I saw the Righteous Brothers live in Memphis TN at the Mid-South Coliseum in 1966. Yes, I'm old. It was a magnificent show. This was back when everyone dressed up to go to concerts, coat and ties for the guys. I also saw The Beatles and The Rolling Stones live in Memphis. Good times.

I just know Bobby because of this song and the Righteous Brothers only from snippets of some of their music being in different movies. Was he that much of a better singer than his brother? And for best of the century, the only person i can think of that can challenge him is that Italian dude maybe Luciano. Serious comment btw. I dont know alot about singers and such.....This guy is great!!! I love him

    • @zanhar7688

@@homie-da-clown7520 … not better, just totally different. Bill Medley is a stunning bass baritone but their harmonies were legend. They were not brothers by birth only by their music and they sang together for more than forty years - with several breaks. Bobby died in 2003 while Bill still performs at age 81. They started in hard rock - check out ‘Justine’ (not the sanitized version) or ‘Little Latin Lupe Lu’, but sang ballads (‘you lost that Lovin’ Feeling’ was the most played song of the 20th century), blues soul and gospel. ‘Soul and Inspiration’. ‘I just Wanna make Love to You’, ‘Ebb Tide’ ‘I’ve had the Time of my Life’ (from Dirty Dancing)

I am 81 and have heard several artist before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the British Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped.
I must have done something right because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren. I served my Queen and Country for 37 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and British Special Forces, with just over 2 years in hospital before being invalided out, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 15. We just celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary with our family, and with the help of our 2 sons and oldest grandson I was able to dance with my wife to this again. And yes, according to the Boss I murdered it, but we're still together since I first asked her out in 1979 which shows I picked the right girl.

Bobby was not a vulgar man - and if he were, his music could not be pure as it is, nor could he have touched a woman's heart. This is not a Tom Jones or a Mick Jagger - this is a gentleman who makes a woman believe Heaven can come through a good man's love.

    Miss,
The highest sign of respect is silence... Don't allow yourself to talk over the music... It's disrespectful and adolescent. Important, the music is. At the end of the music then is your turn to communicate, and not before
