Solar panels are actually surprisingly cheap. Approximately £200 for a top spec panel, a few years ago it was closer to £150. But the firms that install solar will not let you purchase the components yourself. They will not tell you how much they are charging you for the components, and it ends up being double the cost for half the installation. They claim it's all about regulations and getting a certificate.
