NIkolai Patrushev will retire soon he is nearly 73 year's old have been in powerful position since the time of USSR/1992/. Shoigu asked to retire back 2021 but Putin convince him to stay put .The allegations against his anchorage in ministry of defense changed Putin prospective and Belov was put there to clear house and make the ministry more officiant and clean from corruption.

Most obvious reason for a change like that is that the Russian army had changed in a way that the defense minister does not really have much to do with any strategical or tactical stuff, but has more economical fights, while the advisors, generals and so on are the link to the army. In that case a military guy at the top is not only a waste but contra productive, since he will not only not be able to use his talent, but struggle with all the actual tasks at hand.
Shoigu was a crisis times MoD minister, stern and demanding. I have never seen him smile. Now that procurement is in order is a perfect time for a cabinet shuffle. If you don't promote and shuffle potential doesn't come out. Andrei Belousov seems like a very nice man. Among his first priorities : soldier wages, better access to medical care, better support for families. He is a known technology innovator with a similar economics background as Shoigu.
It's not a purge the shuffle is rather normal. It is the law to have the cabinet resign and then reappointed. Appointments must be approved by Duma aka Congress and Senate. Get your facts straight. Shoigu is now Secretary of the Security Council. The law in Russia only requires every secretary / minister to submit their resignations at the end of every presidential term. Putin does not have to accept those resignations. In this case, Putin has kept everyone in their positions with the exception of Shoigu.
@@Dennis0824 The security council is Putin's inner circle of people he can rely on. Russia is not a democracy so they don't need councils. Saddam Hussein also had a security council of generals and they knew never to give advice to him for fear of getting shot. In time of war Putin will be at the underground command center giving orders to all the generals. Most of the generals will never betray Putin but there are others that might if he does not end this fiasco in Ukraine quickly. A lot of Russian men continue to die in that stupid war which is unpopular with the Russian people. If Putin was serious he would threaten NATO and the U.S.that he will nuke them if they don't back off.

The next highest was the communist party with 13% of the vote. As far as Shoigu is concerned, he is not a military man. He is an engineer by training. He was the minister of defense for the past 12 years and was instrumental in rebuilding the Russian military. Putin is not an autocrat. You fail to appreciate that the Security Council is the most powerful body in the Russian government. Putin is the chairman of the council but all major decisions must be approved by the council. Shoigu is now the number 2 man on the council. Putin will be very different from former presidents. Don't compare the Russian Federation to the old Soviet Union. It is a very different situation. Most obvious reason for a change like that is that the Russian army had changed in a way that the defense minister does not really have much to do with any strategical or tactical stuff, but has more economical fights, while the advisors, generals and so on are the link to the army.
In that case a military guy at the top is not only a waste but contra productive, since he will not only not be able to use his talent, but struggle with all the actual tasks at hand.

Shoigu was a crisis times MoD minister, stern and demanding. I have never seen him smile. Now that procurement is in order is a perfect time for a cabinet shuffle. If you don't promote and shuffle potential doesn't come out. Andrei Belousov seems like a very nice man. Among his first priorities : soldier wages, better access to medical care, better support for families. He is a known technology innovator with a similar economics background as Shoigu.

It's not a purge the shuffle is rather normal. It is the law to have the cabinet resign and then reappointed. Appointments must be approved by Duma aka Congress and Senate. Shoigu was promoted bcs security council is a more important position than ministry. Ministers in Russia were and aee ALL civilians including Shoigu. Shoigu had no military experience when appointed so nothing have changed for that matter. The actual generals are the command center not ministry. An economist in light of rapidly growing MIC is only logical. All of this is rather normal and logical not very big and not sacking and not purge like everyone wish to believe. Sounds like Putin is doing 2 things: 1) replacing the head of defense with a bean counter because he doesn't think he is getting enough for him money for the war 2) Replacing a hardliner with somebody who is more friendly with Putin. Shoigu was not purged. He resigned and retired from service as is required by law.
Get your facts straight. Shoigu is now Secretary of the Security Council. The law in Russia only requires every secretary / minister to submit their resignations at the end of every presidential term. Putin does not have to accept those resignations. In this case, Putin has kept everyone in their positions with the exception of Shoigu.
@@Dennis0824 The security council is Putin's inner circle of people he can rely on. Russia is not a democracy so they don't need councils. Saddam Hussein also had a security council of generals and they knew never to give advice to him for fear of getting shot. In time of war Putin will be at the underground command center giving orders to all the generals. Most of the generals will never betray Putin but there are others that might if he does not end this fiasco in Ukraine quickly. A lot of Russian men continue to die in that stupid war which is unpopular with the Russian people. If Putin was serious he would threaten NATO and the U.S.that he will nuke them if they don't back off.

As far as Shoigu is concerned, he is not a military man. He is an engineer by training. He was the minister of defense for the past 12 years and was instrumental in rebuilding the Russian military. Putin is not an autocrat. You fail to appreciate that the Security Council is the most powerful body in the Russian government. Putin is the chairman of the council but all major decisions must be approved by the council. Shoigu is now the number 2 man on the council.
Putin will be very different from former presidents. Don't compare the Russian Federation to the old Soviet Union. It is a very different situation. He is already in the process of bringing new blood into the Russian administration. He has just begun his next 6 year term and will likely begin grooming a replacement in the next few years. Medbedev was expected to be Putin's replacement; he already served one term as president. However, he is a lawyer by training and he apparently aspires to be a Russian Supreme Court justice.

During these past 2 years NATO completely shattered its own image as a force to be reckoned with, and also as an organization of smart people. Not that I don't enjoy those seals applauding changes in our government in general and military in particular - it's nice to see them cheering for a stronger Russia for a change; but it seems to me that their joy is, as was the case with Prigozhin's "march to Moscow" and a couple of other significant events, severely misplaced, yet they are so far up their own ass that they can't fathom being wrong, even though they've been consistently wrong on everything Russia, again, for these 2 years at least.
