    running a Homebridge server was one of the best decisions I made. Allows me to use Homekit with several devices that aren't homekit enabled. I run it in a docker container on my Synology NAS.

    As someone who is converted his entire house to HomeKit including four HomePods and five HomePod minis and tons of Phillips hue and logitech I strongly recommend Lutron cassetta wireless dimmer switches. No neutral wire is needed and it is one of the best ways to set all of your groups of lights into HomeKit and it saves money on having to buy tons of light bulbs. Easy to install. No electrician needed

    • @cheapme1850
      @cheapme1850 3 роки тому +2

      I looked at Lutron but they were relatively expensive. My house is wired with neutral so that isn’t an issue so I tried Meross switches, bulbs and outlets have been extremely satisfied and was able to do a lot at a much lower price.

    • @allanrscott1130
      @allanrscott1130 3 роки тому

      Yes the Lutron are definitely more expensive but having dealt with several different products I can tell you they are absolutely worth it. And I have neutral wires in my boxes as well. you can just Them off and you do not need to use them. These are definitely for people who really love HomeKit. You will need to get the hub as well but I have put in about 30 different switches around my house and it has been so worth it. They never ever fail

      I agree! Lutron Caseta switches are great. A little pricey, but extremely reliable.

    • @ScotTheGr8
      @ScotTheGr8 3 роки тому

      I will have to switch to Lutron in the future. Using Wemo and they go crazy after a power outage and sometimes after a network outage. But they do have a rock solid dimmer. They also have a three way which is nice but firmware is pretty shaken on it.

      We put the new GEN three blue Tron diva Kaseeta switches throughout the house Jesus what a difference. I think I spent $2600 on the dimmers and switches with the bridge. The three-way configurations were a little bit tricky with a pico or a manual switch, but I rarely adjust on the wall, it was worth every penny and we decided to do the lights at the same time and there were very expensive inserts that went in the ceiling for about five dollars each

    Chamberlain/Liftmaster myQ garage door opener/hub. I can close or open the doors, including as part of my “good night” scene (no more accidental open door all night). While I love the Google nest home hub displays and the wide variety of products that are available, our house has a bunch of Apple TV’s and homepods on nearly every room. It just makes sense to make that transition. Love the cameras being able to be featured on my tv and integrated on the home app so I can check it on all my devices, etc.
      Plus nest products have been disappointing in terms of camera streams. Cuts out constantly

    • @JakeCamo
      @JakeCamo 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the reply! I don’t have any HomePods or Apple TV but I guess I can see the draw if you did. I just don’t like how limiting HomeKit device market is. I also appreciate nests $6 a month for multiple cameras. Obviously apples privacy is far and away better, but I guess once you start putting smart speakers and different cameras in your home, it’s hard to argue how important that is.
      Appreciated your review anyway!

      @@macrumors Starling Home Hub allows Nest devices (Camera, Thermostat, Smoke Detectors & even Yale Lock) to operate with HomeKit. Better to spend $90 to use your existing equipment effortlessly rather than having to reinvest and replace everything. I've been using the Starling Home Hub for a year now with no issues whatsoever with 3 Nest IQ Indoor Cams and 3 smoke detectors.

      Worth checking your Home Wifi coverage - most problems with HomeKit and this are down spotty coverage in my experience!

    Waiting for a Homekit DC-fan but there are absolutely 0. Even the overpriced 700$ Dyson doesn't support Homekit.

    Companies need to make their accessories work with apple or google and have a more open system with all of this. A “smart home” isn’t smart when everyone in the home needs to be on iOS or android to get any benefit of all of this in the first place. Not a huge fan.
