    Excellent explanation of the LX17's features - that's what you want when you are searching for a piano....not simply playing ...Great Job!!!

    Wonderful sounding piano. Though the RD 88 also sounds great, this looks better and has much better speakers. I would love to own this keyboard.

    Contrary to what a few have said, the person on the piano explaining how this new modelled piano sound works, he is nothing short of awesome!! He does an excellent job.
    If you want more playing, do a search on youtube and you will find various samples of playing on this piano.
    For instance: ''Roland LX-17 Digital Piano Performance by Miyuji Kaneko '' at ua-cam.com/video/GPJP65EMK50/v-deo.html

      Totally agree... I thought I was getting a Yamaha, but ended up getting the Roland. This guy, and the wonderful old sales guy at the store (who mainly deals in selling actual steinways) made it a no brainer. My old Yahama had weighted keys, and everything, but when I got to perform on a steinway, I suddenly felt I was playing an entirely different instrument. My first test with Rolands felt wonderfully similar.. there is so much variation in how touch, and pedal effect the sound.... These little details translate better if you have to transition from practicing on a digital to performing on an acoustic (imho).
      I do think Yahamas sound better if I bang out some even chords... but as soon as I'm trying to do anything subtle in my playing, or dealing with craziness (looking at you Prokofiev) the Roland shines, and the Yahama felt dead and digital in comparison.
      If you try one out, the easiest way to hear the difference is hold down the pedal, and do a glissando, and listen to how the sound decays. Above all, never purchase anything like a higher end digital piano without playing it first lol.

    I was told the Yamaha DGX 660 was better. The demo was impressive, but I don't know... The price tag is different, and this baby is beautiful. Anyone knows how these two compare? I was under the impression the Roland was going to be better.

    What I don't like about this kind of demos are that the piano is recorded via line, rather than in good room mics. That would for me at least be more interesting. I like to hear it as I would hear it at home.

      You cant. Unless it was recorded binaural. The whole point of these piano is not to produce a stereo emulation of a recorded grand... if you want that get garritan cfx... wich is like miking a grand with the best sound chain in the world ( abbey road console...preamp...best mic....etc) so the fibish product is like a amazing recording of a grand... the roland emulate trought 8 speaker the acoustic projection of a grand... overtone are send to tweeter... bass to sub... hammer noise behind the key bed... this cannot be mic.
      Putting a mic on this will give you a result that would be mediocre compare to a vst. Hearing it in person is very different

    Will Roland produce a downloadable software version of their Supernatural Modelling that you could play with your current midi controller in the same way you play Ivory or Pianoteq?

    • @reidys
      @reidys  8 років тому

      +DonswatchingtheTube There are no plans as of yet, although it seems pretty unlikely to be honest.

    • @Colosphonium
      @Colosphonium 5 років тому

      No... the supernatural engine is bound to a multichannel speaker system. If you want a simple software get pianoteq it doesnt haveany multi channel output.

    How does the sound on this instrument compare to the Yamaha CLP585?

    • @reidys
      @reidys  8 років тому

      +Steven Smith The CLP is sample-based technology so definitely has a different feel compared to the supernatural modelling technology in here. As a result, the CLP is less customisable compared to the Roland. The CLP still has a fantastic piano tone, but it's just different!

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 7 років тому

      It sounds like a Roland top digital piano. The CLP585 sounds like a top Clavinova (replaced by CLP685). Yes, the CLP is sampled, but it has some modeling as well. It has full strong/body resonances modeling and some other modeled technologies, but they use sampled sounds from the top Yamaha grand and Bosendorfer grand.

    Hi there! Does anyone know if this one and the F140R share the same sound engine (in means of grand piano sounds)?

    • @reidys
      @reidys  9 років тому

      +Gábor Vékony Hi Gabor, The sound engine is not the same in the F140R. The new LX/HP pianos use SuperNATURAL modelling technology, whereas the F140R uses a SuperNATURAL sampling engine.

      +Reidys Home Of Music Regarding the new model designed by the technician at The Royal Ballet, is this something that is on the settings if I was to buy this instrument as from listening to the demo I like this sound very much? Obviously I would want to try it in person as well.

      +Reidys Home Of Music Thanks for the news ! So is the Roland's "SuperNATURAL modelling technology" a PURE Physical Modelling Technology (so without any sample) ?

    • @reidys
      @reidys  8 років тому

      +jack torrance Hi Jack, the model is not built-in from the factory, however it is available for free via the 'Piano Designer' app which connects wirelessly to the piano using bluetooth. It will be in the free app under the name of 'Hugo' and should be obvious as to the model. I will point at that there are other models available to download in there too. Hope this helps! :)
