaturity and not lack of opportunity. You actually have to think and plan to make a life. A college degree does not entitle you to have a good-paying job, as your introductory speaker explicitly indicated, and part of vocational counseling is looking at the realities of life and what you can expect, and not expect, from college. This is why every university has a counseling center. Kids don't have to live with their parents until into their 30s. The idea that whoever this guy was, at the beginning of this video, treating today's kids as victims is hogwash. Who is this guy, because I don't want to listen to someone this ignorant (undoubtedly he's an academic "thinker" who hasn't dealt with people in the real world and "philosophizes" instead of helping people I'm guessing)? Please don't let him near any students. If anything, kids today have many more opportunities than ever because people like me actually worked our whole lives to make it so. Having worked as a vocational counselor that guy in your intro is anathema because he's going to make kids feel like victims which is the absolute worst thing you can do. I can't watch this episode because your little intro clip was so horrible. It looks toxic to me. Sorry, as a regular listener to your channel, I'm sure it got better, but you chose the wrong guy to feature as a teaser because what he said was pure idiocy! If you want people to watch your program, have someone say something sane at the beginning.
Go home you’re drunk. Thanks for telling youtube how hard you worked getting your degrees and are now sucking the teet of social security while retired. I find it hard to believe you have 1 degree let alone 4 with this lack of self awareness. If you listened to the interview you would’ve heard that the guys son is a highschool history teacher, you’re 71, I assume your highschool history teacher was a sole income of his household with probably at least 2 kids. All John V is saying is that that’s pretty much impossible given the current state of affairs. And if your recommending a career change in your monologue there, is that your answer to every teacher until there are none? Time to go to bed gramps the meds have worn off
You're not at all in touch with what's happening if you think your entrance into the world is at all comparable to the new generation entrance. Source, splitting the difference between the two
I agree we shouldn't give youth victim mentality,And we should acknowledge times have changed. Working full time average job is No longer enough to afford to live off. Ave cost to afford a place to live is not same as it was 20+ years ago. The approach is Yes it's hard and Yes you can find ways to overcome these challenges. Vervaeke pointing that out is not an issue
Thanks
Here to proclaim what immense value and incalculable transformation these events have because of Kathryn!

Verveake fears AI because he doesn’t properly fear the lord.
